Ok, I'm not sure if anyone on here can help me with this, but I'm looking at putting full spectrum bulbs into my barn in the hopes of
a) making my birds/animals happier, & less stressed
b) trying to kill some/any viruses that might show up

I remember watching on a science show years ago how reg fluorescent bulbs flicker to a birds eye (think what the flashing on/off disco lights does to movement for us) and that this flickering was a cause of stress to birds/some mammals in zoos etc. I owned a pet store at the time and we went in the next day and put in full spectrum 'grow' bulbs and the birds were much more settled, calmer and quieter within a few hours.   I replaced the bulbs in my office and noticed less eye strain. Now I'm reading various materials and they refer to UV light killing bacteria and viruses...

Since a barn being closed up pretty much 24x7 in our climate is the perfect place for bacteria to grow and viruses to get a toehold - I'm wondering in anyone has any specific information on which bands of spectrum are the most effective at killing these?
And... if this works in a barn - why wouldn't it work in a persons home during flu season. Not saying it will stop a pandemic - but if UV light can kill bacteria and viruses - why wouldn't it help in the home to do the same? I realize not a lot of homes have fluorescent fixtures but maybe for the rooms, area's that do, it might be something to consider....

Thoughts?
