Triclosan Ban Pushed by Rep. Markey.......................................................................................................................... Date Published: Friday, April 9th, 2010 A prominent lawmaker is calling for a ban on triclosan, a chemical used in hand sanitizers,
soaps and other household products. In studies, triclosan has been shown to cause
hormonal disruptions in animals, and other research has indicated that the chemical might
help to create bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

Another Vaccine :/
........................................
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause
both acute and chronic disease. The virus is transmitted through contact with the blood or other body fluids of an infected person -- not through casual contact. Hepatitis B virus can cause an acute
illness with symptoms that last several weeks, including yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. People can take several months to a year
to recover from the symptoms. Hepatitis B virus infection can also cause a chronic liver infection that can later develop into cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer. Hepatitis B virus infection is an important occupational hazard for health workers. Fortunately, however, hepatitis B is preventable with a safe and effective vaccine. AIL_ID:140

Summary of CDC Recommendations on Hepatitis B Vaccinations
...............................................................................................
...One to 2 months after completion of the 3-dose vaccination series, HCWs who have contact with patients or blood and are at ongoing risk for injuries with sharp instruments or needlesticks should be tested for antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs).
Persons who do not respond to the primary vaccine series should complete a second three-dose vaccine series or be evaluated to determine if they are HBsAg-positive. Revaccinated persons should be retested at the completion of the second vaccine series. Persons who prove to be HBsAg-positive should be counseled accordingly

Here is a study... ( LOOK what it's in... see list below )
Study of Rats and Mice ............................................. ORGANIDIN ( Guaifenesin, expectorant ) March 1990
(CAS NO. 5634-39-9)
IN F344/N RATS AND B6C3F1 MICE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
Public Health Service National Institutes of Health Excerpts- ABSTRACT Toxicology and carcinogenesis studies of iodinated glycerol (Organidin@a, complex mixture prepared
by the reaction of iodine with glycerol and found to contain 33% 3-iodo-1,2-propanediol as the major component) were conducted because of human exposure to iodinated glycerol as an expectorant and its possible relationship to the formation of alkyl iodides, e.g., methyl iodide, a suspected animal carcinogen. Sixteen-Day and Thirteen- Week Studies: Sixteen-day studies were conducted by giving iodinated glycerol at doses up to 1,000 mg/kg to rats and up to 500 mg/kg to mice. All female rats and 415 male rats in the highest dose group died before the end of the studies; there were no dose-related effects on body weights of male or female rats or male mice at the end of the studies. The forestomach of 2/5 female mice that received 500 mg/kg was thickened and granular. Thirteen-week studies were conducted by administering iodinated glycerol at doses up to 500 mg/kg to rats and mice. During these studies, 3/10 female rats and 1/10 female mice that received 500 mg/kg died. Final mean body weights of rats and mice that received 500 mg/kg were 4% lower than those of vehicle controls for males and 6%-7% lower for females. Kidney tubular cell lesions, including cortical necrosis, regeneration, and calcification, were observed at increased incidences in the highest dose group of female rats. Lymphoid hyperplasia of the stomach was observed in dosed male and female rats. Kidney tubular cell regeneration was also observed in dosed female mice. Inflammation or abscesses of mild-to-moderate severity and hyperplasia, acanthosis, and/or hyperkeratosis of mild-to-moderate severity were observed in the forestomach of the highest dosed group of female mice. Conclusions: Under the conditions of these 2-year gavage studies, there was some evidence of carcinogenic
activity* for male F344/N rats administered iodinated glycerol, as indicated by increased incidences of mononuclear cell leukemia and follicular cell carcinomas of the thyroid gland. Adenomas of the nasal cavity in two high dose male rats may have been related to the administration of iodinated glycerol. There was no evidence of carcinogenic activity for female F344/N rats administered 62 or 125 mg/kg iodinated glycerol by gavage for 103 weeks. There was no evidence of carcinogenic activity for male B6C3F1 mice administered 125 or 250 mg/kg iodinated glycerol by gavage for 103 weeks. There was some evidence of carcinogenic activity for female B6C3F1 mice administered iodinated glycerol, as indicated by increased incidences of adenomas of the anterior pituitary gland and neoplasms of the harderian gland. Your comments are wanted... There is a lot of screening here. Most of us take it for granted.... if we are insured. A lot of this is common place in NY. I imagine a lot of it is not mandated for families
with medicaid? There are new screening areas... some are in lifestyle areas. So I feel
sceptical about this type of screening... some families use food for reward or as a part of
entertainment... movies, snacks... some people eat due to depression, some out of habit.
Geting a handle on overeating seems a difficult task. Bad food is everywhere. When i
was a kid a snack at school was milk or an apple.
Some screening seems like a cattle call... chances are you don't have it but get screened
because ...well just in case. Some if it is very good. This is why opinions are needed.

