I could not agree with you more, Satori.

Sadly, just as it was with the  pro-Hitler German people in the 30s and again the pro-Mussolinis and El Doitche, the pro-Trumps cannot see it.  Even more sad, they are not "bad", blind or stupid, just human.  This sorry state of affairs is normal for us.  That is why we are top predator and the most dangerous animal on the planet.

The parallels between Goebbels and Spicer are even more scary.  I am genuinely terrified.

I agree with Technophobe and Satori.  Insightful posts.

Watch for Drumpf to start a "war" in order to distract the public from the ongoing FBI investigation into his ties with Russia.  Where there is smoke, there's fire, and the fact that he won't release his tax returns is really telling.

My guess is that he may provoke Iran, North Korea or other "soft" enemy and then respond overwhelmingly.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is currently weighing it's options in investigating the administration's ties to Russia, and a subpoena for Trump's tax returns is one they're considering.

I find it very interesting that people like Darrell Issa seem to be going to great lengths to publicly distance themselves from the President after openly supporting him during his election campaign.

I watched him last night speaking on TV.  What he had to say tallies with everything we have been saying here.  He put it more eloquently than I did though.

GOOGLE translation:

The trump factor in disease control

In the case of disease control, the United States is still leaving the country. Whether the Trump still goes, is open - that makes the virus H7N9 particularly dangerous, commented Lars Fischer.

The avian influenza is at present at most a stress factor for poultry farming headlines. But there are good reasons to pay more attention to this and other plagues. One of these is the virus H7N9, the other US President Donald Trump.

The epidemic of epidemics in West Africa has shown two things: firstly, that it is not possible in the global disease control without the US government. And secondly, the US under President Trump will probably no longer fill this role. At the height of the plague, the United States sent 3000 soldiers and as many civilian workers to West Africa, providing $ 5.4 billion to fight the disease. President Obama then launched a joint initiative of 50 states in the same year in order to detect new emerging infectious diseases as early as possible.

"The greatest pandemic risk in 100 years"

The current US president is not likely to expect such commitment. On the contrary, taking Trumps statements during the Ebolakrise as a benchmark, one must be grateful in case of emergency if he does not make everything much worse. At the time, for example, he called for the non-existent flight connections to the affected countries and forbid entry for ill US citizens. Today, he leaves little doubt about his contempt for international cooperation.

The bird flu virus H7N9, which has been infecting poultry and killing humans since 2014, reminds us how dangerous this situation is. In the last three years, only 50 to 150 people have died from the pathogen, and these figures are already one-and-a-half Months. In January, the Chinese health system recorded nearly 200 infected people, 79 of them died - more than a third. The infection expert Guan Yi from the University of Hong Kong can be cited by saying that H7N9 is the "greatest pandemic danger in 100 years".

So far, authorities and the WHO have no evidence that the pathogen can circulate permanently among humans - most infected persons were infected with poultry, a few through close contact with infected persons. However, the pathogen in poultry causes hardly any symptoms and can spread accordingly inconspicuously, possibly also abroad. The very high mortality and the large number of infected persons in recent years in comparison to other bird influenza organisms make the pathogen dangerous. In addition, two samples of the pathogen have proven to be resistant to the drug Tamiflu.

Whether H7N9 really triggers an epidemic among humans or disappears in the sinking like H5N1, is currently difficult to estimate. However, the case may serve as a warning: the question is not whether during the term of office of Donald Trump a globally threatening infectious disease emerges - but when.

The lessons of SARS

In the worst-case scenario, the US government might react to an emerging pandemic, as suggested by Trumps Tweets during the Ebola epidemic: rejecting collaboration, setting boundaries, and viewing the infected as an internal and external security issue. The bioethicist Art Caplan from New York University painted such a scenario as early as 2016 in an article. And even if Trump is very willing to participate in the global disease protection - there are indications, for example, he took this sector from his suggestion of a governmental stop - it is not yet clear whether he actually promotes international cooperation or simply Only other heads of government.

After the SARS epidemic, which was stopped only with difficulty after over 8,000 infected and 700 deaths in 37 countries in 2003, a number of states have learned their lessons: killing isolationism. The fact that the Chinese government is now providing real-time information about new infections with the deadly bird flu virus H7N9 is a result of the SARS shock 14 years ago - and the USA play a decisive role in this. The fact that most of the menacing epidemics in recent years and decades have been glaring or at least currently fought globally, such as HIV, are largely due to the global US commitment. A disinterested President Trump, or even a non-usable US health care system, might trigger the disaster that H7N9 spared us in 2003.

Let me make some remarks on Trump.

-Most economies are debt-based. China has a lot of debt due to buying energy, industrial goods from abroad. It has invested in export production and infrastructure combining materials, low wages, capital and international marketing. In this way China has become an economic superpower. It is now investing in renewable energy so it can less dependent from Russia and the middle east (it spread its buying of energy).

