To continue the Hitler-ite comparison.  Before and during the Second World War, Germany teamed up with Japan, because they were seen as a route to dealing with that half of the world until they had time for them.  Hitler did not care that Japan (in those days) was cruel, barbaric and expansionist.

Trump just publicly backed the "One China Policy".  Now Taiwan and Hong Kong have lost their protection.  China can just take Taiwan back and complete its stranglehold on Kong Kong whenever it feels like it.  There is no democracy of any account in China.

True, this is somebody else's problem (for now), but it does show that power is considered more important than fairness.  America is relied on by a lot of the world to maintain stability.  Sadly, it has never gained the respect for this that it deserved.  Jealousy of its wealth has driven much anti-Americanism.  But if that protection is withdrawn then the resentment grows, the affection diminishes and the instability recently allowed to fester will spread.

Past American Administrations did not help keep order in the world for altruistic reasons, it was self-preservation.

Actually they did.  The exploits of the fabled Joshua amount to genocide.  But, that is not the point.  The point is that no one is responsible for the actions of anyone else (unless they hold a gun to their head - and even then you can say no if you have the courage).  Yes, there are Muslims who would like to repress women, kill homosexuals, kill or convert the infadel (us) and would go to any lengths to do so.  But most are just like us and not at fault for that, anymore than my much loved Jewish friend is responsible for Joshua.  Please God, don't blame me for the slave trade, the invasion of The Americas (make no mistake invasion it was), the British Empire and the horrors it delivered to India, or what we did to Germany in the first world war!

Even more to the point: finding a group of people to blame, guilty or not, is a staggeringly potent  political tool, if you do not mind getting your hands really dirty.  It does not actually matter who (Jews, Muslims, Hippies, "Reds under the bed").  It was central to Hitler's political plans in the 30s.  He also accused any member of the press who disagreed with him of falsehoods, treason and anti-German - pro-Jewish sentiments (fake news of his day).  His propagandist had a reason for everything he did  and the German people were carefully primed for every political move.  If he could have tweeted in those days, he would have done so, constantly.   'And otherwise kind, good, friendly, intelligent Germans fell for it utterly.  Press repression grew to the point that any contrary opinion was condemmed out of hand.  This culminated in mass book-burnings of any alternate viewpoint.  It was Germany first!  "Deutchland, Deutchland Uber Alles!"  The programming of the German mind was so complete that good, kind people, who would give their last crust of bread to a hungry neighbor, could live within yards of the nearest concentration camp and not dare to notice it.  Ring any bells now?

Incidentally, we have a huge immigration problem here. We are a tiny island capable of feeding about 25 million souls and we now house about 70 million, of which a large portion are immigrants.  Our hospitals are overcrowded, our jobs taken and we have far too many homeless.  But people are still people.  They still matter!  They still feel!  Twice in the last decade my husband's life was saved by immigrant surgeons, one Islamic from Pakistan and one from a province of India and therefore Hindu (India is not Islamic by the way).

All employers pick the best they can get, for as little as they can get away with.  That can hurt when it is your job on the line.  But, closing borders and adopting protectionist tactics earns reciprocal protectionism from other countries.  That makes the original protectionism self defeating: it effectively amounts to isolationism, which impoverishes countries as if they had imposed trade sanctions on themselves.  Look at Zimbabwe and North Korea, they are prime examples of protectionism.  (They both have propaganda machines of huge proportions and have picked a group to demonise too.)

'And what about those wholly innocent souls, kept apart suddenly from friends and family, in some cases in a time of crisis.  That is how you empower your enemies and make even more of them.  Ayatollah Kohemeni immediately pointed to Trump's travel ban and used it to point out that the concept of America as the Great Devil was correct.

Making anyone feel picked on, or singled out can often provoke MORE terrorism.  Over here, The IRA was composed of a few impotent extremists until the Bloody Sunday massacre.  Afterwards they became a potent terrorist organisation which harried the British for decades, killing hundreds.  In most cases it is those denied rights and justice who are the ones which turn nasty.

