This little gem comes from a journalist on the heavily pro-Republican Fox news. So no one try to say it is automatically anti-Trump.It goes part-way to explaining why Trump won the election. But, more importantly, it explains what Trump needs to do to preserve that support. Perhaps, we here can update this thread periodically then look back at the end of his current term and see how well he has done. I --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------HHS Secretary Tom Price resigns over private plane tripsHealth and Human Services secretary exits administration amid controversy; John Roberts has details from the White House. Now that HHS Secretary Tom Price has resigned over his abuse of chartered flights and the taxpayers who funded them, it's helpful both to have some perspective and to see this as a microcosm of why the 2016 election happened. While it is truly hard to fathom what Price, a smart guy and successful physician, was thinking in charging taxpayers over $1 million on flights since May alone, let’s be honest: His behavior was just the latest example of the longstanding D.C. tradition of taxpayer dollars being abused by "public servants." These abuses have been perpetrated by both Republican and Democrat administrations and members of Congress (Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez’s ongoing federal corruption trial is evidence of that). What's more painful is the blatant hypocrisy of Price's actions. Not too long ago, then-Congressman Price was calling out Democrats for their use of private jets, calling it yet "another example of fiscal irresponsibility run amok in Congress right now."Price’s apparent laissez-faire attitude at the taxpayers' trough is why the American working class has lost faith in and despises Washington, D.C., and is why many Americans no longer trust their institutions. This is why 2016 happened. This is why people rallied around the idea of "draining the swamp." But I would put it a little differently: 2016 was really about the American working class waking up to the fact that our system of government -- supposedly of the people, by the people and for the people -- is not working to benefit them, but rather a small ruling class made up of Republicans, Democrats, and their special interest cronies and corrupt consultants. As this system devolves, the outcome will be despotism -- smiling statism or velvet despotism, but despotism nonetheless. Many of us pay taxes at a rate exceeding 50 percent when federal, state, local, food and gas taxes are combined. Yet many in Washington, D.C. have a mindset of "separate but equal," in which they feel more entitled and more enlightened than the great unwashed masses out in the hinterlands who fund their pay and egregious behavior. Some years ago, I wrote about the ruling class as "American Royalty," and it still holds true today. The behavior of Price and many others adds insult to injury by using the working class' hard-earned money to live a lifestyle many of them could never afford. We understand that in just associations, in civilized society, there are taxes to be paid for security and infrastructure and other limited government services. But we fund our government to advocate and protect the rights of the American people, not for government workers to advance their own narrow interests. Government work is supposed to be about service, not living the lifestyle of the rich and famous on taxpayer dollars. Donald Trump ran on draining the swamp, on rejecting the status quo and business as usual. While I presume Price was given the choice to either resign or be fired, I would tell the president this: Tom Price’s (presumably forced) resignation does not guarantee future change. Price’s behavior is merely a symptom of "Swamp Disease." What Trump must immediately do, through an Executive Order, is lay down stronger guidelines, standards and practices as to how his Executive Branch and Cabinet members spend taxpayer dollars and government resources. This will not only set the tone for this administration, but will help change the behavior of future administrations. There will be hell to pay for any president who might revoke that order. In the end, we want public servants, not elected officials, and there is a massive difference between the two. So Mr. President, don’t just address the symptoms of "Swamp Disease." Cure the disease. The ironic thing about the firing, sorry, the "resignation" of Tom Price is that Trump was upset about how much he'd spent on flights during his tenure. Yet Trump likely spends many times that amount every single weekend he's away from the White House at one of his resorts. Thirty plus weekends since he took office means a lot more taxpayer money wasted than the $500,000 Price allegedly spent.
Did I dream about Trump pledging not to leave the White House or play golf because he'd be so busy? |

Their own demise, Satori. It has become obvious, to me at least, that they (Trump's rich supporters) do not give a **** what happens to anyone else and the rest of his voters spring from the few poor folk too stupid to see the facts and easily programable by the bull**** who, therfore, support him whatever he does - as Fox News and his own tweets say he is infallable, incorruptable and probably the "Second coming".