The US has a large debt due not to investing but ideological choices. There so called "market economy" made the state take loans from a rich elite, create US$ "out of air". Investments were made in invasions in oil-rich regions.

Fossil fuel as a bases for economic growth is a fossil idea. The only reason some countries still go for it is because they have a lot of fossil energy in the ground. Russia, Saudi Arabia are in the same boat as the US.

Due to sanctions against Russia by "the west" Russia was forced to produce more things itself, from agriculture to international banking.

The outcome of Trumps policy may be that the US gets marginalized economicly. Eur-Asia has over 5 billion people. Trade with Africa and Oceania will grow. The America's have 1,3 billion people, most of them not in the US. Trumps (lack of) thinking on international trade, in combination with US(led) agression in several countries will only support the "out-casting" of the US even further.

-The western democracies have big problems. People do not feel represented. Trump is the outcome of a proces going on for decades (related to the fall of the Soviet Union, Thatcher/Reagan market economy idea's ?)

There is new respect for "strong leadership". Saddam Hussein, Gadaffi, Tito, did manage to keep their country together. Assad in Syria is yet another example of "democratic dictatorship". Iraq, Libya, Syria once had (relative) good health care, education, housing etc. The west did not come up with a better alternative-in stead supported IS and other extremist groups (for decades-goes back to Yugoslavia).

China is doing relatively good with economic growth, improvement of quality of life for most Chinese. Putin is backed by a far larger percentage of the Russians than most western leaders. This is also the case for people like Assad in Syria, Castro in Cuba (life expectency in Cuba is better than in the US. Health-care is a Cuban export product.)

Trump did not get elected by the popular vote. But h.clinton did not become the democratic party candidate in a respectfull way. The US democracy is in a crisis. The European Union may develop into some sort of democratic dictatorship. The EU has to proof its relevance to the European citizens. Decesions like the Euro, membership of former East-Block/Comecon countries (Poland, Romania, Baltic states) and possibly Ukraine, Georgia are damaging the popular backing of the EU.

One way to get out of that crisis may be more trade with Russia. China wants a new silk road. The US (and an European elite "deep government" royals etc.) wanted to block that direction for the EU (causing wars in Syria, Ukraine).

Trump may find himself in a position in wich he can not improve  the US-Russia relationship. He already did choose a foreign policy against Iran and China. Europe did get less economic growth due to sanctions agains Russia for US decissions (Victoria Nuland : F..k the EU will not be forgotten in Brussels), we did get a refugee-crisis and terrorism.

The un-elected Prime Minister of the UK is willing to look for better US-UK relations after the brexit-most other European countries proberbly are "going to diversify their interests". Economic growth is not coming from the US under Trump but from Asia.

-Trumps "pro-Israel" policies are isolating Israel in an Arab world. The US unwillingly kept the Israel-Arab conflict alive for decades. A growing Israeli minority has Russian back ground. If Israel wants a better future it needs better relations with the Arab world.

Israel did work with Saudi Arabia agains Iran, supported IS. That strategy is putting peace with Egypt in danger. Israel-Turkey relationship suffered from the Gaza-wars.

Russia has air-control over Syria and the region. Thereby became the dominant factor in the Middle East and wants to build out that position.

Israel has to choose between a US under Trump and a sort of coalition with the EU, Russia, moderate Arab countries (and China may want to pick up a role as well). For the longer term Israel could be better of without the US playing such an important role in Israel. Russia and the EU may want to invest in Israel when Israel is willing to become a factor for stability in the Middle East.

The US did back the Shah of Iran for much to long. Trump may not want to loose another long time bridge head in the Middle East. Gulf States find themselves in the same position.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Wikileaks releases CIA information on leaked files:

This is a serious blow to US intelligence gathering, I wonder if Pres. Trump still praises Wikileaks, now that he has responsibility for national security?

---------------

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday praised WikiLeaks for publishing Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s hacked emails.

“I love WikiLeaks,” he told listeners during a campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., prompting prolonged “Lock her up!” chants from his audience. “It’s amazing how nothing is secret today when you talk about the Internet.”

Trump’s Budget Proposal, GOP Health Care Bill Would Cut CDC’s Prevention Fund That Helps States Implement Immunization Programs, Monitor Disease Outbreaks

Mar 08, 2017

NBC News: GOP Health Care Bill Would Cut CDC Fund to Fight Killer Diseases
“…[T]he new health care replacement bill released Monday night by Republican leaders in Congress would slash a billion-dollar prevention fund designed to help protect against [infectious disease] and other threats. The Prevention and Public Health Fund accounts for 12 percent of the budget for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. … The CDC uses it to help states deliver vaccines, watch for infectious diseases, keep an eye out for lead in water, promote breastfeeding in hospitals, prevent suicide, and watch out for hospital-associated infections…” (Fox, 3/8).

