http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/paris-attacker-abaaoud-offers-insights-into-is-strategy-a-1064902.html

In terms of media coverage, Abaaoud had been Belgium's best-known jihadist, and yet he nevertheless managed to travel back and forth between Syria and Europe without raising attention and would ultimately conduct the Paris attacks together with an entire group of other jihadists. Few others have reported as openly on social media about their adventures in Syria as Abaaoud. In Dabiq magazine, an official propaganda organ of Islamic State (IS), he had boasted in January that he could "plan operations" and come and go as he pleased despite the fact that "my name and my picture have been all over the news."

Is the Worst Yet to Come?

Thomson says that, according to his research, an Islamic State unit led by a Frenchman is currently preparing attacks in Europe. After the terrorist attacks in Paris, Western intelligence agencies intercepted communications between Abaaoud and Islamic State leadership in Syria. There had been similar clues after the attack in Beirut the day before and also after IS brought down a Russian jet carrying vacationers over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. When IS issued a claim of responsibility for the Paris attacks a few hours later, it provided no information about the perpetrators. But German authorities say this is standard practice for IS: The order is issued by the leadership, but it is then carried out solely by the terrorist cell.

'Islamic State Is Acting in Europe'

It's a disturbing development. In contrast to al-Qaida before it, terror attacks on the West had not previously been a part of Islamic State strategy. Instead, the group had limited itself to expanding its territories in Iraq and Syria and establishing state-like structures.

"Islamic State conceives itself as a state, it acts like a state -- and it employees bureaucrats whose jobs do not differ much from those in the West," writes terror expert Neumann. It provides five to seven million people with food, child care, heating oil and electricity and is seeking to be the "perfect welfare state," he says. Observers say that IS covers up to $2 billion in annual financial needs through oil sales, donations, taxes and the seizure of assets. Neumann refers to it as a "loot economy."

US-led coalition warplanes have inflicted a missile strike on a camp of Syrian regular troops in the Deir ez Zor province, killing three soldiers. Damascus has slammed the incident as an “act of aggression.” This is the first time coalition planes have hit Syrian troops.

The Syrian government says three of its soldiers have been killed in an airstrike by the US-led coalition created to allegedly target Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

In a statement on Monday, the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said 13 troops were also injured when four US-led coalition warplanes fired nine missiles at one of the Syrian army’s posts in the central-east of the country in Deir Ezzor Province. ttp:

Three Syrian soldiers killed, 16 wounded in US bombing of base
DEBKAfile December 7, 2015, 11:32 AM (IDT)

At least three Syrian government troops were killed and 16 were wounded on Monday morning in airstrikes by US warplanes on the Deir Ezzor army base in the eastern part of the country. The airstrikes apparently targeted an ISIS facility adjacent to Syrian army positions. Syria's Foreign Ministry denounced the attack, calling it a "flagrant aggression."
DEBKAfile: It was the first attack in which Syrian soldiers were killed from a direct hit by US planes in Syria.

However, a coalition spokesman denied that its forces had carried out any strikes in the area.

This is a bit harder to deny. There is no doubt there must be some type of increased military response from the U.S. in Syria or all credibility will be lost. Yet, it is more important to address the situation of a growing Isis (when will they ever stop calling them Isil) which now proves to be a clear and serious threat to Americans on U.S. soil.  Will they evaluate the concern for a loss of control in Syria for a much wider and serious threat to the world by Isis?  One thing is for certain - the mainstream media are not accurately reporting the news.    Medclinician

I agree Med, I think there is a bit of ostrich syndrome here.  "If we nibble at the edges of the problem it might just go away."

I know I am unusual here in that I like Obama, but he is not up to this challenge!  Bush (who I detested) would have done a far better job.  There is a time for peacemakers and a time for warmongers.  Obama is the wrong man for this job.

Sadly, I cannot see the situation getting any better, I actually forsee it getting much worse.  I think the threat will continue to be underestimated until we are all caught up in civil wars and then a global one.

http://www.debka.com/article/25067/Under-secret-Moscow-Cairo-deal-first-Egyptair-passenger-flights-to-Damascus-Aleppo

A new secret pact has taken shape in the Middle East. Last week, the offices of Russian Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi secretly formulated a tripartite accord for strengthening the ties between Moscow, Cairo and the Assad regime in Damascus, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources reveal. The pact had its first visible manifestation in the unannounced landings last Wednesday, Dec. 2, of the first Egyptair passenger flights at Damascus international airport and Aleppo in northern Syria.