Amen to that, Techno. I'm still shaking my head at the audacity of the GOP in pushing through a "middle class tax bill" which punishes teachers who are forced to buy their own school supplies, yet gives tax breaks to owners of private jets and golf courses.

Please, Secretary Zinke: just steal our money. Not our lands.
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/11/19/1716106/-Please-Secretary-Zinke-just-steal-our-money-Not-our-lands Between 1998 and 1999, Ryan Zinke, then a Navy SEAL Team 6 officer, traveled to and from his home in Montana and billed the Department of Defense for his travel expenses. According to a report last year by Mathew Cole of The Intercept:
After he was warned, he continued the same behavior until he was kicked off the team. That was a light—very light—punishment for his behavior, which would have resulted in a court martial for any officer not in the high-profile SEAL Team 6. But he got away with reimbursing the government a measly $211 for a single trip, and accepting that commander would be his terminal grade. swamp drainin' is haaarrrrrdddddd work but Trump hasnt busted a sweat because he hasn't done ANY swamp draining the evidence shows quite the opposite |

These people are very, very vindictive! If you look at everything they've done, it is all aimed at hurting the people who did not support "them" and helping the people who did! Who tries to take health insurance away from the poor, and gives tax breaks to the richest of a country while raising taxes on the poor, who tries to send young men and women that were brought here as children, who've gone to school here, graduated college here, paid taxes here, started businesses here and want nothing more than to be good U.S, citizens back to a country they've never known? Who if they don't outright support, at least idly standby and don't speak out about hate speach, white supremacy, neo-nazi's, hate of Jews, Muslims, Hispanics, Blacks, and anyone else who doesn't espouse their beliefs? The answer is obvious and this must be stopped! This is not the country my family has always fought and died for, it's a country they would have fought and died against! God help us all if we too stand idly by!

