2011 will see lithium battery powered Tata Indica EVs on Indian roads
...............................................................................................................................................

The Indica EV will be powered by a MФTIVETM series electric motor developed by TM4 and will run on Lithium Ion Batteries provided by Electrovaya. This will give the Indica a range of almost 200 kilometers on a single charge thus making it a very affordable yet pollution free means of transport in India.

Hearing a lot of discussion on -

Carbon Sequestration or Carbon Capture ?

Because coal is cheaper and plentiful and it's use provides much of our

electricity... Companies are struggling to find an acceptable way to

continue producing it.

Clean Coal ?

I'm not sure that Carbon Sequestration or Carbon Capture is

the best way to proceed.  It takes energy and money to go that route.

The energy costs of carbon capture
...........................................................

http://www.theoildrum.com/node/2733

Creating a nearly pure carbon dioxide stream at a power plant is unfortunately quite energy intensive. The energy costs result from several processes. Firstly the added heat needed to create temperatures of 100 to 140 degrees celsius to regenerate the solvent that captures the CO2 out of the flue gas/CO2 stream.

Secondly the energy to create steam that acts as a stripping gas to remove the CO2 from the solvent. Thirdly the electricity to operate the flue gas fan and pump the CO2 to its destination were it can be compressed. Fourthly the energy costs of compression of the CO2 to make it transportable towards it’s final destination were it can be stored.

...The European Union wants to have 12 large CO2 capture and storage

demonstration projects in place by 2015, requiring an investment of 5 billion euro.
................

I like this better...  and I hope it works  out.

No one likes coal/oil   but we need to be realistic.

There is little Govt. incentive in place to be more free of it.

and we need it to bridge over to Green the next 10 to 15 yrs...

That said, there are a lot of new Energy Companies working at a furious pace.

I invest in:  Electrovaya,    W2 Energy,   EnergyConnect   and    Carbon Sciences.

Another Company is ExxonMobil, which recently bought into Natural Gas

Behind the scenes ExxonMobil is of course looking to move into a more -

Environmentally Friendly Phase.   They are in partnership with several

Companies looking for a way out of the haze.  ( algae Oil )

Pick your favorites now.  You may have noticed when all the stocks are lower,

Electrovaya remains in the green.

Microsoft is giving away it's new Grid Software for free.  How nice.  But we have seen

the havoc reeked by going all in for one... making it much easier to take down.

Let's not repeat that mistake.  The more differing software out there connecting up the grid

the less likey to see it all fall down at once.

    Indica Vista (2008-present) (2nd generation)

The Indica Vista was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi. The Indica Vista is not a facelift of the Indica. It is built on a completely new platform and shares nothing with the existing Indica. This new version is bigger than the previous Indica, it is 3,795 mm (149.4 in) long with a wheelbase of 2,470 mm (97.2 in). The Indica Vista has two new engines, a 1.3 L Quadra Jet common rail direct injection diesel and a 1.2 L Safire MPFI VVT petrol engine. It is also available with the 1.4L TDi(Turbo Diesel). The Quadra Jet (Fiat JTD) is produced in Ranjangaon by the Tata-Fiat joint venture. [12] The Indica Vista, rumoured as the Indica V3 till then, was launched in August 2008 [13]

    Tata Indica EV

    ..........................
    ........................................
    .....................................................

...Electric versions of the Indica (the Indica EV) is scheduled to be launched in India in 2011. [14]

The electric will be based on the Indica Vista. Electrovaya's batteries are expected to give 120 miles (190 km) on a single charge [15] is undergoing testing. The electric version will utilize Lithium ion batteries for higher power. Once charged, the car can travel up to 200 kilometers. The car has started roll out in the end of 2008 [16] and in Spain in 2010-08-15. [17]

The company has indicated that the electric Indica would be launched locally in India in about 2010, without disclosing the price. The vehicle would be launched in Norway in 2009 [18] and also would go on sale in continental Europe and the UK. [19]

The government (Business Secretary Lord Mandelson) has announced a £10 (€11.09) million loan to Tata to support the manufacturing of electric vehicles in the UK. [20]

Tata Motors' UK subsidiary, Tata Motors European Technical Centre, has bought a 50.3% holding in electric vehicle technology firm Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon of Norway for US$1.93 M, which specialises in the development of innovative solutions for electric vehicles, and plans to launch the electric Indica hatchback in Europe in 2010. [21] [22] Electrovaya is partnering with Tata Motors and Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon to manufacture batteries and electric cars using Electrovaya’s Lithium Ion SuperPolymer battery technology. [23]

It is expected to have a 200 km (120 mi) range on a full charge [19] and a top speed of 105 kilometres per hour (65 mph) [20] .With 0 to 60kms in less than 10 seconds. To achieve this, TM4 Electrodynamic systems (a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec) provides an efficient MФTIVETM series electric motor. [24]

The Tata Indica Vista EVX is a finalist in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize, where it has so far achieved an efficiency of 134 MPGe. [25]

    Electric Vehicles
    .................................

Companies are researching the possible use of Electric Vehicles for meeting peak demand.

A parked and plugged-in EV can sell the electricity from the battery during peak loads and charge either during night (at home) or during off-peak.[6]

When plug-in hybrid and/or electric cars are mass-produced[7][8] these mobile energy sinks could be utilized for their energy storage capabilities. Vehicle-to-grid technology can be employed, turning each vehicle with its 20 to 50 kW·h battery pack into a distributed load-balancing device or emergency power source.