A Russian advanced Kilo-class submarine has appeared near the Syrian coast, according to a source in the Russian MoD cited by Interfax. The Rostov-on-Don sub is equipped with modern Russian Kalibr cruise missiles.

In mid-November, there were reports of the same submarine allegedly striking targets in the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa.

Russia beefs up its Armenia bases near Turkish border
DEBKAfile December 8, 2015, 10:24 AM (IDT)

Russia has deployed seven attack and transport MI-24 and Mi-8 helicopters to reinforce its air base in Armenia near the capital, Yerevan, the RIA news agency quoted Russian Defense Ministry as saying on Tuesday. Russia also has a military base in Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia in the northwestern part of the country close to the Armenian-Turkish border. The air base was set up in 1995 and since 1998 Russia has been stationing there fighter jets MIG-29

Turkey inserted its commandos into border regions of Syria inhabited by Turkmens, while Russian Air-force started hammering their positions immediately.

Russian bombers in this operation were escorted by nine Su-34 fighter jets, that flew along Syria-Turkey border.

Turkey scrambled F-16 , but their pilots didn’t even dare to interfere with bombing of their own on the ground, reports online portal Fakti.

http://southfront.org/isis-advances-amid-nato-airstrikes-against-syrian-forces/

On Sunday, the US-led ‘anti-ISIS’ coalition poundend the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the province of Deir Ezzor. 1 soldier was killed and half dozen others were wounded.

According to the reports, the military camp belonging to the SAA’s 137th Artillery Brigade in the village of ‘Ayyash was a main target of the US warplanes.

After the US air raids, the ISIS militants started a full-scale offensive on the villages of Ayyash and Bgelia in this area.

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2015/12/08/putins-next-move-on-the-grand-chessboard/

According to a Star and Stripes article on December 7, 2015, Syria has accused US Led Coalition aircraft of hitting a Syrian Army base and killing three soldiers in an airstrike on Sunday, December 6, 2015.

Not only has the USG denied this attack was theirs, but has actually blamed it on the Russian Federation.

Has America now become engaged in an open act of war against Syria along with all the covert acts of war brought against Syria using their surrogate mercenary army ISIS?

ISIS foreign contingent in Syria doubles, study says

DEBKAfile December 9, 2015, 9:25 AM (IDT)

The number of foreign fighters among the ranks of Islamic State in Syria has doubled over the last 16 months and now stands at approximately 27,000, who are mostly from various Arab countries, the US-based Soufan research institute said Tuesday. The largest group is Tunisians, accounting for about 6,000, with Saudis (2,500) second and Russia (2,400) third, followed by 2,100 fighters from Turkey and 2,000 from Jordan. The study also claimed that about 5,000 ISIS fighters come from various countries in Europe, with 20 to 30 percent returning to their countries of origin. Among the Europeans are 1,800 French, 760 Britons, 760 Germans and 470 Belgians, the study said.

Russian notice to US and Israel of cruise missile fire from submarine

DEBKAfile December 9, 2015, 9:08 AM (IDT)

Russia gave the US and Israel advance notice before launching the Kalibr cruise missile Tuesday from the Rostov-on-Don submarine upon its arrival in the eastern Mediterranean opposite Syria.
The missile was aimed at the ISIS Syrian base at Raqqa.

The missiles "targeted two major terrorist positions in the territory of Raqqa," Russia Today quoted Shoigu as telling Putin. "We can say with absolute confidence that significant damage has been inflicted upon ammunition warehouses and a mine production plant, as well as the oil infrastructure."

Raqqa is the de facto Syrian Islamic State jihadist group.

The Russian Defense Ministry, posting on its Facebook page, said the strike was conducted as part of a coordinated increase in the intensity of Russian strikes against the Islamic State and other extremist targets operating in Syria ordered by President Putin on Dec. 5.

comment: The use of more sophisticated weapons is significant. These are also tests of delivery systems which could be used if things went nuclear in the war zone of the Mediterranean.  This is similar to what I posted as they launched missiles from the Black Sea.  Facebook  currently has a user base of 2.6 billion people.

https://www.rt.com/news/325477-arab-army-iraq-plan/

The US is to send some 10,000 troops to Iraq to provide support for a 90,000-strong force from the Gulf states, a leading Iraqi opposition MP has warned. The politician said the plan was announced to the Iraqi government during a visit by US Senator John McCain.

During a meeting in Baghdad on November 27, McCain told Prime Minister Haider Abadi and a number of senior Iraqi cabinet and military officials that the decision was ‘non-negotiable’, claimed Hanan Fatlawi, the head of the opposition Irada Movement.