STAT: Obamacare repeal and Trump’s spending plan put CDC budget in peril
“…Congressman Tom Cole, a Republican who leads a key panel that oversees CDC’s budget, said it was ‘too early to tell’ what would happen or whether his party could do anything to make the agency’s funding whole. … The Oklahoma congressman warned of the consequences of deep cuts to CDC, even if he is at the same time supportive of increased defense spending. ‘What CDC does is probably more important to the average American than, in a sense, the Defense Department,’ he said. ‘You’re much more likely to be killed in a pandemic than you are in a terrorist attack, so you need to look at it that way. Those investments are extraordinarily important for the protection of the country’…” (Facher/Scott, 3/7).

more numbers coming in
and they are ALL bad news especially for a specific demographic
and that is the average Trump voter

Trumpcare screws the Trump voter more than any others

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017...han-any-others

""What the AARP has estimated, that if you are sixty-four years of age, and have an income of $25,000 a year, you are likely to pay up to $7,000 a year more under this Trump plan, the Republican plan than you presently pay. And those are in fact many people in Rural America who are struggling right now economically. I kind of think that when you look at what the Republicans are doing, look at it not as a health care plan, because it really is not. Look at it as a tax plan with two hundred and seventy-five billion dollars in tax breaks for the top two percent, people earning $250,000 a year or more. It is a massive transfer of wealth from working families, low-income people, middle-class, to the top two-tenths of one percent. Higher deductibles higher premiums for those people in need; massive tax breaks for those who are the wealthiest in America."

BAD choices tend to have BAD consequences

Advocates call foul on CDC cuts in GOP Obamacare repeal bill

Washington (CNN) — Public health advocates are warning lawmakers the GOP plan to repeal Obamacare will eliminate nearly $1 billion in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funding used for programs like preventing disease outbreaks and childhood lead poisoning.

But Republican critics say the Prevention and Public Health Fund, which amounts to 12% of CDC's budget, is a "slush fund" that has been spent on Zumba classes and massage sessions. Their proposal includes a new fund that they say provides states "broad flexibility" to address local health concerns.

The Republican bill would eliminate the fund, created under the Affordable Care Act, which has grown from a small slice of the CDC budget to providing $931 million last year.

It funds heart disease and stroke prevention, immunization, lead poisoning prevention and diabetes prevention, mostly through grants to states and local programs, according to the CDC.

CDC's website says losing this funding would cripple officials' ability to detect, prevent and respond to health threats including pandemic flu.

Public health advocates agree.

While Republicans and Democrats clashed over the bill in two House committees Wednesday and into Thursday, representatives from the non-profit Coalition for Health Funding were on the other side of Capitol Hill trying to convince Republican lawmakers to have a change of heart.

"The senators we met with were generally receptive but I'm not sure we're making headway in changing minds," said Emily Holubowich, the executive director of the group.

The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials called it "a must for keeping states and communities healthy and safe," and said a quarter of the block grants are spent on programs that strengthen responses to "public health threats."

Holubowich told CNN that "the funding is critical to the states and their efforts to protect the public," and accused Republicans of playing politics with health care.

"My sense is they (Republicans) in general support public health and disease surveillance but they are committed to repealing this fund mostly because its part of the Affordable Care Act," she said.

The Republican bill does include a new program that includes grants to states to address health issues.

But that allotment, the Patient and State Stability Fund, would not be administered by the CDC and appears aimed at the high costs of health insurance, rather than funding public health programs.

It is designed to broadly "help low-income Americans afford health care and to repair the damage done to state markets by ObamaCare," Rep. Greg Walden, R-Oregon, wrote in an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

"If they choose, states may also use these resources to increase access to preventive services, like getting an annual checkup. This program gives states new tools and flexibility to care for their unique patient populations," Walden wrote.

If the fund is eliminated all 50 states and the District of Columbia would lose millions in grants. Some of the biggest recipients include California, New York, Texas and Pennsylvania

Not to mention the fact that Tom Frieden resigned in January and the president hasn't bothered to name a replacement. Not that Dr. Schuchat isn't competent but people react differently with an acting Director than to the actual Director.

Great article.  I believe it to be accurate, but put in a less antagonistic style than mine.  I confess that I see Trump as far worse than this portrayal.  But, perhaps, being a news outlet they have less room for speculation than I do: and actually, the facts are scary enough!