Islam is a problem - no argument there.  I would class as anti-Islamic by anyone's standards.  But this is not the way to tackle it.  This is not a cure: it is an exacerbation!

I don't see how we're repeating history... The Jews NEVER tried to take over the world.  They never went around killing masses of people.

Help me understand this please?  Jews are NOT anti-gay, anti-female, have a religion that is also their government.  That's the problem with Islam, it's not just a religion... it's also their form of govt.

Trump never said keep out muslims... he said let's take the time to vet them better.

I myself voted for him because I am tired of the H1B visas taking all of our jobs.  I'm in IT and have watched it creep into our culture and now it's taking State employee jobs.  When is the last time you went to the Dr and didn't have an Indian treat you or see one in the office?  Now they are importing Indian accountants!  OMG!  Are we really supposed to believe that we need accountants with all of the people who have graduated college with Business degrees?  Are we supposed to think that our graduates/citizens don't possess the same accounting skills as the Indians?  And don't tell me they get paid less!  Where I work, they are paid the same or MORE.  And stop telling the lie that they go home and are only here for a short while, another lie!  They come here and start having anchor babies and start the process to get their citizenship.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against immigration but I AM AGAINST using back doors to get in.  I am AGAINST giving our jobs to foreigners.  I am AGAINST bringing in larger numbers than we've ever done.  We are already losing our farm land to development like crazy.  If we keep losing our farm land to housing, how are we going to feed ourselves in a few years much less 'be the bread basket to the world'?

Go Trump!  Get it straightened out because you need to take care of yourself first before you can help others.

I'm thinking it feels so good to have a president with a working brain again who knows the constitution and plans to dust it off and make sure it once again becomes the law of the land.

I like that he has already started doing all the things he said he'd do.

I hate all the SOROS sponsored idiots who keep protesting everything Trump says/does.  So sad!  They LOST and then they start bullying.  I wasn't happy with either Clinton or Obama but never saw a bunch of conservatives out there protesting/talking ugly/etc for their full 8 yrs.  I hate how the so called tolerant left is exactly the opposite in reality.  I hate how the media doesn't even try to be objective any more.

More people are behind Trump and his agenda than are against him and I'm thankful for that too.

I can easily see why the UK would say this!  However, it would be somewhat amusing to have Trump stand up and address Parliament, and suffer the groans, outcries and other assorted noises that seem to be traditional in that most august body!!  I'd enjoy watching him blow his stack at that reception!! LOL

The only thing I can say with certainty is that when I personally see Trump, I see a racist liar who has pulled the wool over the eyes of the majority of the American people.  If you substitute the word Muslim for the word Jew he is almost precisely quoting Hitler...............  So much for the world never forgetting.

Based on historical examples, I can see the policies implemented so far damaging America's international trade in such a was as to damage itself primarily* and ENCOURAGING further anti-American behaviors**.  I really, really hope I am wrong!

I am fairly certain that the vast majority of my nearest and dearest feel the same (There is one exception -  an acquaintance who incidentally has schizophrenia.) as they often express far greater dislike/distrust than me.

My husband had some very specialist psychological training, and so spots the lies people tell far better than I do.  His take on our politicians, and those over the majority of Europe, falls in line with this.  Sadly I can only say this is likely and can offer no certainty on their opinions.  Only they themselves could do that.

I know why America voted for him and understand the desperation that prompted them.  But, I can think of no medicine LESS likely to cure the illness than this one.   'And the side affects (in my opinion) could be catastrophic.  The changes to the doomsday clock suggest that this is a more universal opinion than just mine.  I really, really hope WE are wrong!

* Protectionism encourages reciprocal protectionism.  Countries prosper through their trade, that is why sanctions are so painful to the sanctioned. - Simple economics!

** People discriminated against are more likely to hold a grudge.  The grudge holders are usually the aggressive ones.  Look over any historical period to see how this pans out.

What are the real emotions of the American people and the world beyond all the slanted media and unreal news (new term) - what are people thinking really - most of them?

Will he keep his promises?  How will this effect me?

Beyond on the Trump bashing and protests - what is the real situation - the real issues and how will Donald Trump be spoken of in 4 years?