...B. Recommendations of the Advisory Committee On Immunization Practices (Advisory Committee) That Have Been Adopted by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Recommendations of the Advisory Committee appear in four immunization schedules
that follow: a schedule for children age 0 to 6 years,
a schedule for children age 7 to 18 years,
a “catch-up” schedule for children, and a schedule for adults. Immunization schedules are issued every year, and the schedules that appear here are the 2010 schedules.
The schedules contain graphics that provide information about the recommended age for vaccination, number of doses needed, interval between the doses, and (for adults) recommendations associated with particular health conditions. In addition to the graphics, the schedules contain detailed footnotes that provide further information on each immunization in the schedule. Comprehensive Guidelines Supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for Infants, Children, and Adolescents
Comprehensive guidelines for infants, children, and adolescents supported by HRSA appear in two charts that follow: the Periodicity Schedule of the Bright Futures Recommendations for Pediatric Preventive Health Care, and the Uniform Panel of the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children. Anyone out there use baking soda as their primary ingredient for teeth and tongue brushing in place of toothpaste? In general I have a pretty bad problem with plaque, even with using an electric toothbrush, anti-plaque toothpaste, and flossing. When I went to have my teeth cleaned about four months ago, the dental hygienist told me she had just got back from a dental convention, and found out some good information about the reason plaque forms on ones teeth. She was told that the reason plaque forms on the teeth is from a strep-type infection that is found on the back of the tongue, and usually causes a white coating of the tongue, and by using baking soda will cause a change in the PH in the mouth preventing the strep-type infection from causing plaque. So naturally I decided to give it a try, and to my surprise my plaque problem is all but gone, along with the white tongue. After brushing my tongue with the baking soda I could feel what ever was growing behind my tongue, and I was able to spit up this yellowish ball. When I talk to older people they say that baking soda was all they ever used growing up, and given the fact that it's usually priced under a dollar and doesn't contain fluoride it works for me. I know it can be abrasive, so I use a soft toothbrush and brush lightly, but I really hit the back of my tongue because I think changing the PH must be the key.
I wonder if a PH imbalance might also have something to do with coronary artery disease and plaque build up? |

WHAT is a Bed Bug?
....................................... ........................................................ ...small, elusive, parasitic insects of the family Cimicidae. The term usually refers to species
that feed preferentially on human blood; all insects in this family live by feeding exclusively
on the blood of warm-blooded animals.[1][2] The name 'bed bug' is derived from the
insect's preferred habitat of infesting houses and especially beds or other common areas
where people may sleep. Bedbugs, though not strictly nocturnal, are mainly active at night
and are capable of feeding unnoticed on their hosts.
Bedbugs have been known by a variety of names including wall louse, mahogany flat,
crimson rambler, heavy dragoon, chinche and redcoat.[3]
Largely eradicated as pests in the developed world (largely through the use of DDT) in the
early 1940s, bedbugs have been resurgent since about 1995.[4]

