Recently a friend of mine lost everything due to a fire at his home.  One of the things we were able to do was open up the pantry and started loading cans, extra clothes, blankets, and a whole big pile of other necessaries and within a couple of hours restocked him for several weeks.  We were able to do this without depleteing our own stores and now have more room to restock items in a more accurate needs base than earlier.  It was nice being able to help a friend out without worrying about a huge bill to purchase a bunch of stuff, we were able to just 'plan' months in advance and help out.

Saturday is donate can & pkg goods to the food bank and the postman collects it on his route. We do this 1-2 times a year in Tucson. I went thru our goodies and pulled May expiration dates to donate...that is one way to have a win-win day.
