The flu is not gone and the last report from CDC in New York shows it still widespread. A large number of people I know have it and are fighting it and it has now been reporting a record number of deaths in children, the only way they even count them. This is not old news - this is a buried news blackout almost as bad as coverage on the volcano in Hawaii which is still bad.
We have been some swamped with the neverending drama of other topics is the now discredited mainstream, this outbreak - outbreaks are unreported. A number of news post on youtube were blocked discussing a super flu yesterday. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/child-flu-deaths-his-record-high-2017-2018-n881381 A record number of children died from influenza this past flu season, federal health officials said Friday. One more death was reported this week, making 172 child deaths reported for the 2017-18 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. “This “Approximately 80 percent of these deaths occurred in children who had not received a flu vaccination this season.” comment: the flu vaccine was not that effective - maybe 15% and yes -you guessed it - I have it again. This is some type of stomach and respiratory thing which just won't go away.About half the children who died had another health condition, but It’s not clear why this past influenza season was so Medclinician |

Updated information on African swine fever was also presented at the meeting. Since the beginning of June, the disease has reached Tulcea, Romania, 160 km away from the Bulgarian border. Preventive measures are being taken, such as reduction in wild boar population, enhanced control and sample testing. Hunters are being trained to recognise the symptoms of African swine fever. comment: Is Swine Flu about to hit America again - a new highly pathogenic form? Forget the mainstream media. They are clueless. We do not have real news anymore nor is anyone really concerned with the possibility of a bio-attack on the U.S. A lot of smiling faces at the summit and yet - didn't Hitler smile as they were about to invade Poland. What better coverup than to make peace while at the same time launching a bioweapon attack on the U.S. which could wipe out most of our population. They sit back and watch. Really - don't you think things are just - too good to be true. They hate America. Both North Korea and Iran hate America and still have active bioweapon research and weapons. Wake up and smell the coffee. Medclinician |

I was going to say that the above was not true, but then saw the conditionals added (marked in red), to make a true but, in my opinion, a misleading statement. In the 2009-10 season there were 288 pediatric deaths attributed to flu. The 2012-2013 season had 171 deaths. It is still a high number representing lots of hurting families.

If you will search this post - it is one of the highest on Google. I still am getting reports from a growing number of people of some kind of stomach flu with a cough and sore throat that is is infection people and making many ill.
I have this today and in Monterey, California I haven not hear a police siren, an ambulance, or seen but one person walking their dog or out (and we have a lot on this block) in a week. It is like a cemetery here. In all the OpenSim - where people meet an gather on the net as Avatars - the numbers of people on line are scant as we approach a weekend. The is some sort of news blackout. I have searched on classic names like my "rival" Avian Flu Diary who stole my name I had up for years and there is nothing posted since May. There is nothing at CIDRAP or WHO and they aren't even keeping up on the Ebola outbreak in Africa. More people are getting it. We are not prepared for a major flu Pandemic and currently in the labs they are making highly virulent bugs which even more punch that what is out there. We started this flu season with a bang in January and it continued to get worse. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/26/health/flu-rates-deaths.html So, I will continue to post on this U.S. Flu Outbreak Continues June 2018 - Avian Flu TalkThe flu is not gone and the last report from CDC in New York shows it still widespread. A large number... Kids are home for the summer which mean we stop getting reports of schools shut down. There is no reason to stop monitoring the flu in May and stop the weekly maps when it continues to be a problem. Also, we hardly even track Norovirus which is now year-round. It's not over. I know people who are really ill and fighting it off. The Real News here and and CWN for people who want to know what is really happening in the world and not controlled by main stream media and special interest groups. Medclinician |

Across the net groups are forming to help estimate current flu outbreaks based on logged reports from users. We cannot count on or rely on accurate numbers from our health agencies for good health care or for accurate flu reporting. There is really no effective plan in place to handle a Pandemic or epidemic flu in the United States. When things get the worse - people are told to SIP - stay home and not block the ERs when the current yearly vaccine is not effective i.e. 10% for some flu types in 2017-2018 made with process (eggs) that encourage the flu strains to mutate. In fact, on the underground it has been stated that the U.S. would actually benefit from a large scale death of the elderly and disabled from a widespread illness. Are we who are elderly considered a growing problem for the health care system? https://www.census.gov/population/socdemo/statbriefs/agebrief.html I think we are. We are approaching a Logan's Run mentality where everyone reaching 30 was killed in terms of a less aggressive approach to preventing and curing flu and finding vaccines and anything that will keep people on social security longer than they are paying into it and want to collect it. I was told years ago that overall if there was a Pandemic we would not see any effective care in place and all the hospitals would shut down and the government would go underground to wait it out - especially President and Vice-President and Congress to a hotel in West Virginia where there are now (recently fixed and made ready) places for them to continue to survive. https://www.npr.org/2011/03/26/134379296/the-secret-bunker-congress-never-used I have been here and talked to contractors who were fixing it up for future use. It still is more than ready. So we await Disease X https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/disease-x-world-health-organisation-issues-global-alert-for-potential-pandemic/news-story/8aca8d48b253da7c164784967a6ed174 News Corp Australia Network March 11, 2018 8:06am Medclinician |

