This is almost surreal. The CDC has now received a list of words that are not to be used in official documents being prepared for next year's budget.

To be fair, "science-based" I can understand because, well, Trump.

OK, folks, we can no longer discussed "science-based" pandemics, viruses etc. LOL

I agree, it is nuts.  CDC has a program called BRACE, which is "building resilience against climate effects," I expect this to be dismantled soon.

I think you're right, Chuck. I'm surprised a program like that hasn't been axed already, to be honest.

I keep telling you:  "Newspeak unbellyfeel engsoch!!!"

Putting it another way.....   The vast majority of people think in words.  Take away the word for a concept and you remove the ability to think of that concept (The theory of general semantics - Count Korzybski  https:////en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Korzybski).

Orwell saw it and used the concept in "1984", whence comes my quote.

The use of such obfuscation in official documentation is indicitave of, not just propaganda, but mass brainwashing.  This adninistration is frankly terrifying!

at what point does Trump officially become a FASCIST ???

at what point do the millions of people who supported him wake up to the horror they have inflicted on the country ???

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden terms at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden terms are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

In some instances, the analysts were given alternative phrases. Instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based,” the suggested phrase is “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes,” the person said. In other cases, no replacement words were immediately offered.

CDC ban: Alarm over reports health agency forbidden from using words like 'fetus,' 'transgender' and 'diversity'

Updated yesterday at 12:42pm

Health leaders in the United States are alarmed about reports that officials at the nation's top public health agency are being told not to use certain words or phrases in official budget documents, including "fetus," ''transgender" and "science-based".

Key points:

  • The full list of words also includes 'diversity,' 'vulnerable,' 'entitlement' and 'evidence-based'
  • The CDC has since said it remains committed to "science and evidence-based" research
  • The US Department of Health said claims of a ban are a "mischaracterisation"

The health community was reacting to a story in The Washington Post which cited an anonymous source who said the prohibition was made at a recent meeting of senior budget officials at the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The seven words and phrases — "diversity," ''entitlement," ''fetus," "transgender," ''vulnerable," ''evidence-based" and "science-based" — were not to be used in documents prepared for the US Government and Congress ahead of the next presidential budget proposal, the paper reported.

A CDC official confirmed they were given "feedback" from higher ranks of the Government at a recent meeting to reconsider certain language in draft budget documents.

But she said she did not know if there was any specific prohibition about using those seven words. She spoke on condition of anonymity, saying she was not authorised to talk about what happened.

The Atlanta-based CDC is in charge of responding to infectious disease outbreaks, like Ebola and Zika, and tracking a wide range of chronic diseases and other health problems.

For decades, the agency has had a mostly sterling reputation as a source of scientific information. That the agency could be censoring certain language sparked alarm and anger from some public health experts and politicians.

Censorship reports spark anger

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said the reported word ban puts the county "further down a dangerous and un-American path of word and though control".

Other critics of the alleged language control compared it to the Trump administration's attempts to kick transgender people out of the military.

From anti-trans bills to discrimination in the military to banning the word "transgender" for the CDC, there is a not-so-subtle effort to erase trans people from public life.

But we aren't going anywhere and we are fighting back. This is our country, too.

Dr Sandro Galea, dean of Boston University's School of Public Health, said these things matter "because the words that we use ultimately describe what we care about and what we think are priorities".

"If you are saying you cannot use words like 'transgender' and 'diversity,' it's a clear statement that you cannot pay attention to these issues."

"Here's a word that's still allowed: 'ridiculous,'" said Rush Holt, chief executive officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, in a statement reacting to the report.

Censoring is suppressing parts of books, plays, news reports, etc., deemed objectionable on moral or other grounds.

E.g. The #CDC has been censored in relation to the use of the words vulnerable, transgender, diversity, fetus, evidence-based, science-based, and entitlement.

In an email to the agency's employees, CDC director Dr Brenda Fitzgerald noted the media report and wrote: "I want to assure you that CDC remains committed to our public health mission as a science and evidence-based institution."

"As part of our commitment to provide for the common defence of the country against health threats, science is and will remain the foundation of our work."

A spokesman at the US Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees CDC, said in a statement that it was a mischaracterisation to say the CDC was banned from using certain words.

However, HHS officials did not clarify or answer any other questions.

Health body's budget in the firing line

Since President Donald Trump took office, a number of federal agencies have moved to downscale data collection on topics like climate change and homeless people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender and to remove information on such topics from some government websites.

The CDC has in the past seemed to signal an interest in less talk and data on certain subjects.

Earlier this year, for example, the HHS proposed deleting a question of sexuality from a federal data-collecting survey. It was restored after an outcry by advocates for the LGBTI community.

The CDC is in a sensitive position. The White House and some Republican politicians have proposed dramatic reductions to the agency's $US7 billion ($9.1 billion) discretionary budget.

One medical leader from an outside agency, who works closely with CDC employees, told the Associated Press a CDC ban on certain words and terms may not be limited to budget documents.

He said two CDC employees told him agency workers have been told not to use the term "health equity" in presentations or public talks.

The term refers to a goal of removing obstacles like poverty and racial discrimination in making sure people have an equal chance to be healthy.