This represents 2 to 5 days per vehicle of average household requirements of 10 kW·h per day, assuming annual consumption of 3650 kW·h. This quantity of energy is equivalent to between 40 and 300 miles (64 and 480 km) of range in such vehicles consuming 0.5 to 0.16 kW·h per mile. These figures can be achieved even in home-made electric vehicle conversions. Some electric utilities plan to use old plug-in vehicle batteries (sometimes resulting in a giant battery) to store electricity[9][10]

However, a large disadvantage of using vehicle to grid energy storage is the fact that each storage cycle stresses the battery with one complete charge-discharge cycles. Current lithium ion batteries break down with the number of cycles.

     ANTIQUE OF THE FUTURE

We Need Every New Form Of Alt Energy We Can Get Our Hands On

US military warns oil output may dip causing massive shortages by 2015

..."By 2012, surplus oil production capacity could entirely disappear, and as early as 2015, the shortfall in output could reach nearly 10 million barrels per day," says the report, which has a foreword by a senior commander, General James N Mattis.

It adds: "While it is difficult to predict precisely what economic, political, and strategic effects such a shortfall might produce, it surely would reduce the prospects for growth in both the developing and developed worlds. Such an economic slowdown would exacerbate other unresolved tensions, push fragile and failing states further down the path toward collapse, and perhaps have serious economic impact on both China and India."

    Sponsor: Sen. Robert Menéndez [D-NJ]
    ......................................................................
    SA 1636. Mr. MENENDEZ

the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the

production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers from price gouging, to increase

the energy efficiency of products, buildings and vehicles, to promote research on and

deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options, and to improve the energy

    performance of the Federal Government, and for other purposes;

which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows:

At the end, add the following:
    TITLE VIII--MISCELLANEOUS

    .....................................................................

      Final Private Wires Study 1-12-09
    ...................................................................

    ... a few excerpts

...Electric distribution utilities in the United States operate for the most part as state-

franchised, regulated monopoly service providers within a defined geographic service

territory. They are subject to extensive and pervasive regulation, with a goal of ensuring

that they provide safe and reliable electric service to all customers at a reasonable price.

...Similarly, while every state permits customers to generate their own electricity on-site for

their own use,the ability of self-generating customers to serve a second, contiguous or

non-contiguous site or to sell "excess" electricity directly to other customers is limited,

either because these transactions might subject the seller to extensive regulation as a

utility or because the incumbent regulated public utility has the exclusive right to provide

some or all of the services in question.

    5.1.3.1. Emergence of Non-Utility Generation

Every state permits customers to generate electricity for their own needs. What was

originally less clear was whether the local utility would be required to interconnect a

customer's generator to the utility's grid and, if so, whether and how any excess output

from the generator could be sold.

However, the installation of physical wires raises concerns that may increase the level of

ongoing oversight and regulation that might be necessary, even if full utility regulation

    would not be appropriate.

As one doctoral candidate recently wrote in connection with the

    related topic of microgrids

A micro-grid, by definition, involves multiple customers and essential services for electricity

andheating. When one also considers that customers may not fully understand the

technical aspects or risks associated with energy quality and reliability, it is clear that the

State has an interest in providing guidance, if not legal requirements, for how a micro-grid

is managed and operated . . . [T]here are several issues that deserve consideration. They

    include but are not limited to: rate- setting; billing and collection; dispute resolution;

insurance holdings; credit; and demand management for reliability.99

The issues are no different for a small system consisting of a CHP facility and an

unaffiliated potential customer to be served by private distribution wire.

You see, there is a new idea out there...  different types of fuel for your car.

Never before has a car been made to allow for such versatility.

ExxonMobil and a few people who escaped BP are out there this minute refining

and defining the Algae Oil Business.  There are several other fuels, made from natural gas,

plant fiber, garbage and carbon captured, ripe for the taking.

So be not afraid... grab that VOLT, it's the future.

Some BYD cars seem to copy those of many brands including Lexus,[11] Toyota,[12][13] Honda,[14] Mercedes Benz,[15][16][17] and Porsche.[18] For example, the BYD S8 convertible bears great similarity to the Mercedes CLK from the front, and the Renault Megane CC or third generation Chrysler Sebring convertible from the rear.[19]

The Chery QQ (left) and Daewoo Matiz (right).

The QQ became the center of an industrial copyright and intellectual rights controversy, as General Motors claimed the car was a copy to the Daewoo Matiz (which is marketed outside South Korea as the Chevrolet Spark). GM executives demonstrated the extent of the design duplication, noting for example that the doors of the QQ and those of the Matiz are interchangeable [20] without modification.
GM China Group indicated the two vehicles "shared remarkably identical body structure, exterior design, interior design and key components."[20] MotorAuthority.com[21] and Car and Driver called the QQ a "carbon copy", while the International Herald Tribune, in a 2005 article, referred to it as a clone.[22]
Also, the Chery Tiggo was criticized for resembling a 2nd generation Toyota RAV4.

It is approximately 40 direct-line miles north of Chicago, Illinois

and 42 miles (68 km) south of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On August 23, 2010, it was announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the transfer of Exelon's (ComEd's parent company) license to EnergySolutions of Salt Lake City.

The company will begin the 7-10 year process of dismantling the site, and will eventually haul away pieces of the plant to its property in Utah. After this is complete, Exelon will resume responsibility and transfer the spent fuel into concrete casks from its current pool. [4]