“A hundred thousand foreign troops, including 90,000 from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Jordan, and 10,000 troops from America will be deployed in western regions of Iraq,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

She added that the Iraqi prime minister protested the plan, but was told that “the decision has already been taken.”

The Bagdad-Government will see this act as an invasion. Iraq has a long stretched border in the south with Saudi Arabia. The KSA, U(nited) A(rab) E(mirates) and Qatar have been supporting IS. So to claim they now want to fight IS is false. They want a Sunni-state in western Iraq/Eastern Syria. Turkey wants Mosul-region for drinking water and oil.

If there would be such an Saudi/US invasion of Iraq that would give "very severe stress" on the Russian-Iraq-Syrian-Coalition (RISC) and China. Egypt did sign a treaty with Russia over a nuclear power plant to be build by Russia.

If this "news" of possible plans by the US/KSA to invade Iraq has any thruth it will make Bagdad ask for Russian, Iran support. A NATO/Gulf States invasion to support IS would than bring the world very close to a "larger scale confrontation" that will not be limited to the Middle East.

The presence of IS in Libya, Afghanistan, Ukrain (only possible by large airlifts) is already a serious escalation. Western leaders only can "sell" such a large war with more "terror-acts" for wich their own "intelligence" can be blamed.

https://www.rt.com/news/325825-sarin-gas-syria-turkey/

Addressing parliamentarians on Thursday, Erdem showed a copy of the criminal case number 2013/120 that was opened by the General Prosecutor's Office in the city of Adana in southern Turkey. Speaking to RT later, Erdem explained the basis of his accusations in detail.

The investigation revealed that a number of Turkish citizens took part in negotiations with Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) representatives on the supply of sarin gas. Pointing to evidence cited in the criminal case, he said that wiretapped phone conversations proved that an Al-Qaeda militant, Hayyam Kasap, acquired sarin.

“There is data in this indictment. Chemical weapon materials are being brought to Turkey and being put together in Syria in camps of ISIS which was known as Iraqi Al Qaeda during that time. These are all detected. There are phone recordings of this shipment like ‘don't worry about the border, we’ll take care of it' and we also see the bureaucracy is being used,” Erdem told RT.

Based on the gathered evidence Adana authorities conducted raids and arrested 13 suspects in the case. But a week later, for some inexplicable reason, the case was closed and all the suspects immediately crossed the Turkish-Syrian border, Erde says.

Almost a month went by and then, Tuesday night, after a day of dickering with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov culminating in a joint conference with Putin at the Kremlin, Kerry confirmed this evolution in US policy. The focus now, he said, is "not on our differences about what can or cannot be done immediately about Assad." Rather, it is on facilitating a peace process in which "Syrians will be making decisions for the future of Syria."

Christmas 2015: Will Syria & Iraq Become Washington's Stalingrad?

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-22/christmas-2015-will-syria-iraq-become-washingtons-stalingrad

2016 is going to be an interesting year
and not in a good way either
if the petro dollar collapses
it's good bye American way of life for the MAJORITY of us
"working poor" will be the new norm

"Our foreign policy is designed to perpetuate the failing petrodollar system"

"I hope I'm wrong but I fear Washington is trying to provoke a war in the Middle East to cover the coming collapse of the Petrodollar system and the American economy when the dollar is no longer the world reserve currency. The war is necessary to blame the coming dollar and debt collapse on Russia and China rather where it belongs on Wall Street, the central banking cartel and Washington political establishment"

It's not over.  As we approach 2016 - the question remains for the United States. Other nations are moving in to take a greater role in stopping ISIS in Syria.  Will we? The role of GIM (CWN) Global Independent New is growing. Perhaps not boots on the ground, but this is a war to put the "Real News" out there. Smart phone on the fronts of emerging and continuing world conflicts will tell us what is happening beyond the mainstream media.

The face of war is a terrible one. These are disturbing videos and you are advised about that. They are not gruesome, but they make me feel terrible that we cannot do something to help these people. Many leaders simply do not care how this effects the people. In the displays of tough action and power people are dying and many of them are children. Just because this is not in America and these are not people families or here does not make it alright. If something is not done - beyond the butchery and carnage which is all over the the mainstream - this is the real news and face of war and should break peoples hearts.. emotional... choked up... it does mine.

The western media tries to describe Russian bombing in Syria as war-crimes. The same media ignores the ongoing flow of oil from IS-held area's to Turkey, the financial support from countries like Saudi Arabia wich still goes on-to IS.

Starvation has been used several times in this war by both sides. Assad is a cruel dictator. But chaos is worse. The plans for "government-change" go back to 2006, come from the US (and go to the Bush-era).

