Saudi Arabia, Turkey and 32 other Islamic countries (Yemen, Libya)have organized and claim that they want to fight terrorism. Since quite a lot of them also financed terrorism these countries "can make a difference". 

Is this coalition going to intervene in Syria and Iraq to fight against Shia-muslims ? The Yemen-war is a disaster for Saudi Arabia, Gulf States, Blackwater mercenaries (and US and Israel). Is this coalition joining NATO ? Against Russia and Iran ? 



Saudis lead new 34-nation “Islamic military alliance” to fight terror

The new counterterrorism coalition announced Tuesday by Saudi Arabia, includes 34 nations with large and established armies such as Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt, war-torn countries such as Libya and Yemen and African nations under terror assault, such as Mali, Chad, Somalia and Nigeria. But Shiite Iran is not a member, nor Iraq which has a large Shiite majority. The new alliance would be Saudi-led and its operations center based in Riyadh. It will be committed to fighting terrorism which “is forbidden by Islam as a serious violation of human dignity and rights, especially the right to life and the right to security."
DEBKAfile: No organizations are mentioned by name in the statement - including the Islamic State.The durability of this alliance is widely compared to that of the 65-member anti-ISIS coalition often hailed by President Obama – long on paper, short in action.

[ Editor’s note:  The Sputnik News report below misses the real direction of the Saudi announcement and the points made by their interview subject from Iraq:  Saudi Arabia is looking for a pretext to isolate and attack Syria as it has done with Yemen using mercenaries from Latin America and around the world, a formula they feel is successful.
That Sputnik didn’t explode in shock when Hezbollah, one of the major anti-ISIS organizations, was mentioned by the Saudi’s as their target is a sign of carelessness. The article should also have been clearly framed in light of Saudi Arabia being the primary backer of the ISIS and al Nusra terror groups they are now claiming to oppose. ]

Consider that, and consider the following headline from Reuters which surely qualifies as the most tragically ironic thing you'll read all day: "Saudi Arabia announces 34-state Islamic military alliance against terrorism"

That's right ladies and gentlemen, you no longer have anything to fear from Sunni extremists because the undisputed king of promoting Sunni extremism is on the case. "The countries here mentioned have decided on the formation of a military alliance led by Saudi Arabia to fight terrorism, with a joint operations center based in Riyadh to coordinate and support military operations," a statement from state-ruun SPA said.

But it gets better. Much better. 

"The countries here mentioned" of course include Turkey and Qatar. Qatar is a well known sponsor of extremist groups battling in Syria.

The obvious question here is this: is this the precursor to Saudi, Qatari, UAE, and (more) Turkish boots on the ground in Syria and Iraq, just as Iraqi Shiite politician Hanan Fatlawi predicted last week? It certainly appears so. Here's a headline that crossed the wires earlier today (from Reuters):

  • SAUDI FOREIGN MINISTER JUBEIR SAYS TALKS ONGOING WITH REGARD TO SAUDI ARABIA, OTHER GULF STATES SENDING SPECIAL FORCES TO SYRIA

With that in mind, we close with one last quote, this one from 30-year-old deputy crown prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman: "There will be international coordination with major powers and international organizations ... in terms of operations in Syria and Iraq."

Pakistan, Malaysia, did not know thet were a member. Turkey is both NATO and Saudi-coalition member. (This could be a problem under the North Atlantic Treaty-can a memberstate of NATO pull NATO in a conflict via another coalition ?)


The international community has welcomed Saudi Arabia’s initiative to create a coalition against terrorism. However, its “military and ideological” role has been met with confusion even among members, some of whom didn’t know they were included.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the creation of an ‘Islamic military alliance’ with a mission to fight terrorism. Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said the coalition of 34 Muslim states would fight the scourge in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan.

The coalition members are to share intelligence, train, equip and possibly even provide forces to fight against militants such as Islamic State and al Qaeda, said Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.

"Nothing is off the table," he stated regarding the possibility of deploying boots on the ground.

A day after Riyadh announced the formation of the coalition, some of its members said that have been caught off guard and never agreed to take part in the alliance.

Does Turkey "enter into any international engagement in conflict with this Treaty"?