According to old Donald Trump tweets, John Bolton shouldn't be US National Security AdviserBy Anne Barker Updated about an hour ago PHOTO: New US National Security Adviser John Bolton is regarded as "controversial even in Republican circles". (Reuters: Joshua Roberts) John Bolton's appointment as US National Security Adviser should have been impossible, if Donald Trump's tweets were set in stone. In 2013 — long before he was a presidential candidate — Mr Trump tweeted that "all former Bush administration officials should have zero standing on Syria. Iraq was a waste of blood and treasure."
Not only will he influence US policy in Syria and Iraq, but more immediately and more worryingly, his appointment signals a much tougher US stance against Iran and North Korea. Even by Bush administration standards he was tough, variously described as a "hawk's hawk" and the most "hawkish of hawks" in Washington. Mr Bolton is known for his support of using military force against the two rogue states. As the then-top arms control official, he was a staunch advocate of the 2003 war in Iraq and supported the aggressive use of American power in foreign policy. NBC News White House correspondent Geoff Bennett says John Bolton is "controversial even in Republican circles."
"He was part of the Bush-Cheney crew that claimed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. "He's also a leading hawkish voice on North Korea." PHOTO: US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton raises his hand to vote against a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's recent attacks in Gaza at the UN headquarters in New York November 11, 2006. (Reuters: Keith Bedford) Risks of war with Iran, North Korea now 'significantly greater'New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof says John Bolton is not just a hawk. He's a "pterosaur." "The risks of a war with Iran or North Korea are now significantly greater than they were this morning," he says. As a regular media commentator Mr Bolton has advocated hardline positions on stopping Pyongyang from developing and using nuclear weapons against the US. He was once removed from a US delegation taking part in six-party talks on North Korea after he called then-leader Kim Jong-il a "tyrannical dictator" who ran a country where "life is hell". The North Korean government responded to his exclusion by saying "such a human scum and bloodsucker is not entitled to take part in the talks." Mr Bolton has also advocated getting rid of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, a pact that Mr Trump has opposed. His appointment as Mr Trump's third national security adviser continues a recent trend towards more hawkish advisers likely to support the President's foreign policy views. And it comes at a crucial time for the Trump administration, as it prepares to make key decisions on both North Korea and Iran. Mr Bolton is likely to add a harder edge to the upcoming talks between Mr Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un. Earlier this year he appeared to oppose such talks happening at all. "If we pay heed to the lessons of history, talking to North Korea would be fruitless," Mr Bolton tweeted in February. But he shares Donald Trump's views on the 2015 deal to rein in Iran's nuclear ambitions. In January, Bolton described the deal as a "strategic mistake." "This deal needs to be abrogated and America must craft a new reality that reflects the actions of the Iranian regime," he wrote. Mr Bolton also supports Mr Trump's controversial decision to open a US embassy in Jerusalem, despite condemnation from Palestinians and world leaders. But not all of Mr Bolton's views coincide with those of the President. Donald Trump has repeatedly said the US war in Iraq was a mistake. And on Russia, the new National Security Adviser has long voiced hardline views against Moscow, which could sit at odds with a President who openly admires Russian President Vladimir Putin. Conservative hardliners have praised Mr Bolton for his tough stance on foreign policy but he is also seen as one of the most divisive figures in conservative circles.
In 2005 he was appointed US Ambassador to the United Nations, despite being one of the UN's fiercest critics. Back in 1994 he was quoted saying the US was the world's "only real power." "The Secretariat building in New York has 38 storeys. If it lost 10 storeys, it wouldn't make a bit of difference," he said. Mr Bolton was forced to resign from the UN job the following year after Democrats refused to support his nomination in the Senate. He has shown similar disdain for other multilateral institutions, including the International Criminal Court. A divisive appointmentThe US Vice President Mike Pence has described Bolton as a "highly respected American patriot." "With him as Nat Sec Adv, @POTUS will continue to keep America strong and secure."
Republican Senator Marco Rubio says Mr Bolton is "an excellent choice who will do a great job." But critics on the other side of politics have slammed the appointment. Democratic senator Bernie Sanders describes Mr Bolton as "too extreme to be confirmed as UN ambassador in 2005 and is absolutely the wrong person to be national security adviser now." Fellow Democrat Betty McCollum tweeted that Mr Bolton was a "discredited architect of the Iraq War" and his "appointment puts our national security at risk." Ordinary Americans too have derided President Trump's announcement. Many have referenced his 2013 tweet opposing the appointment of any former Bush administration officials. "Too bad DT doesn't agree with DT anymore," tweeted one. "You just hired someone who is likely to start another wasteful war!," tweeted another. "There really is a tweet for every occasion," said a third. |

Scott Pruitt's biggest lie blown wide open: He requested 24/7 security on his very first day
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/5/15/1764338/-Scott-Pruitt-s-biggest-lie-blown-wide-open-He-requested-24-7-security-on-his-very-first-day Scott Pruitt has one all-purpose excuse for his first-class flights, his 20-man security team, his taking over an entire floor of the EPA building, and his hiding of many facets of his schedule and activities: Threats. He’s claimed that he was subject to threats that were so bad, so “unprecedented” that it justified surrounding the EPA administrator with $3 million in personal security, taking military jets across the country, first-class flights around the world, and in every way making sure he never has to associate with the people who are paying his bills. Every last word of it has turned out to be a lie.
And now it’s absolutely clear: No one demanded Pruitt’s kid-glove treatment except Pruitt, and he made that demand from the moment he came in the door. In response to a letter sent by Democratic Senators Sheldon WhiteHouse and Thomas Carper, the inspector general gave the actual timing of Pruitt’s security and the actual origin of the request: Every last word of it has turned out to be a lie. is there even one single decent honest person in the Trump Cabinet ??? a fish rots from the head down |
