Researchers at the University of Illinois have come up with a collection of sensors which detect disease in the human breath.
The presence of ammonia in the breath of patients has long been a way of detecting kidney disease. But this always needed bulky equipment. The new sensor material is "shrunk" and made more sensitive by way of microscopic pores in its surface. The new technique is expected to be adaptable to many other disease markers.
