That's what Yahoo News recently alerted on my phone, but now I can't find it. They said the president returned to Istanbul because the coup isn't working out.

There are a few conclusions:

If the coup-generals wanted the same policy as Erdogan there would not be a coup; they want somethingh different or they just want power.

Erdogan was enriching himself and his family with oil-deals with IS (and Iraqi-Kurds) and oil from Syria and Iraq sold via Turkey to (mostly) western buyers (France, Japan, Israel).

Erdogan is pointing his finger towards Fethullah Gullen-living in Pensylvania US. So if this coup fails relations with the US will not improve.

Erdogan did change his policies towards Russia, Syria and Israel-needing better relations due to economic collapse. Since the EU blocked access for Turkey Turkey did have economic growth by trade with countries to the east and tourism. Due to war in Syria and Iraq economic growth collapsed.

Inside Turkey Erdogan did want to mix religion and politics-something Ataturk-founder of modern Turkey-was totally against. The Turkish military want a secular country-negotiations with Syria and the Kurds.

If the coup-attempt in Turkey was a succes or a failure depends on the perspective you choose. If Erdogan wanted to use the (his ?) coup to gain total control in Turkey one could claim this coup was very succesfull-in the short term-for Erdogan.

On the other hand when you have to arrest a significant part of the army-staff, put out of office almost 3000 judges, see tourism and trade crash this take-over attempt is a disaster for Turkey.

Incerlik-air force base is blocked by the Turkish army. It looks like after making enemies with Israel, Syria, Iran, Russia and the EU Erdogan is in for a fight with one of his last allies the US.

With Erdogan demanding the USAF stopping attacks on IS in Syria and Iraq from Turkish grounds Erdogan is showing himself again as a friend of IS. (IS has been fighting the Kurds in the border areas).

Erdogan proberbly now only has backing from the Gulf-States with Saudi Arabia as the main supporter. The Saudi king is very ill. Erdogan is getting more isolated.

I would not be surprised by another coup-attempt the coming months.

Erdogan planned his coup ? https://www.rt.com/news/351995-wikileaks-attack-turkey-documents/ but some ships and planes "are missing" ?

Relations with US "under pressure" ? https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/1653.

Debka:

Does the disappearance of 42 Turkish jets mean the coup is not over?
DEBKAfile July 18, 2016, 8:31 PM (IDT)

DEBKAfile reports that 42 Turkish Air Force planes have vanished with their crews and ordnance - and so has the pair of F16 warplanes which bombed parliament in Ankara and nearly intercepted the incoming flight carrying President Reccep Erdogan back home Saturday. Their disappearance appears to be prompting the president and prime minister to urge citizens to continue turning out in town squares support of the government, in case the coup threat is not over.

Hundreds of police descended Monday on the big Incirlik air base which houses the US jets which carry out air strikes over Syria and Iraq, along with thousands of US air force personnel and their families.

Former Turkish air force commander Gen Akin Ozturk was quoted by the state news agency Anadolu as having confessed to interrogators that he "acted with intention to stage a coup." He was shown with several injuries to his head and upper body. Ozturk was one of 70 generals and admirals who were detained. Eleven had so far been placed under arrest. More than 8,000 police officers were also suspended and forced to hand over their weapons.

A sweeping purge of state institutions has been underway since Erdogan took charge Saturday

Did Russia pick up info in Syria for the planned coup in Turkey and inform Erdogan ? Is Turkey now changing its foreign policy towards partnership with Russia and Iran (and is the western mass-media therefor now giving a picture of Erdogan as a dictator while just a few weeks ago he was a friend of the west. The genocide on Kurds is going on for years-with the help of NATO-Erdogan and democracy did not go well before the coup-he won elections by fraud.)

https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/1673. Is Turkey attacking Turkish pro-coup ships in Greek waters ? Why nobody else is telling that ? https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/1672

And what is the position of the US-troops in Turkey, Debka (Israel) is seeing changes http://www.debka.com/article/25560/Erdogan-locks-US-airmen-nuclear-arms-in-Incirlik

The US is backing Kurdish fighters inside Syria who are fighting rebels backed by Turkey....

https://www.rt.com/news/354042-turkish-police-incirlik-nato-coup/

There were stories that Russia alarmed Erdogan about the coup, Russian special forces brought Erdogan to safety during that coup. Russia would "love" to get much influence in Turkey-that would effect the situation in Ukraine and Syria.

US/NATO losing Turkey would be losing the link between EU/Europe and the Middle East. Far worse for "the west"than Assad staying in power in Syria. NATO can and will not allow Turkey becoming pro-Putin.

Erdogan has strong links with IS. One question is are Erdogan (and Saudi Arabia) "flexible enough" to get some sort of partnership with the country-Russia-that is the main enemy of IS ?

Should Turkey "invite" Russia for "inspection" of Incerlik Air Base that would be unacceptable for the US. If the US reacts in the wrong manner Erdogan will use the US reaction as proof that "the US was behind the coup-attempt". With that Erdogan would get more (secular) backing for his regime.

IS has become a danger for Turkey. So Erdogan may go after religious extremists in a second stage after first going for "Gulen-supporters" in a first stage.