War is a crime. Not only in Syria but also in Yemen, Congo, Nigeria, etc. The people who make money out of war belong in prison.

Southfront also has pictures of what are supposed to be IS-fighters in the (nazi)AZOV-battalion in the Ukraine. Proberbly also propaganda. http://southfront.org/isis-militants-among-fighters-of-the-ukrainian-battalion-azov/

In the midst of war torn Syria. This is a bit lengthy but it is a first hand video of the fighting. There is no carnage, but the images of destruction makes one wonder, what would happen if this happened in America?  Not to get all political, for the media has been pretty quiet about our recent EO confiscation of firearms in the U.S. and some militias still trying to form. Perhaps taking the guns away might make it impossible for people to defend themselves should we see Anarchy in the streets. It is very hard to really see who are the heroes in this conflict. Are there any really?  This should have been resolved years ago by a strong statement in military policy instead of the denial of the problem. Whatever the reason, whoever started it, this is the end result of war. No one thinks this kind of thing could happen in America. It could.

The clash continues and is just not receiving that much coverage in the media. Despite the media barrage of news when Russia first sent in troops, and now other nations have joined the fight, as election sabers rattle, less is said of this conflict.

The bottom line is, are any significant gains being made to stop ISIS?

https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/789

I did not find any confirmation of this news elsewere, if it is true it is a further escalation:

Three regular army Turkish ground troops have been captured (Photo Below) and five others have been killed after Turkish troops entered Syria today - without permission - and were engaged by Russian Forces!  The presence of the Turkish troops has escalated the war situation in Syria to an unimaginable level which may have disastrous consequences for the world.

Claiming they intend to attack the ISIS terror group in reprisal for the terror attacks last week in Istanbul,  the Turkish troops entered Syria at the Jarablus Border Crossing, thereby instantly entering territory controlled by the terror group, ISIS as shown on the maps below.

Upon entering into Syria the Turks encountered heavily armed ISIS forces . . . and walked right by them; neither Turkish nor ISIS troops engaged the other in battle!  The Turkish troops then took-up positions BETWEEN the ISIS terrorists and the Syrian Army, as if to protect ISIS!  This made it clear instantly to the Russians embedded with the Syrian Army, that the Turks are, in fact, allies of ISIS.

For months, Russia has been providing evidence to the world of Turkish cooperation with ISIS.  Video of oil tanker trucks, carrying stolen oil from Iraq and Syria into Turkey for processing, have been made available to the world, proving Turk-ISIS cooperation.

Today's entry into Syria by Turkish troops who immediately failed to engage ISIS fighters, seems to be irrefutable proof that Turkey is working WITH the terror group ISIS.  The big question facing the world was: Now that Turkish troops are in Syria, would they face strikes from Russian forces?

Late Today, the World Got the Answer

Russian troops engaged the Turkish regular Army troops in battle.  In the end, three Turkish regular army troops were captured alive; five Turkish regular Army troops were killed.

Regardless of the fact there has been no formal declaration, there is now a defacto state of war between Russia and Turkey.  The world now waits to see if Turkey goes crying to NATO claiming they were "attacked" -- while in a country they had no right to be in --  thus opening the door for a NATO response against Russia.

Few times in history have the west (and the world) been so close to actual war between nuclear-armed powers of Russia versus NATO as we all are right now!

This is a deadly serious situation and we should expect developments to take place with lightning speed.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

http://johngaltfla.com/wordpress/2016/01/20/the-obama-administration-raises-the-stakes-as-u-s-military-illegally-occupies-airfield-in-syria/

US troops have taken control of Rmeilan airfield in Syria’s northern province of Hasakah to support Kurdish fighters against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) told Al Jazeera.

The airfield near the city of Rmeilan, which will become the first US-controlled airbase in Syria, was previously controlled by the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The airfield is close to Syria’s borders with Iraq and Turkey.

“Under a deal with the YPG, the US was given control of the airport. The purpose of this deal is to back up the SDF, by providing weapons and an airbase for US warplanes,” Taj Kordsh, a media activist from the SDF told Al Jazeera on Tuesday.

This Rmeilan Airfield is east of were Turkish forces went into Syria (according to superstation).

Carter did not give an exact number, but said the number of US personnel is going “to increase greatly as the momentum of the effort increases.”

He stressed that the reinforcement would involve not only the US, but also its coalition partners. In this regard, Carter said that one of his goals is to bring Arab countries – “Arabs and Sunni Arabs” – into the military campaign, as they can be “an enormous contribution to this.”

“I want to hear from my counterparts over the next couple of days -- how can we get them in the game. I have long said that Arabs and Sunni Arabs need to get in the game,” Carter said on Tuesday.