"What is clearly happening is those people are afraid to use those words in any talks or papers. Everybody's afraid to do their job right now," he said on condition of anonymity, because he did not want to jeopardise a working relationship with CDC officials

A CDC spokeswoman said she was not aware of any guidance that prohibits CDC scientists from using "health equity" or any other words or phrases in presentations or talks.

What you missed about the election isn't that Trump won.

It's that Hillary, ***** be upon her, lost.

No real idea why you're whining about Trump winning, however. It's not like either political party is going to work with him so nothing will get done. Isn't that what you want at the end of the day?

Which is the way it should be. The less the political class does, the better off we all are.

When they do stuff, we end up with 0bamacare. That is working wonderfully! My health insurance only went up 125% to nearly $650 a month and I'm on FEHB.

All that said, Hillary was so corrupt, so evil, such a terrible person through and through, that stole an election from the guy would would have handily trounced Trump because she said it was her turn, that more voters said "No" to her than ever should have. In all honesty, it WOULD have been a landslide against him had the moron Democrats run ANYONE other than that evil witch. Seriously, anyone. You could have dragged out a cantaloupe with a D carved into it, with the words "I promise free stuff" crudely written in sharpie across the front and that fruit, (Which is exactly the Democrats platform... well that and howling racist and fascist after overusing one term to obscurity and not having any idea what the other term actually means, respectively) sitting on a chair saying nothing, would have beaten Trump in the election handily.

And yet here you are still blaming Trump when you should be blaming Hillary.

The sad fact that you probably voted for her anyway, knowing what a truly terrible piece of drek she is when you should have written in Bernie, is all the reason I need to be happy with my vote for him.

I mean, the rest of America saw through her b.s. why didn't you?

I (for this one time  only) am glad I don't get to vote in your elections.

Rock and a hard place,
Dumb and dumber,
Crooked and a corkscrew,
The devil and lucifer.                     Not much of a choice.

I would probably have voted for Hilary (hell I would have voted for the Devil himself  rather than Trump.) but I would never have forgiven myself for it.

Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian novel by American writer Ray Bradbury, published in 1953. It is regarded as one of his best works. The novel presents a future American society where books are outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found. Wikipedia

LOL and there was a difference between Trump and 0bama?

Liberals want to kill anyone who dissents. Look at AntiFA. Only when the Right stands up to the Liberals is it a crisis.

Disagree with a conservative, we change the channel, debate you, or eat you alive with facts.

Disagree wit haLiberal: They want you silenced or dead. Whichever. By Any Means Necessary.

I am still very glad to see you back, TG, but I beg to differ.

Obama had more faults than the geology of San Andreas, but he never tried to silence or discredit the press - at least not to any meaningful degree,; all politicians do it a bit.  Trump appears to be trying the same tactics as Goebbels in the early 30s.  That is utterly, completely and diabolically terrifying!

I am no red!  I am the epitome of the floating voter and fence sitter.  I voted the equivalent of Republican the last 2 times over here in Blighty.  But, this turd, this horror, this pimple on the face of America (I would have said arse, but he is embarrasing you internationally, so the analogy must be a visible one) is not just right-wing, he is a fascist!  'And an habitual liar to boot.  He insults other Republicans - like my Hero McCain - and makes the whole party look bad.

All of which pales into insignificance compared to his manipulation of the media.  All the worst deeds are done in the dark.

Obama had the press as the official mouthpiece of the administration. Of course he wouldn't say anything against them. The democrat party has benefitted from false reporting and out and out bias for some time now. I mean, when even the debates are corrupted by the media in an attempt to affect a political outcome, we have a problem and that in and of itself removed credence from your insinuation that attacking the media is a bad thing. The media is on notice now and are justifiably skittish when it comes to their track record of false reporting and bias, and that playing the old game has, in most cases slightly affected their credibility, but in the case of CNN specifically that outlet has the same credibility as the National Enquirer talking about a bat baby being found.

If anyone actually watches CNN as a news source, I pity them.

Trump has had to point out not only slightly incorrect reporting from CNN et al, he has endured attacks the likes of which are unprecedented in our history. And most of it isn't even remotely difficult to discredit. Most of the negative reporting is so blatantly incorrect or trumped up BS they're even getting trolled by the likes of 4Chan retards who send laughably bad stories to media outlets and they run with them without vetting these stories in the slightest. They're exposed as the leftists they are and have dropped any pretense whatsoever as objective news sources.

So whether you want to accept it or not, Trump has done you a favor by calling them out. They can't afford to further discredit themselves.

I watch CNN, which probably horrifys the watchers of Fox.
I watch Fox, which probably horrifys the watchers of CNN.

To only look at one side, means you only see one side.  I am blinkered enough by the lies inherent in politics, on both sides;  to also blnker myself by partisan tastes would be a personal shame to add to that public shame which haunts the entire system.

Looking at both sides, yes Obama lied, used the press and indulged in a host of nefarious activites, as has every other President (and every Prime Minister over here - this is a global problem. It is probably imprinted in our genes.)  but no other President (at least in modern times, I am no American historian) has crossed that specific line where he discredits the press to support his own deceptions.
