I can't help but wonder if the airline is causing this; by turning up the air-con, so everyone feels feverish, or changing part of their emergency instructions, so the idea of infectious illness is "implanted" or some similar pocedural change that makes passengers feel ill.

This does look now like "mass hysteria", even though the first flight into JFK did have genuine flu sufferers aboard.

I could be wrong and some mystery plague may be brewing in our skies, but the balance of data suggests it is in the mind, not the sky.

I tend to agree techno. The fact that two planes, both same airline (American Airlines), and both landing at same airport, tells us that American Airlines sent out a memo spreading fear of some sort, and the airline is getting overly cautious. Two planes from same airline landing at same airport is a little suspect.

On the other hand, maybe the airline has the inside scoop on a contagious new flu emerging and they are being extra vigilant.

They diagnosed it.   It's Sick Plane Syndrome, lol.

Sick plane syndrome: More flights from Middle East arrive with ill passengers

Twelve passengers arriving in Philadelphia from Saudi Arabia, where it's believed they had celebrated Hajj, were referred to medical professionals after exhibiting flu-like symptoms on their flight, officials said.
It was the second day in a row at a Mid-Atlantic airport that arriving passengers from the Middle East exhibited indications of illness.

On Wednesday a massive Emirates Airbus 380 that had arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport from Dubai was moved to an isolated location so passengers, including rapper Vanilla Ice, could be screened.

In the end, 19 passengers and crew members in New York reported feeling ill, but only 10 were hospitalized. The rapper was not one of them.
Diane Gerace, a spokeswoman for Philadelphia International Airport, said in a statement that all passengers on two American Airlines flights Thursday "were held for medical review ... as a precaution."

Twelve passengers were ultimately checked out and were subsequently released on-site, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection said via email.

The Philadelphia flights targeted by medical professionals Thursday included American Airlines flight 755 from Paris and, subsequently, American Airlines flight 717 from Munich, although passengers on both originated in Saudi Arabia and were believed to have been in Mecca for the Hajj, or annual Islamic pilgrimage, according to a CBP statement.

Gerace said both flights had about 250 passengers and crew combined. All passengers on the Paris flight were initially separated, according to the CBP, but the passengers on the Munich flight, which arrived as travelers from the first plane were being screened, did not have to be cordoned off.
