A week-long conference on caring for pets during natural disasters and pandemics is held at the University of Guelph from Thursday April 26 to Tuesday May 1.

The symposium called Caring During Crisis was sparked by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Avian flu danger, and the concern that communities don't have a plan to help animals when a disaster occurs.

The event will discuss how animal welfare may be addressed during crisis situations, said a news release. It will also cover how animals and people are affected during natural disasters and pandemics.

Events are held at Rozanski Hall at the university. To register and for information, visit www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/conference/caringduringcrisis.