Lead Contamination in Cocoa and Cocoa Products: Isotopic Evidence of Global Contamination
........................................................................................................................................................... In this article we present lead concentrations and isotopic compositions from analyses of cocoa beans, their shells, and soils from six Nigerian cocoa farms, and analyses of manufactured cocoa and chocolate products. The average lead concentration of cocoa beans was ≤ 0.5 ng/g, which is one of the lowest reported values for a natural food. In contrast, lead concentrations of manufactured cocoa and chocolate products were as high as 230 and 70 ng/g, respectively, which are consistent with market-basket surveys that have repeatedly listed lead concentrations in chocolate products among the highest reported for all foods. One source of contamination of the finished products is tentatively attributed to atmospheric emissions of leaded gasoline, which is still being used in Nigeria.
Because of the high capacity of cocoa bean shells to adsorb lead, contamination from leaded gasoline emissions may occur during the fermentation and sun-drying of unshelled beans at cocoa farms.

Shouldn't the same standards and cautions be applied
to warning labels
to alert women
about diseases caused by "the pill" and all other forms of harmful hormonal contraception?
........................
Risks and contraindications
...................................................
Combined oral contraceptives may influence coagulation, increasing the risk of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, stroke and myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Combined oral contraceptives are generally accepted to be contraindicated in women with pre-existing cardiovascular disease, in women who have a familial tendency to form blood clots (such as familial factor V Leiden), women with severe obesity and/or hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol level), and in smokers over age 40.
COC are also contraindicated for women with liver tumors, hepatic adenoma or severe cirrhosis of the liver, and for those with known or suspected breast cancer. (WHO category 4).
COC confer a risk of first ischemic stroke,[3] and current use significantly increases the risk of cardio-vascular disease among those at high risk.[4] These pills also lead to increased deep vein thrombosis.
The risk of thromboembolism varies with different preparations; With second-generation pills (with an estrogen content less than 50μg), the risk of thromboembolism is small with an incidence of approximately 15 per 100,000 users per year, compared with 5 per 100,000 users per year among non-pregnant individuals not taking the pill, and 60 per 100,000 pregnancies.[76]
In individuals using preparations containing third-generation progestogens (desogestrel or gestodene), the incidence of thromboembolism is approximately 25 per 100,000 users per year.[76] Also, the risk is greatest in subgroups with additional factors, such as smoking (which increases risk substantially) and long-continued use of the pill, especially in women over 35 years of age.[76]
COC decrease the risk of ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer,[23] and colorectal cancer.[77][1]
Monograph 91 of The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) stated in 2005 that COC increase the risk of cancers of the breast (among current and recent users),[1] cervix and liver (among populations at low risk of hepatitis B virus infection).[1][78] Research into the relationship between breast cancer risk and hormonal contraception is complex and seemingly contradictory.[79]
The large 1996 collaborative reanalysis of individual data on over 150,000 women in 54 studies of breast cancer found that: "The results provide strong evidence for two main conclusions. First, while women are taking combined oral contraceptives and in the 10 years after stopping there is a small increase in the relative risk of having breast cancer diagnosed. Second, there is no significant excess risk of having breast cancer diagnosed 10 or more years after stopping use. The cancers diagnosed in women who had used combined oral contraceptives were less advanced clinically than those diagnosed in women who had never used these contraceptives."[2]
This data has been interpreted to suggest that oral contraceptives have little or no biological effect on breast cancer development, but that women who seek gynecologic care to obtain contraceptives have more early breast cancers detected through screening.[80][81] While taking the pill, there are approximately 0.5 excess cancers per 10,000 women aged 16–19, and approximately 5 excess cancers per 10000 women aged 25–29.[76]
It is generally accepted by medical authorities that the health risks of oral contraceptives are lower than those from pregnancy and birth,[82] and "the health benefits of any method of contraception are far greater than any risks from the method".[83]
Some organizations have argued that comparing a contraceptive method to no method (pregnancy) is not relevant—instead, the comparison of safety should be among available methods of contraception.[84] Among contraceptive clients users of oral contraceptives had a slightly reduced all-cause mortality.[85]
