H7N9: Two new cases in Shanghai

Via Xinhua: China reports 20 H7N9 cases, 6 fatal. Excerpt:
Chinese health authorities said that as of 5 p.m. Sunday, the country had reported a total of 20 H7N9 cases, including six that have ended in fatalities.
Two patients in Shanghai were confirmed to be infected by the H7N9 avian influenza virus within the 24 fours from 5 p.m. Saturday and are being treated, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said in a brief statement posted online.
Six people who had come into close contact with the two infected patients have been placed under medical observation, the agency said.
Shanghai also reported two new confirmed H7N9 cases between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.

As predicted, we have another two new cases today, as we've seen daily over the last few days.  The Chinese are getting predictable with reporting.  In my opinion, there are most likely several more cases, but China is reporting just two a day and are slow to release information.  And again, all but two of the infected are hospitalized in critical condition, but no update on their condition is being reported, as well as no further deaths reported.

China's transparency, or lack thereof, is a problem here.

New bird flu virus now infects at least 20 in eastern China

BEIJING -- Shanghai has reported two more cases of human infection of a new strain of bird flu, raising the number of cases in eastern China to 20. The death toll among those who contracted the virus remains at six.

Health officials believe people are contracting the H7N9 virus through direct contact with infected fowl and say there's no evidence the virus is spreading easily between people.

China's official Xinhua News Agency reported the two new Shanghai cases Sunday, citing local authorities.
