more to come
this just came up on my alert channels

http://www.forbes.com/sites/dandiamond/2014/09/30/ebola-comes-to-america-cdc-confirms-first-case-of-ebola-diagnosed-in-united-states/

A patient in Texas has been diagnosed with Ebola, the CDC confirmed on Tuesday.

It is the first case of Ebola diagnosed in the United States. That’s an important distinction because — unlike the medical workers who contracted Ebola in Africa and were flown back to the United States for treatment — the patient could’ve been circulating in the general population.

The patient has been placed in “strict isolation,” according to a statement from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. CDC is holding a press conference at 5:30 p.m. ET

comment: CDC is in conference as I post this.

No the sky is not falling.  But some numbers for people to digest.  The size of Liberia is approximately 114.000 square miles.  The population density is approx.  94 persons per square mile. The size of the metropolitan area of Dallas/ Fort Worth is about 9000 square miles and the population density is approx 694 persons per square mile.

Not good.

At all.

Our borders should have been closed and militarized long before now with a 100% travel ban to and from western Africa.

Another failure for team 0bama.

Obama wins because he wants Ebola to spread. Why else would he get on national TV and tell everyone that there is no issue with air travel into and out of W. Africa! This is a clear win for him because his goal is to wreck our country one way or another.

Discussing blame is silly and irrelevant.  My point is why no one is asking the right questions.  We are being pacified by statements about how smaller countries with inferior health care systems have controlled the outbreak. To me the population density numbers are key, further the Dallas/Fort Worth airport is, I believe a hub for Delta  and maybe some other airlines. The truth is that no one can know if patient 0 was asymptomatic on the plane or at the airport. I would be highly surprised if no other cases are reported.  At this point it is just wait and see.

DFW and the Dallas area are one of the worst places to have this happen. Though anywhere here is just as bad but Dallas presents a few extra problems that are obvious.

sorry but I agree with Elver, this prez has been intent from the beginning on pushing policies on this country that will break it.  Either that or he and the left he represents are complete morons.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/10/01/texas-ebola-patient/16525649/

The health professionals at .gov are digging in, in terms of evidence that Ebola cannot spread by droplet in close proximity.  The sky is not falling, but people will wish it had if this begin spreading the the U.S. as it is in Sierra Leone.

One should bear in mind this arrived in a highly populated area and the patient was sent home while the staff knew he was from West Africa and very bad area of it to spread this to others.

Even if it is not airborn it is a very efficienct spreader even through liquids. You can touch a door know and it can live in a droplet and catch it.

Better triage methods must be developed for incomng West Africans and really at this point we should truly consder blocking flights from severely infect areas or we will wish we had.

As I can, I will continue tracking this and hope to find information beyond them media. My book Pandemic Now I am working on and trying to finish.

In an Ebola Pandemic - we are going to need more than preps- we are going to need to now how to survive- not if - but when.

Excellent point Med.! Prepping is much more than just supplying up. It also has to do with educating ourselves about how not to get infected and how to better understand why there is hope for many (as we often discuss here). Surviving a pandemic is a skill that encompasses many aspects of what we simply call prepping but it includes much more than just supplies and SIP. Part of being prepared to survive a potentially devistating epidemic is gathering up knowledge about who, where, how and why it is spreading for one example. This is why it so irks me when our government carefully neglects to release important details about an outbreak in the name of reluctance to panic the people. This will in fact kill many more people unnecessarily. Lucky us exclusively gifted survivalist types, we are doing a superb job of digging up this info on our own. Thank you Albert for creating a home base from which to better accomplish this essential task.

I disagree. Without blame problems do not get the attention or corrections necessary to prevent reoccurrence.

This first case may very well become patient Zero in an outbreak in Dallas, Texas. Now it turns out over 100 people were exposed.

Federal health officials rushed Friday to assure a frightened public that Ebola does not pose a serious threat in the U.S., even as the first — and thus far only — diagnosis on American soil exposed potential flaws in border screening, treatment and disposal of contaminated items.

As Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan, who showed symptoms of the often-fatal disease shortly after arriving from Liberia, was being treated in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, relatives in Dallas resisted a quarantine amid reports that cleanup specialists were balking at disinfecting their home.

Still, Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), insists he's confident Ebola can be contained in the U.S., unlike in Africa where it has killed more than 3,300 since the current outbreak began late last year.

comment: There are more diagnosis of Ebola cases in the United States.

Now a case in Washington is possible. Maybe, all the reporters should stay here in US . The reporters are also being flown back here with ebola. We don't need anymore reporting outside states. Just assemble a team to find a vaccine . Anyone have a suggestion on he best full face mask to buy?