January 28, 2016 (20:30). On January 28 in Moscow, there was a meeting between Russian Federation Minister of Defense, Army General Sergey Shoygu and the Minister of Defense of Syrian Arab Republic Fahd Jassem al-Freij.

The two sides discussed bilateral military and military-technical cooperation. They also discussed the effectiveness of Russian air campaign against terrorist groups. There was an exchange of opinions concerning the current security issues in the Middle East.

The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere and confirmed the shared intent to expand multifaceted collaboration between the two defense ministries.

January 28, 2016 (20:56). On January 28, 2016, there was a meeting in Moscow between the Russian Minister of Defense, Army General Sergey Shoygu with the Chairman of the Armed Forces’ Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Colonel-General Mashaal Muhammed al-Zaben who was on a short working visit.
There was an exchange of views concerning current security issues in the Middle East. In addition, the two sides discussed Russian-Jordanian military cooperation.

After a year of military gains aided by US-led air strikes, the Kurds and their allies already control the entire length of Syria's northeastern Turkish frontier from Iraq to the banks of the Euphrates River, which crosses the border west of the town of Kobani.

Other Syrian insurgent groups control the frontier further west, leaving only around 100 kilometers (60 miles) of border in the hands of ISIL fighters, running from the town of Jarabulus on the bank of the Euphrates west to near the town of Azaz.

But Turkey says it will not allow the Syrian Kurds to move west of the Euphrates.

The source confirmed a report on Kurdish news website Xeber24 that cited a senior YPG leader saying the plan includes crossing the Euphrates to attack the ISIL-held towns of Jarabulus and Manbij in addition to Azaz, which is held by other insurgent groups.

http://www.debka.com/article/25191/Russians-let-Hizballah-into-Daraa-breaking-their-promise-to-Israel

On Wednesday, Jan. 27 a large Hizballah force entered the southern Syrian town of Daraa, a critically dangerous event for Israel’s security. The way to the town, which lies near the Jordanian border and across from the Israeli Golan, was opened before Hizballah by none other than Russian forces. This was a blatant violation of President Vladimir Putin’s commitments to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Jordanian King Abdullah not to permit Iranian and Iran-backed forces, such as Hizballah and Iraqi and Afghani Shiite militias, reach their borders in consequence of Russia’s military intervention in the Syria war.

Daraa is just 32 km from the southern Golan and 12 km from the Jordanian border. Hizballah forces in this town are therefore within easy striking distance from northern Israeli and Jordan.

Turkey has summoned the Russian envoy, claiming a Russian fighter jet has violated its airspace, Dogan news agency reports.

According to Ankara, the incident involving a Russian Su-34 took place Friday. Several warnings in Russian and in English were allegedly sent to the jet.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the incident in a statement Saturday, calling it “a type of irresponsible behavior” and warned that they would hold Russia “fully responsible” for any potential “undesirable dire consequences” that may arise.

The ministry also said it views the alleged violation as a clear sign that Russia is seeking to escalate the already existing tensions.

We are reaching a new apex in the War in Syria crises much like presidential candidate Donald Trump as Kerry says to Putin in effect - "you are cheating."

It is amazing to me with Christians being slaughtered and decapitated, that the U.S. cries foul because civilians are being killed by savage bombing missions in Syria. The collateral damage as the U.S. bombed Iraq of hundreds of thousands of people for more than a decade versus the rise of Isis would seem to make this illogical.

Why are people in the Middle East upset? We are occupying their country and were taking their oil.

A quick decisive tactical nuke in Syria might have caused a problem, but we would not be facing ISIS had they not been trained and funded to create an insurgency for proxy control of Middle Eastern nations.

There has been a quality lacking in foreign policy decisions for many years now in the U.S. - common sense. You are not going to be recognized as the meanest most A*** kicking MF in the valley if you keep whining "you are cheating" or you broke the agreement. You don't give a country billions of dollars in ransom money which will go right into the arms of terrorists and plead ignorance. I thought when Jimmy Carter munching on his peanuts paid the ransom and we literally insured terrorist now could extort and terrorize us, we would have learned.

Those who ignore history are destined to repeat it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis

The crisis is considered a pivotal episode in the history of Iran–United States relations.[10] Political analysts cite it as a major factor in the trajectory of Jimmy Carter's presidency and his loss in the 1980 presidential election.[11] In Iran, the crisis strengthened the prestige of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the political power of theocrats who opposed any normalization of relations with the West.[12] The crisis also led to the United States' economic sanctions against Iran, further weakening ties between the two countries.[13]

Duh!  So now we drop the sanctions as Iran continues to mobilize it's military and nuclear development?

