Those same spammers like to re-join and post in he middle of the night. Persistant little buggers. I would have thought they would have given up by now and left. I unfortunatey let this continue for so long that they've made this their prime spamming site. However, it's not over yet. For the time being late at night, I will disable the forum from allowing "brand new" members from posting. So anyone who joins late at night when we're sleeping will not be able to post. Their proxy servers can do nothing about it and they will be confused as to what's happening, and will give up.
We're getting rid of these guys for good. |

You got it FluMom.
You've had some great advice and input over the last 5+ yeas and it's been much appreciated. Thanks for sticking around.

Awesome. For a while we would be nailing twenty to thirty spam posts every few hours. It's slowed down a bit now, but I would love to have the forum require email certification if not full on moderator/admin request. The first possibility would probably stop most of the bots for the simple reason that they're throwing out bogus email addresses anyway. |

That's a good solution, and we can do that. Might be the next step now that the names are deleted and they have to re-reg. Good plan.

I don't like to use the email verification, but we might try it. Would like to get it back to the old days in which "guest" can post without registering. It's difficult to get people to register and participate and sometimes the easier it is to register, the better. Sometime there's tech problems in email verifications, whether on our side or on the new member's side, they happen. But we will do it very soon if the problem continues, as again i like the solution and we may temporarily do it until it's resolved.

Albert, can you take this spam down please? For some reason I have no mod functions in this thread, weird.

I've had quite a few late night spam posts in the last few days from the UK that I couldn't delete. Not a huge problem as someone else took them down pretty quickly. The time difference works to their advantage - early morning there is the middle of the night here.

Had a ton today. Have you guys seen an increase over here? One spammer posted 36, a handful of others posting 1 or 2 each, a few gibberish names that hadn't posted anything yet. Albert one post in Finland I can't delete, same problem as before, no admin functions.

Is their IP address from the UK or is it just what they say? Look at the IP address they're using and type it into this address: http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm It'll tell you where exactly they're posting from. Typically they're posting from China. I had just about all of China's spam areas banned, but the spam list got deleted... |

No IPs on a lot of them, and no way to delete them, but their location was showing up as the UK. It was the usual spam - rolex, gold, cialis, etc.

Ya, probably by mistake lol. It happens. Of course there's no way to ban admin like with all forum software, at least not with this one. I even accidentally banned my own i.p several years ago, so these things happen. The problem is that some i.p's are used by many different people, and blocking common i.p's can result in a lot of potential members being blocked by mistake. Plus, with these spammer, they're using proxy servers to blocking their i.p wont work.
I have to sort through the mod functions/users and should have it all fixed by Monday. |

With all the posts on here calling out the Chinese authorities for their apparent lack of transparency and the sudden uptick in spam from China, makes you wonder if we haven't ruffled some feathers...

Oh, i can assure you we've ruffled some feathers, and it will continue. Until I feel we're getting the truth - don't plan on the ruffling to end anytime soon. Someone has to keep things in line and expose the truth at all costs as the stakes are very high in this situation, and AFT will continue on this plight.
Like I've said, this site goes far beyond just tracking and posting news I'm afraid. |

Just deleted more spam (mod functions seem to be working again, Albert), and checked the IP using the geobytes link TG provided. Beijing again despite their profile saying the UK.

The mod functions are fixed. Please gang, anytime those UK spammers show up, deactivate them and delete the posts as quickly as possible - regardless of the hour of the night - if possible.
Many thanks, Albert |

I took down a few last night as soon as they posted - Beijing again but claiming they were from the UK. I just found another one, but mod functions seem to be down again. I posted a comment after it so it should show up in active topics.

Finland on Swineflu.org still has no mod function.
I have been getting slammed over there the past 3 days... has it picked up over here too? Had almost 20 today. And almost all of them say UK... one thing... a few of them are not making gibberish names anymore, actually putting a "little" thought into it... but you can tell they are still spammers.

Check their IPs, Jen - Turboguy clued me into a site called geobyte.com that has an IP address tracker. All the UK ones are actually coming out of Beijing (go figure...). And they're starting to come up with better names here too. I noticed they all use the same operating system - Windows XP.

A little after 10pm and we have six people trying to register as new users - all using Windows XP and IE 6, all with IPs showing them as being in Beijing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the internet in China is pretty heavily restricted, so would an average citizen even be able to get on to AFT? I'm guessing it would prove to be difficult, if not impossible. So how are we getting so many spam messages originating from Beijing and who's giving them the green light? Seems that someone's decided to try and devalue our stock by flooding us with spam about prom dresses, watches, ED medications, and anything else they can think of to dilute the info we're sharing here.

Bear in mind young guns, without proof and I.p posted, and where it goes, nada and pure speculation. Although the spam problem here rivals the worst ever seen on a forum, so I doubt it. Any proof and we really have fun.

Lizzie and justintime now have mod functions to deactivate spammers and delete posts throughout the night, and Carbon as well. So now you 4 have help, not that you might actually get up at 2am and look in. If this was a paid spot I would fine your bonuses lol, but watch out for UK spammers.

That works out good. Now we know what to look for. If their username is jibberish and they're from the UK, get rid of them. The UK is the trademark to watch for, but don't ban an innocent person if you can help it, but seek and destroy.

I used up all my free IP address checks on geobyte.com last night (they have a "reasonable use limit" apparently) on unregistered guests, and lo and behold, I found about a third of them were in Beijing. Seems we're attracting an awful lot of attention in China.