House Republicans would let employers demand workers’ genetic test results

https://www.yahoo.com/news/house-rep...100034946.html

"The bill was approved by a House committee on Wednesday, with all 22 Republicans supporting it and all 17 Democrats opposed. It has been overshadowed by the debate over the House GOP proposal*to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, but the genetic testing bill is*expected to folded into a second ACA-related measure containing a grab-bag of provisions that do not affect federal spending, as the main bill does."

now tell me there is not something fundamentally SICK about the Republican Party

"They knew Michael Flynn was a foreign agent. They just ignored it and made him National Security Advisor anyway without having him register as a foreign agent. Perhaps because extending the title to National Security Advisor and Registered Foreign Agent would make it hard to fit on a business card. We have some very sharp people, what do we think about the Russian "Alfa" bank communication with the Trump server?  Innocent or not?  I'm inclined to think there is something very fishy about it, based upon some testimony I saw by high-level computer experts who are baffled....

I wonder if they were laundering Russian oligarch funds through Trump, 5¢ at a time??

CNN reports that the FBI's counterintelligence team is still investigating the "odd" possible server connection between the Trump Organization and Russian-owned Alfa Bank but noted that the government has not obtained a FISA warrant on the Trump server.

  • What happened? The Alfa Bank server repeatedly looked up the DNS address for the Trump server, which CNN compares to "looking up someone's phone number" and notes that it "indicates an intention to communicate."
  • A wrinkle: Alfa Bank made up 80% of the DNS lookups to the Trump server, but another 19% came from Spectrum Health, a company owned by the husband of Betsy DeVos.
  • What's the explanation? Well, no one seems to know. It could have been spam emails gone wrong or a case of technological mistaken identity. Alfa Bank denied any connections to Trump, and Spectrum Health said it had not been contacted by the FBI or any government agency.
  • Summing it up: A cybersecurity expert on the communications between Trump, Alfa Bank, and Spectrum Health told CNN, "There is some sort of connection I can't explain, and only they are doing it. It could be completely innocent."

We have a comedic commentator over here doing a program called "Unspun".  He just called me and my like a bunch of nuts for likening Trump to Hitler.

He went on to point out that Hitler had a plan. - Oh well!  There goes a good theory.

You know, it really didn't help her cause when Hillary said she wanted to put a lot of coal miners out of work!!

I do a lot of work in the energy industry, and the overall feeling is that the US coal industry is dying & unlikely to return due to fuel-switching to natural gas, increasing amounts of solar & wind, etc.  Coal is becoming irrelevant.

Good riddance, it is a filthy fuel, putting more radium and uranium into the ecosystem than nuclear power.

Legislators warn of cuts to pandemic flu readiness in letter to HHS's Price

Two US senators and three members of Congress penned a letter this week to Tom Price, the secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), voicing their concern over President Trump's proposed cuts to government agencies whose work enables pandemic preparedness.

The legislators, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), said that recent reports of human cases of avian influenza in China have raised the threat of a global pandemic, and that since taking office, President Trump has issued at least seven threats of budget cuts to HHS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the main agencies that would handle a flu pandemic.

The president has said he would propose a $54 billion budget cut on non-defense discretionary spending, which could include CDC and HHS. Moreover, in repealing the Affordable Care Act, the president proposes to cut the Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF) which makes up more than 12 % of the CDC's total budget.

In addition to budget cuts, the president has left several key public health administration roles empty, including a CDC director.

The letter concludes with several questions to Secretary Price about the president's understanding of public health preparedness, beliefs concerning vaccines, and executive orders. The legislators request a written response to their questions by Mar 27.

I was just issued a US patent for a device that could help burn coal more cleanly, but it is a nasty fuel all around.

Safe nuclear fuel with a reliable spent-fuel recovery cycle would be the way to go.  The Integrated Fast Reactor was promising, but it was killed off by the Clinton administration who didn't think nuclear had a future.  Wrong!

Mining coal is as nasty as burning the damn stuff.  Mine runoff, methane emissions, particulates etc.   Only good thing about coal is that the US has lots of it, so if we can mitigate the problems, it belongs in the mix, but only for a while.

Trump's AMuRIkA

Gutting the Meals on Wheels program would devastate millions, including 500,000 vets who rely on it

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/3...who-rely-on-it

" An unthinkable*1 in 6 seniors struggles with hunger*and Meals on Wheels provides food to 2.4 million seniors, many of whom are able to stay in their homes, rather than more expensive facilities, because of Meals on Wheels. That number includes an*astonishing 500,000 veterans rely on the service.*"

Is this really who we are as a nation? This weekend Donald Trump makes his fifth trip to his Mar-A-Lago country club. It costs American taxpayers an average of*$3.5 million per trip*for Donald to hob-nob with his clients who dropped $200,000 to get in the door and knock back cocktails with Trump and his Cabinet.*
It costs taxpayers an estimated*$500,000 PER DAY to keep Melania Trump cozy at Trump Tower, far away from her husband. "

and New York City is FORCED to spend an additional 50 MILLION a year for security

3.5 MILLION so Trump can play a round of golf
damn
must be a REALLY nice course

the Donald says "thanks SUCKERS" !!!