Thus causing an oil crises which could hurt the stock markets and economies around the world.

So as the violin plays we can see possible flames - and if we are not careful - World War

In my opinion there is more evidence that NATO in fact is backing IS to fight Assad, Iran, Russia/China. IS is selling oil to NATO countries, Israel, Japan. Turkey is supporting IS against the Kurds. NATO may use a false flag as an excuse to invade Syria, claiming to fight IS but taking over parts of Syria without the permission of the Assad regime. For Russia and China, Iran further proof that IS is a weapon that "the west" wants to use against them. Militairy and economically Iran Russia and China are more co-operating.

1:50 PM - EST -- Moments ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense  confirmed that if Turkey sends troops into Syria, Russian forces will engage them in battle.

At 1:50 PM eastern US time today, the Russian Defense Ministry made another statement, making explicitly clear "Syria still has a functioning government and that government is an ally of Russia.  Any foreign force entering Syria without the permission of the Syrian government will be viewed as an invader.  If Turkish troops enter Syria, Russian forces will engage them in battle."

Because this news should be main news-top of the list:

ISIS Terrorists are backed by the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey!

Later this afternoon, Saudi Arabia announced they are willing to commit ground troops to enter Syria, with coalition partners (i.e. America)  "to fight ISIS."  But the utter fraud of this statement is clear on its face.

Both the US and Saudi Arabia -- along with Turkey -- have been supporting the rebels trying to overthrow the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.  When Russia agreed to provide military assistance to President Assad, that assistance took two forms:

1) Attacks by Russian air power against Rebels, AND;

2) Attacks by Russian air power against ISIS terrorists.

The attacks against ISIS were so effective, that it soon became clear ISIS was being backed by Turkey!   Oil, stolen by ISIS from Iraq and Syria, is routinely carried on tanker trucks from those two countries into Turkey, where it is slightly refined, re-packaged to look like legitimate oil, then sold on the world market at very cheap prices.  This has generated revenues to ISIS estimated to amount to $100 Million per month.

When Russia began attacking those ISIS oil convoys, Turkey sent two of its planes to shoot down a Russian jet which Turkey claimed had violated its airspace.

This prompted an angry reaction by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called the shoot-down and "act by accomplices to terrorism."  He expressly meant Turkey was an accomplice to ISIS!

That began an exchange of diplomatic and economic troubles between Turkey and Russia, with the Russians imposing economic sanctions on Turkey.

ALEPPO IS FALLING

The final stronghold of  ISIS - and other rebels trying to overthrow Syrian President Assad -- is in the city of Aleppo.  Thanks to Russian assistance, the Syrian Army has been able to reclaim territory from ISIS and the rebels, and Aleppo is the last remaining stronghold.

If Aleppo falls to the Syrian Army, President Assad will be back in firm control of his country, thus a defeat for the US, Turkey and Saudi Arabia who have been trying to overthrow him.

Hence, the timing of the massing of Turkish Troops along the Syrian border, and today's "offer" of Saudi Arabian Troops to "enter Syria to fight ISIS."  They don't want to fight ISIS, they want to protect the rebels and continue trying to overthrow President Assad!

The Russian Ministry of Defense made clear what the results will be if foreign troops enter Syria without the permission of the Syrian government:  Battle!

THRESHOLD OF WORLD WAR 3

The crucible of Syria has now separated the wheat from the chaff and the sides are clear:  The US, Saudi Arabia and Turkey trying to overthrow the freely elected President of Syria under the guise of fighting ISIS,  versus the Syrian Army and the Russians who are trying to defend the government of Syria and who are actually killing ISIS.

What we have now is a Mexican stand-off.  Two great powers, the U.S. and Russia, now find themselves on opposing sides in an active battle zone, Syria.    The Russians have permission to be there, no one else does.  This gives the Russians the moral high ground.

Further, since it is now irrefutable that Turkey has been cooperating with ISIS and helping them sell stolen oil to fund terror operations, it is just as clear that Turkey, the US and Saudi Arabia are in the wrong, both morally and legally.

Will that matter to the US, Saudi Arabia and Turkey?  Henry Kissinger, who met with Vladimir Putin Yesterday, gave Putin the terrifying answer:  No.  War cannot be avoided.  Those in the wrong are going to attack.

Having been told this, Russia today deployed their state-of-the-art "air superiority fighter"  the SU-35 "Flanker" to Syria.  This aircraft is not designed to bomb targets on the ground, it is designed to fight other advanced aircraft in the air; the type of aircraft that may be sent by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the US.

