Here is a pretty good summary of (H5 and H7) outbreaks (Animal) so far in 2010. Keep in mind reporting by some Countries is not consistant or nill.

Yes Suzi2, kind of bizarre huh. Some Countries are either under reporting or not reporting at all. The only other explanation is that there is an assumption of Avian Infections or endemic to certain areas. Egypt being on of these Countries where there have been ongoing human infections for some time and the same reference is made in all investigations (See Below)

Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update 33

30 March 2010 -- The Ministry of Health of Egypt has announced two new human cases of A(H5N1) avian influenza infection.

The first case was announced on 28 March and is a 30 year-old female from Damietta district, Damietta Governorate. The case was admitted to hospital on 24 March where she received oseltamivir treatment. She is in a critical condition.

The second case was announced on 21 March and is a 4 year-old male from Beba district, Beni Suaif Governorate . The case was admitted to hospital on 18 March where he received oseltamivir treatment. He died on 24 March.

Investigations into the source of infection indicated that both cases had exposure to sick and dead poultry.

The cases were confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).

Of the 108 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) reported in Egypt, 33 have been fatal.

Vietnam girl found with bird flu; blue ear spreads
Last updated: 4/10/2010 17:00

The Health Ministry Friday announced that a 2-year-old girl from Bac Kan Province was infected with the bird flu.

The girl from the northern province of Bac Kan is the seventh patient to be diagnosed with the flu, the Preventive Health and Environment Department said.

Vietnam has reported two H5N1-related deaths this year, a 38-year-old from the Mekong Delta Tien Giang Province in February and a 3-year-old in Ho Chi Minh City last month.

Bird flu infected five people in Vietnam last year, all of whom died.

Also on Friday, the Animal Health Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the blue ear disease has recurred in the northern provinces of Thai Binh and Thai Nguyen.

A total of 1,090 pigs in Dong Hung District, Thai Binh and 21 in Phu Binh districts in Thai Nguyen Province, have been found with the disease.

In nearby Hai Duong Province, nearly 40 pigs have died of the disease, nine months after the government announced its successfully containment.

In June last year the department said that Vietnam has successfully curbed the spread of the foot-and-mouth disease, bird flu and the blue ear pig diseases.
