"Rick,

------
I'm trying to connect the dots like everyone else. Lets do
some sketching,

- The sailor is from India which has never reported H5, yet has reported
mass bird death "poisonings" recently (no explantion why), Hmmm....

- The sailor was a cook.

- The cook, if docked since Jan 17, had acccess to fresh chicken.

- The cook died in three-days. Consistent with H5 pathology.

- A few months ago Nepal/India had scores of young children die from
"Japenese Encephalitis". The disease seemed to strike young kids,
and deaths were rapid, sypmtomology was consistant with H5,
    Hmmm..

The million-dollar question, what is the vector in
Lithuania, H2H, or a non-H2H source? That answer
will as the CDC said, "buy us some time".

Do yourself a favour put a few N-95's aside for insurance, while you still
can. My 2-cents.

Angel,

Thanks for pointing out the date Jan 17. It connects one of the dots.
The cook's age is significant as well.

It was a Liberian flagged ship.  Ship Captain was also Indian.  He did not given permission for an autopsy.  On the ship was 30 crew...29 Indian and 1 Ukrainian.  A team to disinfect the ship is being sent.

They are saying he did not die of bird flu.  He had chest and arm pain (possible heart attack) and died in an ambulance.

As H5N1 has moved into areas with slightly better reporting, and as public & media awareness has risen sharply since the events in Turkey, I think it could be wise to start treating these news items a little differently now? Because at this rate we are going to start seeing a large number of unrelated human deaths being reported as possible bird flue, we will be swamped with information, and as many of them will turn out to be false it could actually increase complacency - 'boy who cried wolf' stuff?

Angel,

Who is saying he died of a heart attack ?

And if that is the case how can the Lithuanian health ministry have possibly mistaken it for BF ?

I feel sorry for health ministry spokesman, they are damned if they do and damned if they dont. We want them to treat all possible bird flu cases as if they may well be H5N1, we get mad if they coverup publically, but we cannot have our cake and eat it. Vigilance is clearly increased, this is a good sign, but it will lead to a lot more reports that turn out to be false.

In the absense of better data on symptoms, autopsy, testing etc, our own optimism (or lack of) is going to be at least as big a factor in what we decide to believe is the reality of these situations, false alarm or coverup?

Cold hearted orb that rules the night,

Removes the colours from our sight,

Red is gray and yellow white,

But we decide which is right.

And which is an illusion?
