Hi,
Has anyone ever used "waterless" or "no rinse" shampoos or body washes? I had a friend who cared for her elderly grandmother and I remembered her mentioning that product a couple of years ago. I never asked if it was effective. I thought it might be an interesting alternative to not washing my hair daily or using up my water to wash my hair. I just wonder if it leaves any kind of residue or if the hair feels greasy or sticky in any way?? Let me know if you or anyone you know has ever heard of it/used it! Millie A. Jackson |

We had some for camping, but don't think we ever used it. However, this morning I didn't have time to wash my hair before attending a convention and I sprinkled baby powder in it and then brushed it out. The baby powder absorbed some oil and made my hair "last" longer... Libby

These products were used on me when I was bed ridden...they aren't something I would recommend beyond one, in-between, normal shampoo. BTW, baby powder is as effective IMO. IF pandemic hits I am going to shave my head. No joke. I have already planned it and I have long hair. No worries about keeping it up or clean. No worry about virus parking itself on my hair. No worry about maintaining it if I am one of the unlucky ones infected. It just seems like the best solution to me. I am not a vain person & don't plan on being out in public anyway so what's the dif? |

I heard that waterless soap is highly recommended for this situation, although I don't have any.

Millie....the
baby powder does work. My husband was in traction in the
hospital for three months years ago and that is what I used on his
hair.
I bought a large bag of baby wipes today....they will come in handy if you can't bathe. I saw a camping shower at KMart that I am considering buying. I think it was around $16.00. I could never go days without showing. UGH! |

I totally agree! I can't imagine not showing for days at a time. I may
have to look into getting a camping shower. Baby wipes are a good
idea too.

Ooh Rah Master Chief! While I certainly don't look like Demi I did my stint in a "man's world". It takes steel in the back bone, clear vision, & the determination to do what has to be done. The very things I plan to use to tackle AI with no intent to fail. |

Sophie! What about going with a full mohawK? I like the way you think. I might go with full war paint like on Predator. |

I thought I was the only one with the shaving of the head idea! I too have long hair and as much as I love it, I will shave my head as bald as a cue ball! I will do whatever it takes to beat Bird Flu, ( and Cooties!)

I have used the baby powder trick but it only last for a day or so then you really neded to wash your hair. I plan on a baby wipes daily plus rain water for washing my hair. I will use a large tarpe for water collection over a large garbage can |

I have gotten 5 cases of babywipes. I have a 17 month old little girl and we use them for everything. Babywipes will store better then TP and they always stay wet if they are closed up good. So, I could use them to wash off, wash hands, clean up spills and even in the bathroom.

Don't spend $$ on baby wipes. Do this instead. Cut a roll of paper towels in half. Put the half roll in a zip-lock plastic bag. Add a little baby shampoo (or baby wash) and a little baby oil. It's the same as baby wipes but whole lot cheaper.

I better stock up on some more baby wipes. I can't rely on rain water here in OK, we have had rain once (not a measureable amount even) in the past 100+ days.

They have a new scott towel out and they are half the size of the ones you pull off a normal roll and not a bad price..I found this out when I bought the wrong kind..but glad I found them... I have 36 tubes of toothepaste and several spare tooth brushes..I have also stocked up on soap about 50 bars so far..tons of laundry detergent..and baby powder..I really have to get some shampoo...I have some but not as much as what i would like... |

You would be surprised as to how good you would feel just doing a ptaf bath! Peri/torso/armpit/foot bath! was sometimes forced to do that with just a wet wash cloth and 1/2 quart of water, to divide between teeth and that. it can be quite effective! And you can go as long as a week without washing your hair...but reccomend that hair be cut very short just for that purpose!. As for Mee I will have to cut my hair (Which is down past my hips to do it...but hey...it will grow back!. I suggest that you invest in some good barber sissors purchased at your local beauty supply, they will be worth their weight in gold! Trust me on that one! And yes baby powder, corn starch, or dry shampoo does work...just more effictive on short hair as it takes less to use! Meewee

As I've stated before.... IF pandemic hits.... I'm going to shave my head. I also have long hair, but not as long as yours meewee, and I decided a few months back that it would just be sooooo much easier that way.

A bathing tip if you are near salt water from a cruising sailor.
Bar soap gums up in salt water. Cheap shampoo works real well. If you are forced to do a saltwater bath, go with the shampoo. |

Go the number 3 - less hair maintenence whilst still leaving a little protection for the scalp.
Whilst this might sound a little odd - I stopped using soap a couple of years back (including soap alternatives). I opt for hot water and a very stiff sponge and a very good scrub. Two weeks after I gave the soap away my skin felt better than it had in years - my acne was gone and the awful summer body odor was no more. I still use shampoo for the hair. When you are without much water - The "Mandi" (Bucket shower) is probably the best wey to go - however lathering up requires a great deal more water to get rid of the soap. Shower with a friend |

We like Dr. Bronner's liquid soap in our house. I buy the gallon size and then mix it 1 part soap to 2 parts water and it goes a long way. I can dilute it alot more if need be and for easy rinsing. It says on the bottle that you can wash your hair with it too. I just picked up 2 gallons I had ordered by phone. Since I had the store order it I didn't have to pay for s&h as I would if I had ordered it myself online. :>}
