Besides the FCC and Mark Lloyd... Now...we have Czar Cass Sustein to worry about.
Article Below.
comments:
Bye, bye John, it's been nice knowing you. If Cass Sunstein gets his way, I suspect this column along with many others will be infiltrated or censored for the good of us all. I wonder when the "Cass Sunstein Re-Education Camps" start opening. Until people start thinking "correctly", many of his ideas won't get very far. What is truly frightening is that this guy could very well be in line for a position on the Supreme Court. Be very very afraid. January 18, 2010 at 10:45 am

That thought alone is going to freak out other members here when they read it. My commenting on that comment is going to make things even worse. If I deny this is true it might trigger more paranoia. If I agree with it I'll only add to those thoughts. Maybe I shouldn't have commented on it at all? No that would raise suspicion. Have you ever tried to reason with someone that's paranoid? Now I'm stuck in a conundrum! |

Amazing...
For 27 years the guy has been surrounded by 18 to 23 year old "Yes Men" arguing with him a little and then coming right around to his
way of thinking for that A Grade. Not exactly the real world.
Does this fellow think, all the world's a classroom?
And thus Free Speech is a problem?
Cass Sunstein
.............................. For 27 years, Sunstein taught at the University of Chicago Law School, [1] where he continues to teach as the Harry Kalven Visiting Professor. In the fall of 2008 he joined the faculty of Harvard Law School and began serving as the director of its
Program on Risk Regulation:[2] The Program on Risk Regulation
will focus on how law and policy deal with the central hazards of the 21st century.
Anticipated areas of study include terrorism,
climate change,
occupational safety,
infectious diseases,
natural disasters, and
other low-probability, high-consequence events. Sunstein plans to rely on significant student involvement in the work of this new program.[2]
On January 7, 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that Professor
Sunstein will be named to head the
White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).[3] That news generated controversy among progressive legal scholars[4] and environmentalists.[5] In his research on risk regulation,
Professor Sunstein is known for
developing, together with Timur Kuran, the concept of availability cascades, wherein popular discussion of an idea is self-feeding and causes individuals to overweight its importance. Professor Sunstein's books include After the Rights Revolution (1990),
The Partial Constitution (1993), Democracy and the Problem of Free Speech (1995) wikipedia

Cass Sunstein's despicable ideas on regulating the internetFull Article & Comments
-------------------------------------------------
"Now comes a more insidious form of thought control a la 1984, courtesy of long-time friend and probable new regulatory czar Cass
cont.
-------------------------------------------------- Sustein's New Book: "On Rumors: How Falsehoods Spread, Why We Believe Them, What Can Be Done,"
"Sunstein's book is a blueprint for online censorship as he wants to hold blogs and web hosting services accountable for the remarks of commenters on websites while altering libel laws to make it easier to sue for spreading "rumors."
Smith notes that bloggers and others would be forced to remove such criticism unless they could be "proven". The litigation expense would be daunting; the time necessary to defend a posting (or an article) would work to the benefit of the public figure being criticized since the delay would probably allow the figure to win an election before the truth "won out". The mere threat of retaliatory actions would be enough to dissuade many commentators from daring to issue a word of criticism or skepticism." cont.
---------------------------------
"We should note that another step is being taken by Congress that might chill free speech on the internet. Representative Linda Sanchez from California is behind the Megan Meier Cyber Bullying Prevention Act, an effort to impose regulations on the internet. Eugene Volokh, the brilliant law professor who founded Volokh Conspiracy (one of the leading, and most stimulating, blogs) noted the overly broad language of the bill. and how it can be used by a politician to stifle criticism."
cont.
---------------------------------
"He questions the motives of the lawmakers supporting such a constitutionally vague bill which would make just about any criticism made by blogs subject to fines or imprisonment." cont.
-------------------------------------------------- Who then are the Thought / Speech Police? The Party in Power? This is getting scary........
Again...this is coming from who exactly? Progressives? Please do your research on this Leftist ideology.
Incrementally, it seems they want to take away the freedom of speech. Maybe they...Progressives as they call themselves now, feel if it is done gradually, inch by inch , the people will be too stupid to notice. All for our own good of course.
First Amendment anyone? Where is the ACLU, where are the Democrats/Republicans of old that would be up in arms if either party even hinted of this.
The Media, MSM, Google and Wikipedia have all definitely been tainted over the years with a definite slant to the left. Wikipedia is subject to revisionist history depending on who is doing the editing that day.
Let's see....what to think? what to feel? what to eat and drink? free speech?
Again...of course this is All for our own good.
Please read up on Czar Mark Lloyd and his vision for FCC. |

"It appears that Sunstein and Lloyd are two peas in a pod. Both of these men believe that commercial broadcasting companies should fund strictly public broadcasting. He also proposes more “democratic” means of control like “compulsory public-affairs programming, right of reply, content review by nonpartisan experts or guidelines to encourage attention to public issues and diversity of view.” Believe it or not, that’s not the worst to come out of Sunstein’s mouth or from his pen lately. Sunstein actually believes that Obama and those working as part of his administration should interpret federal laws, not the federal courts.

John, I think the actual Onion article was titled "Is the Government Spying on Paranoid Schizophrenics Enough?" Regardless, it is amusing to see that the government is so worried about "fringe" groups enough to infiltrate and manipulate them. In fact, doesn't this make the government one of those conspiracy types themselves?
