Coleman makes a fairly nice and cost affective "omni power" model of both that are also rechargable. save you having to crank it the forst time around at least.

Radio Shack sells a hand cranked AM/FM Radio. Wind it for a
minute and you get about 30-minutes play time. They are inexpensive and
good to have. It came in handy during some power blackouts a while ago.

It will help me decide if I have to start-up my portable generator.

If it's in your budget, I highly recommend a Baygen.

Freeplay makes a lot of nice hand crank products, but they aren't so cheap. I
just got a radio and flashlight in the mail and they seem high quality and
substantial.

Hi, time is getting too short to pussyfoot around, so I'll just say straight out:
check www.homeemergencyusa.com for great prices on handcrank
flashlights, radios, etc. We have Freeplay and others, all good quality and
probably the cheapest price around.

PS, are others having as hard a time as we are with grown children scattered
around the US (and Japan) and trying to figure out who will be hunkering
down with us, therefore knowing how many to prep for
