Eight more MERS cases, seventh death
The numbers are stacking up quickly http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/06/08/uk-health-mers-southkorea-idUKKBN0ON04S20150608 South Korea's health ministry said on Tuesday there were eight new cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), bringing the total to 95 but falling from 23 daily new cases reported on Monday. The ministry also said a patient infected with the MERS virus has died, becoming the seventh fatality in an outbreak that began in May. |

Thanks Cobber.
The President of S. Korea has vowed to end the outbreak by the end of this week so let's see what happens. Although with 1632 suspected cases, who knows. In less than a week the suspected cases went from 398 to 1,632. |

Interesting strategy. They are using mobile technology to trace and inform people of possible exposure. From there they are quarantining them.
I never thought of using mobiles like this. Very inventive and possibly a health break through.

It's nothing new the government has been able to track people through their phones for almost two decades. So what if you don't have a phone and have been exposed to MERS? Or you leave your phone at home because you know you are being tracked? Always an end around. |

According to S. Korea officials, all infections have taken place in hospitals and there is no threat to the general public, but then again, the first patient (patient zero) infected a family member at home and they have over 2000 quarantined in their homes. And of course Margaret Chan chimed in and said the relatives have been infected solely by visiting the hospitals, lol. They are really playing the hospital infections card to the hilt. Let's face it, the people didn't seek medical treatment until they began showing symptoms while at home. And like what we recently saw with the 75-yr old lady who visited two hospitals while she was suppose to be in quarantine, never knew she was suppose to be in quarantine. There are a lot of elderly folk who have no idea what is going on. Will be interesting to see if they actually contain it this week. They should be contact tracing and knocking on doors.

Make that 2800 quarantined. And it has spread to additional regions, and they're now checking pneumonia cases. I think the President painted herself into a corner by saying it will be contained this week. If it's not contained, that will lead to la loss of faith and even more panic.