The SU-35 "Flanker" is more than a match for anything Turkey or Saudi Arabia may choose to field, and a very good fighter against US assets.  While the U.S. F-22 "Raptor" is superior and would ultimately win, they would have a hell of a fight on their hands.

MASS MEDIA KEEPS AMERICNS COMPLETELY IN THE DARK

The U.S. Mass Media is dutifully keeping these facts from the American Public.  When battle breaks out, it will happen very fast and the American public will be taken by almost complete surprise.  It is likely that Russia will be spun as the bad guys and the country will be asked to "support our troops" as they "fight to defend our freedom" which is all a bunch of hogwash.

In every sense, we are literally standing in the doorway to World War 3.  None of it should be happening, but a cadre of leaders and slime in the US and the west, seem intent on doing it anyway.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-02-07/exasperated-john-kerry-throws-towel-syria-what-do-you-want-me-do-go-war-russians

Of course Kerry won't be able to "sell" that story to the Saudis and the Turks, or to Qatar all of whom are now weighing their oppositions as the US throws in the towel. "Kerry’s mixed messages after the collapse of the Geneva process have put more pressure on Turkey and Saudi Arabia," MEE concludes. "Both feel extreme unease at the potential collapse of the opposition US-recognised Free Syrian Army."

And so, as we said earlier this week, it's do or die time for Riyadh, Ankara, and Doha. Either this proxy war morphs into a real world war in the next two weeks, or Aleppo "falls" to Assad marking a truly humiliating defeat for US foreign policy and, more importantly, for the Saudis' goal of establishing Sunni hegemony in the Arabian Peninsula.

The only other option is for John Kerry to face the Russians in battle. As is evident from the sources quoted above, Washington clearly does not have the nerve for that.

https://www.rt.com/news/331638-uae-ground-operation-syria/

Following in the footsteps of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated on Sunday that it was ready to ground troops to Syria to fight Islamic State. Damascus earlier said it would send unwelcomed invaders back ‘in coffins.’

The UAE’s preparedness to participate in a ground military operation in Syria was confirmed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash, who said that "US leadership on this" would be a prerequisite.

"We are not talking about thousands of troops, but we are talking about troops on the ground that will lead the way ... that will support ... and I think our position remains the same and we will have to see how this progresses," he added, as cited by Reuters.

Rain and windstorms halt Russia air strikes over Syria.
DEBKAfile February 7, 2016, 10:00 PM (IDT)

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the rebel forces under siege in Aleppo and Idlib province are regrouping for an attempted counter-offensive during the lull in Russian air strikes caused by the stormy weather besetting the region since Saturday. This has slowed down the Syrian-Iranian-Hizballah advance on the key city. Our sources report that rebel forces are preparing to recover their road links to the Turkish border, although it is doubtful that they have the military capabilities to manage this.

http://www.debka.com/article/25215/Russian-hands-off-warning-to-US-Saudis-Turks-amid-crucial-Aleppo-battle

The five-year Syrian civil war, faces its most critical moment. Saturday, Feb. 6, a combined force of Syrian army and Hizballah troops and an Iraqi Shiite militia under Iranian officers, were led by Russian air and Spetsnaz (special forces) officers into pressing forward to encircle 35,000 rebels trapped in Aleppo, the country’s largest city. As they tightened the siege, 400,000 Syrian civilians were also trapped and forced to bear heavy Russian air bombardment and savage artillery fire from the ground forces closing in on the city.
Rebel supply routes were cut off Thursday and Friday when Syrian and Hizballah forces captured the Azaz Corridor connecting Aleppo and all of the northern province of Idlib to the Turkish border.

Tens of thousands of refugees fleeing from the beleaguered town are massing at Bab al-Salama, the last Turkish border crossing to be closed against them. This is the largest Syrian refugee exodus since the start of the civil war.
The rebels under siege are painfully short of weaponry for fighting off the massive, combined offensive, DEBKAfile’s military sources report. Their only remaining recourse is to surrender or be ground into submission as the conquering force knocks over their positions and takes over street after street.
Once the combined forces fighting with Bashar Assad’s army take Aleppo and northern Syria, the opposition will have suffered its heaviest defeat since the war began. The rebels groups’ capacity to continue fighting the regime will be gravely diminished.

Their desperate plight - and the fresh surge of Syrian refugees in unmanageable numbers – cut short the conference in Geneva for a settlement of the Syrian conflict, before it got underway – and prompted reactions from sponsors of rebel groups.

