Hello everybody.  I've been gone for the last few days and I'm glad to see that this place is still in one piece.  I didn’t want to publicize that I wouldn’t be available here on the forum, for obvious reasons.

I will be getting caught up on posts and emails over the next few hours.

Anyone here have anything exciting happen to them over the weekend?  Any new preps?

Smile

We've been prepping for several months now.  We're really in pretty good shape.  Can probably get by at least a year. Wanted to get the well working again, and our next project will be a wood stove.  Until I found this place, I felt pretty alone in our preparations.  Nobody around here even discusses the issue.  Really happy to have found a place where I can get new ideas and keep up to date, and really just knowing there are other people out there as concerned as we are.

Hi Cruiser, glad you had fun.

Hi WR, each year, Lake Havasu hosts the annual world championship watercraft tournament.  It's an actual sport believe it or not.   Anyway, a  friend of mine is the defending world champ so each year we launch several crafts from Harrahs casino in Laughlin, Nevada and we take the Colorado River to Lake Havasu to watch it.  Most people just drive to this event, but I make everybody take the river.  Full adventure tour.

 Do not read before bed......

I don't think we can fathom the stuff that is out there.

Some friends from Brazil.....

Excerpt-

The Federal Government decided to expand the genome project at the national level and launched the Brazilian Genome Project (Dec. 2000)
-Part of the National Program of Biotechnology and Genetic Resources (R$250 m)
-Comprises a network of 25 sequencing laboratories
-Objective: to sequence the genome of

Chomobacterium violaceum
-abundant in the waters of the Amazon Region
-opportunistic human pathogen (infection is fatal)
-produces violacein of trypanocidal and antibiotic activity***
-Produces a polyester similar to propylene and polyethylene***
............................................
Could someone explain that?
 How weird is this?
.........................................
Of the biological point of view, the importance of the microorganism is related its capacity to produce polymers with characteristic of polypropylene (plastic), with a great advantage: to be biodeagradável. “The knowledge of the genoma of the bacterium will be able to assist the production of this type of plastic in bigger amount for applications in medical and odontológicas próteses”, exemplifica the Tânia teacher. Already in the biotechnological area, studies come showing that the bacterium is capable to hold back metals heavy.

So.... this doesn't sound so odd now does it?

My family and I are afflicted by the insidious disease that people call Morgellons. We have suffered from this disease for a long time as it has managed to go by undetected and misdiagnosed by many doctors. We are being refused treatment of any kind even as I write this and our health continues to deteriorate at a rapid speed.

This fiber disease has turned my life into a surreal nightmare that defies rational thought. It is by far the most bizarre and hideous disease that I have ever even heard of not alone had to endure. My life could very easily be made into a Hollywood movie and someday may well be, but for now I will continue to look for help in getting treatment, work for advancement in research, and help with public awareness.

If you’re not scared yet then you very well should be as this is an ambiguous and evasive killer that no one yet has been able to determine its means of transmission. The fiber disease is spreading among our population and your doctor cannot even detect it. Most have never even heard of it and some deny its very existence.

If any of you here can help to guide this desperate Mother to alleviate this condition I would be eternally grateful. I am searching for answers any where I can and am asking for your help.

Peace,
Sabrina

Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, cause of paracoccidioidomycosis, aka South American Blastomycosis or Brazilian Blastomycosis

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a chronic, granulomatous, and progressive disease that mainly attacks the lungs, mucosa of the mouth and nose, and neighboring teguments, with frequent spread to the lymph nodes, adrenal glands, and other viscera. In fact it seems as though there is not anywhere in your body that is safe from the fungi once it gains entry either through the lungs or through traumatic implantation. Thus it's good to learn more about the disease and the fungus that causes it.

Leishmania

are the etiological agents of a variety of disease manifestations, collectively termed as leishmaniasis. Visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania (L.) donovani and Leishmania (L.) chagasi is a serious health problem in many tropical and subtropical countries [1-3]. During the digenetic life cycles of Leishmania, it alternates between gut of sand fly vector as an extra cellular promastigote and in the acidic phagolysosome of macrophage as an intracellular amastigote. However, the most intriguing question is the capacity of Leishmania to withstand the hydrolytic conditions of the macrophages, the mechanism of which is still unclear.
Thus, identifying the genes expressed specifically in the amastigote stage of the parasites and elucidating their biological function is very important as it would provide new insights into the role of these gene products in the intracellular life cycle of the parasites.

Further, this will also help in designing specific drugs and identifying vaccine candidates.

Schistosoma japonicum
(Katsurada, 1904)

Schistosoma japonicum is an important parasite and one of the major infectious agents of schistosomiasis. This parasite has a very wide host range, infecting at least 31 species of wild mammals, including 9 carnivores, 16 rodents, one primate, two insectivores and three artiodactyls and therefore it can be considered a true zoonosis.

Excerpt-

Schistosomiasis

is an infection of high prevalence and morbidity. Three species of schistosomes cause human disease .These differ in geographic distribution

(S. JAPONICUM, S. MANSONI, S. HAEMATOBIUM). Species also differ in location within the venous system but in all species, disease is produced primarily by acute and chronic inflammatory responses to schistosome eggs.

Fibro-obstructive disease in the liver and portal hypertension are major responses to S. mansoni infections although there may be little or no overt disease with chronic infection.

Transmission cycle is complex with a snail intermediate host. Swimmer's itch, which is caused by Schistosoma mansoni, can also be caused by other species of Schistosomes from birds or other animals.

Hi Everyone,

No new preps but we did start a Parasailing Business on the island last week. Just training crew for now but what a blast! We spent the past few days flying around some army buddies and family for fun and training.
