Read more at: NEW DELHI: Global deaths due to measles substantially dropped last year, yet the disease still continues to take the lives of nearly 100,000 people, according to a new report by leading health organisations. Around 2.9 million children in India still remain without vaccination against the disease, making it one of the top six countries adding to this burden. In 2016, global deaths from measles dropped over 80% to an estimated 90,000 people from more than 550,000 deaths in 2000, according to WHO, UNICEF, CDC and Gavi-The Vaccine Alliance. This marks the first time that global measles deaths have fallen below 100,000 per year, the organisations stated in a joint release.