In Washington, State Department circles, in a briefing to US media, said the time had come to establish a no-fly security zone in northern Syria. They said: “Once a zone were established we do not believe Russia would challenge the stronger US and NATO forces, particularly if they were operating mainly from Turkey.”

The next day, Friday, Moscow came back with a sharp response: Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said: “Russian air defense systems enable early detection of threats to Russian aircraft flying combat missions over Syria and provide adequate measures to ensure flight safety.”
This was a reminder of the sophisticated air defense S-400 and S-300 missile systems Russia installed at its Syrian air base after the Turkish air force downed a Russian warplane in November.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem put it more crudely: “Any foreign troops entering Syria would return home in wooden coffins.”

Med, good Next News item. Turkey, KSA, UAE, are waiting for the US to give a sign for large scale operations. I do not think the US will give that sign to move into Syria. But maybe into parts of Iraq ?

Debka also claims that Russia and the US are working together inside Syria. Russia might want to "persuede" Assad to go.

For the west, US, EU, NATO, this war (they should stop calling it a civil war !) is about "who runs the planet". When the western intervention that started in 2001 in Afghanistan, 2003 Iraq (or maybe never stopped since W.W.2) turns out in a victory for Iran, Russia(etc.) also other countries/regions will loose confidence in the west. (Ukraine=bankrupt, corrupt, North Africa and Afghanistan disasterzone).

The US will not start a large invasion into Syria. When Turkey does so (maybe with help from Israel, Gulf States) the US will move into damage controll fast.

World War 3 only would have losers. Another point for the "neo-con theory", fossil fuels were interesting to fight for a few years ago. Now there is more supply than demand. The calculations have changed. "Investing in another oil war is not such a profit any longer".

Let's see if the U.S. is going to move into this. This is "independent" news grade - but they are mobilizing.

What do you think about what this guy is saying?  Sounds pretty grim. No doubt the U.S. is aware of what is coming down here. A lot of military power and weapons as well as the newest Russian fighter jets in the region. This guy looks worried. Should we be?

To block any NATO/Gulf states plan for intervention in Syria Russia is mobilizing its army near the Turkish-Russian border region. NATO moving into Syria=Russia moving into Turkey.

A serious development in Russia today as President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia's Southern Military District to Combat Readiness near Turkey's Border.  Put bluntly, Russia is preparing for war.

"In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin, today from five o'clock in the morning the troops of the Southern Military District, the individual components of Airborne Troops and military transport aircraft are on alert, Complete. " said General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

Turkey is sending Russian IS fighters to Ukraine https://www.rt.com/news/331860-turkey-isis-fighters-transit/

The real problem is that “very often” Turkish authorities deport Russian citizens suspected of terrorist activities to third countries, with which Moscow has strained relations (Ukraine) or has no diplomatic contacts at all (Georgia).

“If a person suspected of having links to Islamic State is deported to such countries, our chances to arrest them come to naught,” Karlov said.

The Turkish side maintains that deportation to third countries is exercised “on the suspects’ request.”

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-02-09/saudi-arabia-prepares-send-special-forces-syria-will-fight-part-us-led-coalition

As we reported yesterday, in one of the most surprising developments involving the Syrian proxy war, Saudi Arabia and U.S. presence on the ground, the latest twist is that both Turkey and Saudi Arabia are now mulling a full-scale invasion while Russia and the Syrian government continue their progress in wiping out the US and Saudi-funded rebellion. To be sure, there was confusion when CNN Arabia reported first that the Saudis may send as much as 150,000 troops into Saudi Arabia, by way of Turkey, something which Anadolu news promptly denied.

However, the denial itself was softly denied by the Saudi Press Agency, which further stirred the water earlier today when it reported that not only is Saudi Arabia ready to send a special force to fight in Syria, but that this deployment was proposed by the US, which would oversee the Saudi troops as part of the US-led coalition in Syria. To wit:

  • AL JUBEIR SAYS U.S. PROPOSED GROUND FORCE DEPLOYMENT: SPA
  • SAUDI FORCE WOULD FIGHT AS PART OF U.S.-LED COALITION: SPA
  • SAUDI MINISTER SAYS SENDING GROUND FORCE UNDER DISCUSSION: SPA
  • SAUDI ARABIA READY TO SEND SPECIAL FORCE TO FIGHT IS IN SYRIA

And so, what was until recently purely an air campaign involving all the major global powers (except China, for for the time being), is about to become a full-blown land war, involving not only Suunis and Shi'ites (especially once Iran joins the fray), but also Russian troops on one side and US and Saudis on the other.

Most notably, oil has refused to budge even an inch on what is rapidly shaping up as a precursor to World War III.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
