DJ, global temperature has an strong upward trend. In 2024 we very likely will be above 2c+ the 1750 "pre-industrial baseline"...with temperature rise going exponential... Since we failed to deal with CoViD in time in an effective way also CoViD itself and all complications are "out of control"...The "political system" in most of the west is at breaking point... Fiat-currencies need a realistic base. For the EU there may be some hope in EurAsian integration...the US ($) is that much in debt-and out of real production capacity- also in the wrong geo-location- the US may fall back on food production/export... However with climate collapse bringing "extreme" weather as a new "normal" food production and logistics will become a global problem. CoViD and lots of other diseases will kill many "hosts" both human and other... ---- For most of "the west" a decrease of 10% of their GDP/economy still would see a 1990's like economy...A 50% decrease may push us back 90 years to the 1930's...Economic inequality is a constant in human history...also a motor for both "changes" and social unrest... However the "west" dealing with a decrease of 90%+ of their GDP/economy would put that "west" on a "third world" level...In the same position the west kept a lot of the rest during western domination...Stealing resources-including the healthy population as slaves as "western civilization".... --- History does NOT repeat itself...but there are patterns...the human factor does not change that much... We did see human population explode during a "good climatic period"...that "good climate" is gone...Cheap energy is gone...Public health is "defunded"...(to keep the rich rich...) So what will it bring ? -In case of all out nuclear war the story is short...exit humans... -Climate collapse may take longer...Could be worse... DJ-We have to prepare for a "very major global crisis"... Reducing meat consumption, limiting (air) travel to make the best of energy may be the "easy choices"...We even fail to go that way... Population reduction-limiting births-would be wise...However "family planning" did see crazy religions in their way...Also "nationalism" is not helping...If we are unable to escape "breeding" for religious are nationalistic reasons ...forget it ! Pandemics, climate collapse and wars can kill billions of humans in "less friendly ways"...it is a matter of choice... DJ-Here in NL there has been long term discussions on self determination...Euthenasia has been accepted in many countries for those without perspective for health reasons...Here in NL "finished lives" is another point of discussion...People -often 90y/o+- "would love to end it"...waiting for death to arive... DJ-Life has to have a certain quality..."Long CoViD" is ruining many lives...People have a basic right to get the best of help...decide on their own lives... It was the government job to "protect us all"...but "politics failed"....So we now face much harder choices... One could claim collapse of "an old world" did happen several times in history. Europeans coming to the America's ended that world for most of the people living there...Around 90-95% of the pre-Columbus population died from European diseases, wars, slavery...The fall of the West Roman Empire ended "a world"...that had been around for around 1,000 years... In 1776 (American revolution), 1789 (French revolution) the "old order" did get a shock...it did take to 1813 to "restore" some of that "old order"... Driving a lot of changes is food shortages, poverty, economic imbalance "let them eat cake"-disconnect between an elite and most of the public... - Can a 0,1% "elite" push for "a world of their own" by "getting rid" of the 99,9% "human burden"? DJ-NO ! I do not believe in that kind of thinking...One can claim an "elite" is responsible for a lot of climate/pandemic and war problems...even making money out of it. However -also in history- most of that elite ends up being replaced by another elite... What may be different for the present collapse is the seize of destruction...We are destroying our planet beyond repair... -Pandemics may NOT NEED human hosts...lots of non-human hosts for virusses, bacteria etc. In the past major pandemics were "self limiting". Flu types resulted in immunity, the "plague" was in many ways regional...spreading from one region to another-giving regions to recover.. -Wars also were "limited" and "regional"...a lot of the fighting was on "frontlines" with limited bombing/missiles...A modern war has no safe area's... -Climate change is now global, energy disbalance that major there are "no easy ways out"... -Over 8 billion people on this planet is making humans very vulnerable even for minor changes -An economy based on "future profits/debts" has "its limits"...and we may have reached those limits. The ones paying the bills for "the rich" are no longer willing to pay...BRICS-extra is a better alternative for most (even in the west...) DJ-In history a "collapse" did bring a "new world"...The Ottoman Empire, Russian Empire ended in 1917-1923 to give way to new countries...At present a major collapse may bring a "new world" with only -at best- limited room for humans... |

- DJ...some "leaders" think ALL infectious diseases are "flu-like"...reality...most are NOT ! A lot of infectious disease bring long time chronic disease...destroying peoples lives...
