gnfin, I think that at some point, they will take our supplies. Look at all the wars where there was very little or nothing left such as the civil war. They took and ate anything and everything that moved. If they have the government behind them, numbers and firepower and haven't eaten for days, whats to stop them?

thanks wolfgang.
Has anyone thought about the eatability of ornamental plants. Not a whole lot of people will know but if you do it can make a tremendous differance. The ornamental sweet potato's tubers are actually eatable. They are sweet and white. You can grow them in tubs just as you would regular potatoes. Folks won't know.....cause the goodies are underground....and they reseed from the tubers sooo.....

How will we distinguish the good from the bad--including FEMA, the Guard, Good Cop/Bad Cop, etc. For instance, I'm prior service (Marine Corps) myself. I could easily go into my attic and suit up and be a good guy poser with bad intentions (of course, I'm a girl and not.a bad guy..lol!! Of course, people already do it now--pose as police officials on highways, etc.. Any thoughts?

Thankful4u,
There's probably no easy way to tell. If the outfit they're wearing is authentic, then you have the judge the person by their actions. Is what he/she asking you to do, resonable? Are there other police officers/soldiers/marines also in the area? Do you feel safe in this individuals company? Are you suspicious of this person? If so, ask yourself why and try to determine if you feel uneasy around this person. Guess the best advise I can suggest, is to trust your instincts. |

There are alot of scenarios and it depends how bad it gets. Some might have no problem getting food for themselves but not for their entire family. Black markets where big in the military during vietnam and korea. Like retiredcopper said it could come down to a judgement call. I can see black markets being a big thing, if things got bad.

Retiredcopper and Bill - Thanks so much for your advice. I've read many of your posts and have always found your opinions valuable. I might have a bit of a problem exercising this one, though. The last thing my DIs wrote on my permanent record from PI was that I was gullible . While I'd rather use the word "trusting" at the time, and as a kid, you can imagine how upset I was and the impact it had on my self-esteem. Years later, though, I came to realize that they were actually trying to protect me from any future events I might be stupid enough to get involved with -- lol!! I'll just keep reading this thread again and again and try to develop a sense of wariness. I wonder if there could be a list of questions we could ask people to test the authenticity of their roles, i.e. if they're from the military, where are they stationed, what's their mos, what unit their from, etc. Any thoughts here besides the gut feelings? Thanks again, Guys Thankful4u

I personally would not trust anyone if things got bad. Alot of good people can do bad things in a time of need. If someone came to my door I would always be on alert. I believe most questions could be answered through the door, or through a window. I would make them step back about 20 feet before I opened the door. I would do a head count, if one went missing, that would send a alarm. I would not brandish a firearm infront of someone in uniform. But I guarantee there will be one out of sight at arms length, and I will be thinking cover and concealment. I believe there could be signs, that might shine through one being military bearing. If any uniforms are extremely sloppy, that would send off an alarm for me. That would make me question their mission. Another could be the weapons they carry, are they military issue. Some things they would have access to but most likely not all. Is their uniform miss matched, say one is in camo but with a brown belt.
I believe if they had all their ducks in a row and quacking at the same time. They would not be knocking on my door, they would be looking for bigger fish.
