How to not be so scared by the more radical theories on this site...... If you just come to this site first thing and read the news with comentary you would notice more of an alarmist slant. You can't come to the site first and get all the news and opinions without prejiduice. To not get taken so aback when you visit here what I suggest one should do is... 1. Go to the various news links first on the web that you have developed and trust. Read the articles that you prefer in your own little unbiased enviornment. Here are some links. Everybody should develope their own. http://thepoultrysite.com/LatestNews/Default.asp?AREA=Latest News&Display=6187 http://sars.com.sg/birdflu/bfindex.php http://www.promedmail.org/pls/promed/f?p=2400:1000 So scan the other headline news sources before comming to the forum. 2.Now come to the Forum. Once logged into this forum immediately check what news has been posted here by other members for something that you may have missed or something late breaking from one of our team of news collectors. Now you are more informed and mentally prepared to take in and discuss what is going on here in the forum. Not so much a skeptic cause you have found your own info from your own sources, on your own terms from other balanced sources you trust. Then I think you will see the site is not so alarmist, just reacting from the other offically posted news on other searches. Now you can form your own opinions and seperate what you believe is fact from fiction. So if you come here first before scanning the other searches you will always get the full dose from those that have been scanning the other news first. Don't be so defensive and shocked by the comments on that news. I joined this forum first of all to make sure I wasn't missing something in the news gathering process. Plus to develope inside sources that the governments can't always control. Second to meld the alarmist with the pacifist to achieve balance. Honestly if you think this site has tended to become over alarmist in the past few weeks it's not us.... Just look at the headlines. Edited by Corn |

Good advice corn, It is better to be prepared than scared. We all have our own theories (which can sometimes change from day to day) on what the current situation is and what the near future is going to hold. The thing I really like about this forum is that we can discuss our theories with people who may not agree with our specific position, but are interested in this unfolding event. Of late, I have been comming here to relieve my alarmist fears. When I do my normal searches (we probably all have our pet ones) and I see country after country announcing BF it has made me well a little jumpy. I come here and see the different opinions it keeps me from F R E A K I N G O U T. PS: I wonder if people would post how they do thier news searches. Could be very helpful for new members also. |

I not only type in H5N1 on google, I also do avian flu, bird flu, Pro Med, and Recombionics, CDC, and WHO, along with trying to keep an eye on the papers here in the state of NV. I spend a lot of time searching and then come here to either post what I have found or as Darlman says to keep from freaking out! Sometimes I fail in the latter! Meewee |

I use newsnow and this forum. I too came here wanting to see different takes and information not found in mainstream media. Good point on getting new people to check out news sources first then come on board. The news of this thing is running like wildfire now. It seems every day there is at least one new country added to the list. |

Great Advise for Newbies Corn, I also like Google because it searches 4500 news sources (even though alot of them are just republishing the original story). Your can customize the News Tab and set up about 20 search terms. For peer-reviewed medical articles that are usually not filled with med-speak, see PubMed at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed Prep-On ! |