I suspect that the local sniffles hype is just that - hype, with a left over worry from the nasty season just passed. BUT I could not agree with you more that we are not prepared. As
far as disposal of people over a certain age is concerned: I know that
my own government has (or at least has had) plans in place 'post
apocalypse' to work those above breeding age to death as the only way to
save the young. Horrible in the extreme - but understandable. I would
be amazed if any other western country did not have similar plans. But
that is a long, long way from the current approach over here. We still
value human life above all else. Those plans were "POST
APOCALYPSE" only. |

I was on a cruise from NYC to Bermuda on 5/24 - 6/3. On Tuesday, I woke up and my uvula was swollen (weird, right?) I sneezed a few times that day and by that evening I started coughing. By Thursday I was coughing terribly and gave our excursion tickets to my nephew and his friend (no way I could hike through the rainforest or explore caves). My chest was wheezy and my cough was terrible - loud and barking and prolonged. Friday night I coughed and coughed and vomited and coughed and vomited. I think I had a fever throughout this time but didn't have a thermometer. I took OTC Advil, Tylenol and cough meds and pretty much stayed in our cabin. A few days after returning home, I was having one of the random coughing fits (I felt better overall - just kind of worn out and still had the random coughing fits) and felt something sort of 'pop' in my right side like under the bra strap. I don't think my ribs were broken - maybe separated? Anyway...long post to say that yeah...something is definitely still going around. Was it the flu? Maybe, maybe not. I didn't have all traditional symptoms like the body aches. And if I had a fever it was rather low grade and intermittent.
The cough is much better (although still there) and the ribs are feeling better too. Whatever it was, the cough was terrible! |

There are lots of nasty bugs which circulate all year*, many of which mimic the flu in one or all symptoms. Each tiny area of the planet also has its own specifically-local nasties. Trips abroad and cruises are a great way to pick these up. Believe it or not, the commonest cause of uvulitis is dehydration The violent cough you had, LC, probably damaged either the intercostal (between the ribs) muscles or cartilage. This is painful and slow to heal, but happily, not serious. A cough as bad as that is considered serious though. I am glad you are on the mend from it. Get fully well soon. *Respratory synctal virus RSV for example, a common but nasty bug that can, like flu, even lead to pneumonia. Whooping cough is another. Even measles can produce this set of symptoms, although that is unusual. Then there are the gastric diseases - UGH! Just tto add to the list of potential causes, the vomiting can cause the cough and the cough can cause the vomiting as they share many nerves - a fact which is exploited by some expectorant medicines - which themselves can lead to nausea as a side effect. |

I do not go to southern places anymore because too many nasty things to get one sick. I am including southern U.S. as well. I use to live in Florida and was sick all the time. Too many bugs, too many reptiles, too many germs that live a long time due to moisture and heat.

GermTrax 7/9/2018 as of now. Green is stomach flu outbreak. Look at the East Coast - especially in New York - Texas - California - Florida. There is also something really bad in Australia brewing. I am covering that on another thread. The outbreak continues and there is almost nothing on the net - at CDC - or mainstream about it. The flu continues - with outbreaks at several gatherings in Pennsylvania with nearly everyone there sick. I still have it. It is likely still widespread in New York and it keeps coming back. 3 actors died and many more have been dying. I am trying to track this on a user setup call in site to get some numbers. Oh hey, stumbled across your site trying to figure out if there is any kind of flu outbreak up in new England or maine currently 08.30.18. I picked up some kind of flue like virus a week ago, like none I've had before. Instead of hot/cold chills and upset stomach I've been sneezing, sinus's going non stop and experiencing high fever and disorientation. Feels like the flu, but very unusual. Hopefully I'll kick this thing soon, as I'm a pretty healthy person. JLC.

A couple of months ago I posted on here about the terrible cold / flu illness that's done the rounds here in New Zealand this last winter. Today is the first day of Spring here, and it's still around.
The illness starts with a headache, and body aches and a two day day fever, and at the same time, runny nose, blocked sinuses, sore throat and then the cough starts. It's a very deep cough, very productive. We've all had it, and strangely one of my children avoided it, despite the rest of us having it, only to come down with it just as we were recovering. The cough lasts 6 weeks, as I was told by our doctor, so all up we were ill for 8 weeks each. My son is just entering week 6 of the cough, and he also has sprained his intercostal muscles so every cough is painful. This has been the worse cold we've ever seen here. I would recommend you all stock up on Mucinex, as this was really useful to break up the phlegm in the lungs. The pharmacist told be to be sure that the cough syrup I bought wasn't one that suppresses a cough, as this would make it worse. I ended up on antibiotics, as the cold developed into a sinus infection, but was also sent for a lung xray as my cough was so deep the doctor wanted to check for bronchitis or pneumonia (I can remember which). We used a lot of iodine gargle, expectorant cough syrup, paracetamol, vicks vapour rub and mucinex - and tissues - loads of tissues. |

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.
