I saw a game on another topic here that was Answers and then a question..
Ex:  1 hour of heavy rain on a 1000 square ft house will yield 100 gallons of water.

Now my Question:  How long can the bird flu last on a surface?

The next person would answer than question and then ask another question.

I got a lot of great information reading that topic of what others are doing.

I want to play a tidbit game:  Ex:  Did you know...

ketchup and mustard does not have to be refrigerated when open...Keep in a cool place.

The next person give a another helpful tidbit of information

Happy, Good idea to get lots of quick simple hints out there.

Milk jugs are biodegradable. This means they fall apart in a while. Two liter soda containers are recommended for storage of water. You should add some bleach.  Apparently anything that is made to hold Coke won't biodegrade for a long, long time.  Make sure to fill the soda bottles to the very top to keep out air.

Solar yard lites can be used indoors for light in a pinch.Put a mirror behind it for added reflection. They are also good for keeping rechargable AA charged
for small radios, kids games or whatever else.

A cup of peanut butter, a cup of dry milk, and 2-3T. of honey, mixed together makes great peanut butter balls for a snack! (I know this is a bit different from other posts here, but my daughter just made another batch of these and they're great!). Refridgerate if they last long enough. Lots of protein.

Vinegar makes an EXCELLENT cold water rinse for clothing.

Just rinse clothing in dilute vinegar (2-3T per 1/2 gallon rinse water)

Helps clothing stay soft when line drying...removes odors and mildew...

This tid-bit game is fun....pass it on!

hi to all, don't buy water to store long term in those plastic milk jug containers. they biodegrade and will leak water everywhere, I know , used what was left to water the garden.the stronger plastic bottles  can be reused in rotation, or can be stored empty for future use. also I save empty Folger coffee containers, they are plastic now, and reuseable, heavry enough to freeze in.why pay for new containers, recycle what you have for free. roxy

One way to make water drinkable. For Pool, roof, Pond ect.

Let all the sediments settle and poor into a coffee filter or paper Need to finish draftel.

Boil water for 10 minutes (must be rolling boil with big bubbles). Let cool.

Boil water will taste better if you put the oxygen back into the water. Pour the water back and forth into two clean containers.  This will improve on the stored waters taste.

If your going to freeze meat...flatten your chopped meat in a ziplock or airtight bag....You will fit more into your freezer.  It should look like a retangle no higher that 3 inches tall.

This idea was posted awhile ago...I just thought it was brilliant...it had never occurred to me...lol....

..when the temp drops...pop a tent in your living room (not the kind that requires the stakes..;)  it will hold the heat in while you sleep.

We tried this...just to see if it would fit....and how many of us it would hold...lol....it was cozy....actually a bit TOO cozy for me ( I didn't last a 1/2 hour....but my children thought it was great fun.)

Hi Happycamper, I actually have some scones stored in my shed.  I'm glad I didn't give them away or sell them.  Thanks for the idea.

your welcome

Treat your water

Your house hold chlorine bleach that has 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite (Clorox ). Do not use any scented bleach!

16 drops of bleach will treat one gallon of water.

Bleach loses it strength with time....Bleach that's been sitting on a shelf for 1 year is only 50% effective.

There is extra water in your hot Water tank, your Pipes and Expansion tank, Ice cubes and if need be you can use the water in your reservior tank of your toilet...Not the bowl.

1. To use the water in your pipes, let air into the plumbing by turning on the faucet in your house at the highest level.  A small amount of water will trickle out.  Then obtain water from the lowest faucet in the house.

2. To use the water in your hotwater tank, be sure the electricity or gas is off, and open the drain at the bottom of the tank.  Start the water flowing by turning off the water intake valve and turning on a hot-water faucet.
Do not turn on the gas or electricity when the tank is empty.

Heat large stones next to fireplace and put in bed near your feet to keep warm in winter.

When 'bathing' with bottled water, put it outside in sun for a few hours to warm it up.

Option for light is Solar power Landscaping Lights.   Put them in the yard and when the power goes out relocate them in the house....When the sun come out again...Out they go for recharging.

did you know you can recharge AA batteries in a solar  light.

Did not know that about solar lights Happy Camper. I think I'll make a trip to Home Depot today for some.

Seeds!! Get some!  -  Just a little info I received from the company I bought my non hybrid seeds from.

What makes open-pollinated seed superior to hybrids is that you can save the seed you produce in your garden, generation after generation, and they'll breed true and actually acclimate over time to your specific conditions. Hybrids are deliberate crosses from inbred lines and don't breed true. Plants from their seed are frequently inferior. (I should note however that quite a few varieties started as seed saved from a hybrid, and were kept long enough that the variety "stabilized." However this is hit-or-miss and not to be recommended if you are needing to eat from your garden!) There are lots of details about seed saving that you should learn, however, if you anticipate saving seed in order to survive. None of it is absolutely necessary however; our ancestors saved seed succesfully for generations with no scientific knowledge whatsoever. But more knowledge does help.
