With the latest  CDC Weekly US Influenza report I notice that at 172 pediatric deaths from flu this is the second most deadly year for children in the US since mandatory reporting started in the 2003-04 season.

Statistically this is within the range for normal distribution (ie covers 95% of the occurrences), so we might not be able to read too much into the figures, which will probably increase a little more as reporting can often be very late.

The figures are similar to 2012-13 (171 pediatric deaths), but still far short of the record year of 2009-10 when there were 288 pediatric deaths.
