Crude oil prices have risen on news that Iran successfully test-fired long and medium-range missiles.

In London, Brent crude rose by over a dollar to $137.45 a barrel, while US light, sweet crude rose by 92 cents to $136.92 a barrel.

The US dollar also dipped after the tests fuelled worries about geopolitical tensions.

Iran's state media reported that nine missiles were tested, including one Tehran has said could reach Israel.

Crude prices are still below the record price of almost $147 a barrel set in London last week.

This is just temporary it price will keep going up. T Boone Pickens is right when he said that the Arabs said they would pump 200,000 more barrels a day tells him they can't pump more.

Let us face it folks some day we will be out of oil. T Boone says we need to go to natural gas which America has lots of and wind power. I know we have lots of wind out west and on the coasts.   T Boone is putting his money into both of these. This man does not need more money he is really trying to give us a solution.

We should listen!

We are in the process of building, very slow process, LOL. I was checking on a wind turbine hooked to the grid, $40,000 plus! Is there a cheaper direction we could take, now is the right time to incorporate it, we pour concrete today! Please let us know, thanks.

The government is going to have to get serious with some tax credits for consumers if they want us to turn to alternative energy. I would LOVE to go the alternative energy route solar/wind power and we live in the perfect place, BUT it would cost us about $10,000 to convert our house over and the government would give us a whole $2000 tax credit (only through the end of this year by the way after that there isn't any unless they come up with something else). We cannot afford to make the switch and we are better off finacially that alot of others, so I know there are many others that couldn't afford it either. We currently heat with natural gas, which has continually gone higher every year, I cringe at the thought of what the price will be this fall. Our central heat/AC unit went out last night the repair guy can't come to look at it until Monday, the unit is about 30 year old, so I am thinking it is gone (of course I have thought that each year for the past 9 years when we have had to have it serviced every year). If it has to be replaced, I will seriously research my options at this point. We have a large window unit that cools half the house comfortably and will buy another small one and it doesn't get cold enough for heat until about November, so I have some time to decide.

I would put in Solar and wind also but like you Penham it is not cost effective. Too long a payout and by the time you pay it off it will need to be replaced.

No one can go to solar or wind unless like you say the Government gives us better incentives!

We are lucky replaced our 30 yr old heat unit 5 years ago glad we did it!
I also put in a wood insert and it saved us last year and it will save us even more this year!

Gas here went up to $3.95 a gallon, but today I went to fill up and it was down to $3.89 a gallon. I was shocked to see it had gone down a few cents from yesterday.

The barrels of oil are continuing to drop in price, but the price at the pumps are no longer dropping. When the price of oil was rising, the price at the pumps were rising within 24 hours, seems as though it would be the same going down, but it's not. We have been stick at the same price at the pumps for about 2 weeks as the price of oil continues to drop.

Once the price of gas dropped down to $4.20 in California, I bought a Hummer.   I wanted to get the best possible deal so I had to wait until SUV dealers were desperate enough.  Of course the first place I went was over to GM.   If you buy an SUV or a house, you need to buy on the dip.  The final housing plunge will probably take place in 6- 12 months.

"Georgian conflict could affect oil prices in the West.

The dispute in Gorgia could have global repercussions,
particularly on oil prices.
What has set international alarm bells ringing, is the
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline, which pumps oil from the Caspian.
It runs close to the Georgian Capital, then into Southern Turkey,
where it is shipped onto Europe and the West."

The Pipeline War: Russian bear goes for West's jugular

The war in Georgia escalated dangerously last night after Russian jets reportedly bombed a vital pipeline that supplies oil to the West.

After a day of heightening international tensions, Georgian leaders claimed that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which transports oil from the Caspian Sea to Turkey, had been attacked. But it is thought the bombs missed their target.

Their claims came after Russian jets struck deep into the territory of its tiny neighbour, killing civilians and ‘completely devastating’ the strategic Black Sea port of Poti, a staging post for oil and other energy supplies.

Reports last night also said that Russia had bombed the international airport in Tbilisi.

Our gas is down to $1.83 a gallon.  I have decided NOT to change my driving habits, to continue to do all errands on the way to and from work and not making any extra trips, basically treat the gas as if it cost almost $4 a gallon, I figured we are already in that gas saving mode, we might as well continue, no reason to change just because the gas is cheaper again.

That's why I don't mind all of the OT topics on such important parts of history.  From the election, to a recession, to Wall Street faltering, and to the avian flu threat of course, we've been tracking all topics in great detail.  Someday, a long time down the road from now, there might be interest in reviewing these threads for first hand accounts of "the times".    Of course, some of our presidential debate threads may not look so good.  Wink

Down to $1.45 here in OK today. However, our gas station (we only have one in our small town) was out of super unleaded gas. To me this is a bit scarey, as this particular gas station has NEVER been out of gas. We don't use super unleaded, but it made me think twice about not filling up, I have been only putting $10 in at a time right now because every few days the price keeps going down. I decided to go ahead and fill up, until the prices started dropping I had always kept at least half a tank of gas. We only have one gas station in our town, the next closest station is 5 miles away.
