This summer season I bought clothes for my children for next summer too, and this winter I will buy for next winter sizes too - shoes are harder, we normally buy width and length fitted shoes as they grow - will get trainers and wellies and thongs for possible sizes next year instead of shoes.
I've bought clothes for myself too to replace ones that might get worn out - that was difficult |

Been hitting garage sales and rummage sales...very cheap and you can find alot. If you never use them just donate them.

I always buy 1-2 years ahead, taking advantage of markdown racks and the end of season sales in stores. None of my kids ever got chunky or were too thin, the regular sizes always fit. Another place I get used clothing is yard sales, Goodwill and other thrift stores. Our Goodwill has clothing for .75, jacket and jeans are 1.50, any time I find Tommy, Calvin or Lei, etc. at the proper sizes I pick them up (I have even bought womens jeans for 1.50 and they have brought $20 on Ebay, I don't have much time for that nowadays). Yard sales are another place I buy used clothing, I always have a limit at yard sales, I will not pay more than $1 for name brand jeans or nice church dresses in excellent condition, usually .50 for shirts, I even find alot of brand new things from stores with tags still on them at Goodwill and yard sales for these prices too. Don't automatically leave any stores out, last week I was in Dollar Tree and found 3 packs of girls and womens socks for 1.00, these were Circo brand which originally came from Target, someone else had told me they found 3 packs of Keds socks (which is why I went there to begin with, but those were all gone). Have an open mind when shopping! Also don't turn down anyones offers of hand me downs, if you turn them down once, they might not ask you next time if you want something. Last week my boss asked me if I wanted some mens white t-shirts 3X (they were extras from our job and we were getting rid of them) so of course I took them (20 brand new t-shirts, that I had no clue what I was going to do with them) but when I got home DH said he would use some and DD and I are going to tye dye some with KoolAid to use for working in the yard and sleep shirts. So me, I don't turn anything down, if I can't use it I can usually find someone who can. Also look in store markdown bins, I frequently find new underwear and socks for .25-.50 each where customers have opened packages to look at sizes, then the store can't sell them opened so they mark them down, I always buy sizes that fit and usually the next 2 sizes up, they have never skipped a size in underwear, they will always have some that fits. This actually saves alot of money and time! When school started this year we did go out and buy 3-4 new outfits on sale, but I did not have to purchase socks or underwear or most of the other clothing that was needed, I had also purchased a new coat last spring for $6 a markdown from $59 for this school year, same with gloves and hats for .50 last spring also.
