with the passage of the new tax bill
the individual mandate for Obamacare is gone you no longer will be penalized for not having health insurance (applies to 2018 and beyond) but now Trump owns the healthcare problem in this country Trump just told the truth. He may wish he hadn’t.https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/opinions/trump-just-told-the-truth-he-may-wish-he-hadnt/2017/12/20/26d8332a-e5de-11e7-833f-155031558ff4_story.html here is what is coming your way Premiums for the most popular health insurance on the individual market exchanges are estimated to rise 34 percent on average next year, according to the consulting firm Avalere Health, because of previous sabotage done by the Trump administration. Premiums in Iowa would be up 69 percent, Wyoming 65 percent and Utah 64 percent. ●Employer-based health insurance costs are forecast to rise in 2018 by the most since 2011, at 4.3 percent, according to the human resources consulting firm Mercer, and overall medical costs will be up 6.5 percent, the first increase in the rate in three years, according to the consulting firm PwC. Assuming those increases are passed along to workers, they would eat up half of the $910 tax cut received next year by households with income between $55,000 and $93,000 and all of the tax cut received by households earning $27,000 to $54,000. and enjoy your pittance of a tax cut cause apparently a BIG chunk of it is gonna go bye bye poor Iowa,Wyoming and Utah they went Trump and now its time to pay the piper and lets not forget the additional 13 MILLION people who will lose their health insurance Obamacare had a LOT of VERY serious problems but ya ain't seen nothing yet be afraid BE VERY AFRAID |

Satori,
The reason we see the increased number of American's becoming, or never insured, is because of the insurance premiums being too high in price. Even with the government subsidies there to help, the financial burden is too much for the average American to bear. I have never seen an insurance company go broke. Diligent |

It is the health insurance companies that set the premium rates.
There is some Federal and State oversight regarding this process. For example : accepting pre-existing conditions. There are 5 criteria that the actuaries look at yearly now when establishing premium rates. 1.) Age 2.) Location 3.) Tobacco Use 4.) Individual vs. Family Coverage 5.) Plan Catagories - Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Catastrophic Plans Medicaid and Medicare are mandated differently, primarily based on Age and Income Levels. Since the country went with an in essence, a socialized medicine program, premium rates have sky-rocketed. Personally, I want everyone covered, and receive the health care they need. This can be accomplished, but the cost's are staggeringly high. Diligent |

Speaking as a Brit - who has automatic full care - I know that not only can it be done, but it can be done far cheaper.
Supermarket food is cheaper than that sold by private shops; not because the supermarkets are nice, but because they can bargain the price right down from the supplier - as they are such a huge bulk customer. Our country does the same for its NHS. America is far larger than the UK. Its bargaining power could be huge by comparison and the per capita costs even smaller if it had the will to try. As for Trump; yes, he should be condemmed for his Trumpcare excuse for a system, but in his defence, that which he alowed to fail was only margainally better. |

I don't get it either, Carbon.
Speaking as a middleof-the-road floating-voter I have to point out that the rich suffer as a result too. More disease circulates; as the poor, having no effective cover, become superspreaders, the insurance costs soar; as there are no brakes and the best cover of all has built-in celings. In the end society picks up an even larger bill, but has less to show for it. Worse, the economic pressure to hold on to a job with health benefits makes wage-slves out of all but the richest and can even divide famlies. Your life-expectancy and mine are longer than an American's despite their aparently rich economy. It seems to me that the horror of possibly funding some freeloader outweighs the advantages of stress reduced longer lifespans, smaller bills and a sense of having "done the right thing". Yep! I completely fail to get it too. You and I must be stupid, well someone is. |

Please folks, never doubt the resolve and the will or the generosity of the American people.
Especially to those who are less fortunate, and need a helping hand. This is self evident, and has held to be true, over and again. American's know this to be true and it is the nature of American's to help and protect those in need or danger. D. |

Then why not each other? Americans I have met have almost always been kind and generous - in the small personal things - even down to their last penny. Yet your system is cruel and uncaring on a larger public scale. That appears self-evident to non-Americans.
So, do you have to see the person you help so you can get the kudos, or do you want to vet them for worthiness first? That is not charity, Christianity or love; it is "face". |

Hubby (WillobyBrat) asked me to point out that New Zealand had a healthcare system first. Not bad for a country with only 1m people at the time.
They built an army to protect their people first and ports for transport for the people, then a national health service; before even Britain had got theirs going. But, what the heck, you expect that from a country where God lives. Tee Hee........... |

No Technophobe, American's do not have to see someone to help when needed.
Additionally, American's are not looking for kudo's. Further, America is predominately a Christian nation. Though everyone is welcome, no matter their belief's. D. |

So, why not everyone? From outside the USA his looks both cold and barbaric. I envy several parts of your culture and like many Americans but would never live anywhere so cruel. That is what the lack of total healthcare in a rich country is, cruel and greedy.
Anyone can say they care, anyone can claim to be Christian. I see proof of the opposite where healthcare is concerned. Even the poorest person is still God's creature. They feel. They matter. Why not care for them en-masse? |
