Yeah, I don't see why carry laws are even disputed. You're much less likely to mess around with someone if you suspect he might have a gun on him.
I do however, like that law they're passing through that sends an automated list of people who shouldn't own firearms (ie. psychos, child molestors, rapists, etc.) to firearms dealers. That's about the only form of gun control I agree with. Keep them far away from felons and mentally unstable people, let everyone else over the age of 18 have one. Oh, and trigger locks *rolls eyes*....those too...lmao.
Our local chief sherriff for a long time was a friend of my mother, and he was pushing hard for the castle doctrine. He's a great man. Honest as hell, and stands for what he believes in. He was a republican, but he wasn't afraid to stand up and say that he thought keeping Terri Schaivo on life support was wrong. He wasn't afraid to say he was for letting people shoot violent criminals that come on their property to harm them, in a city full of liberals who are still having acid flashbacks...haha. We were very lucky to have him around...It's rare you find a politically appointed man, willing to say what he means and mean what he says.

And, anyone interested in Nitroglycerine will find a way. You are right, it's not that hard to make. I don't think it should deter anyone from making biofuel. It's cheap to make, efficient (a solvent that actually cleans all of the gunk out of the engine), and it's environmentally sound. Can't argue with that...

I agree with the fact that it's not your job to enforce taxes. I think they force the police force to focus on some pretty ridiculous things, sometimes, when they could be out catching, condemning, and prosecuting criminals...real criminals. Not kids, skateboarding at the post office after hours, not people jay walking, and certainly not people sneaking red diesel in their trucks...hehe.

" Have *YOU* checked the crime rate lately??? As a real live police officer I'm acutely aware that the crime rates in Northern cities is ten times what it is in Southern ones "

Hey turby guy,  pants on fire,  I posted some FBI crime stats here only
a few weeks ago.   You know they showed that crime rates in the
south were at least twice the crime rates in the north.

Do you want me to post the crime rates,  north vs south, again ?

I read that most crime in the US is perpetrated by minorities - especially blacks.

Certainly it appears that way on Cops

OK,  I give up,  where did you read this ????

Wanna go through some of the most hidious crimes in American
history and determine if the "perps" were white or black ???

I'm game..............

We can start with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre
and the Oklahoma city bombing,
and the Gronie rape and murder case in Idaho,
and the Son of Sam murders,
and some of the other most celebrated, hidious crimes in
US history.

Let me know where you want to start............

Maybe,  maybe not.   All I know is that the violent crime rates of
the south is twice what it is in the north.

That may be because the south has twice as many blacks as the north
has,  maybe not.

Yet,  that still does not excuse white crime,  which is very violent
in the south.

my point is that drug crime and homicide in the US is blacks killing blacks over drug turf

the blacks in america is 10% of the population but 50% of the prison population

crime is crime and serial killing is very rare 99.999% of homicide is domestic violence - find a body look for the spouse

Nearly all the following figures, which speak for themselves, have not been reported in America:

* According to the latest US Department of Justice survey of crime victims, more than 6.6 million violent crimes (murder, rape, assault and robbery) are committed in the US each year, of which about 20 per cent, or 1.3 million, are inter-racial crimes.

* Most victims of race crime - about 90 per cent - are white, according to the survey "Highlights From 20 Years of Surveying Crime Victims," published in 1993.

* Almost 1 million white Americans were murdered, robbed, assaulted or raped by black Americans in 1992, compared with about 132,000 blacks who were murdered, robbed, assaulted or raped by whites, according to the same survey.

* Blacks thus committed 7.5 times more violent inter-racial crimes than whites even though the black population is only one-seventh the size of the white population. When these figures are adjusted on a per capita basis, they reveal an extraordinary disparity: blacks are committing more than 50 times the violent racial crimes of whites.

* According to the latest annual report on murder by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, most inter-racial murders involve black assailants and white victims, with blacks murdering whites at 18 times the rate that whites murder blacks.

These breathtaking disparities began to emerge in the mid-1960s, when there was a sharp increase in black crime against whites, an upsurge which, not co-incidentally, corresponds exactly with the beginning of the modern civil rights movement.

Over time, the cumulative effect has been staggering. Justice Department and FBI statistics indicate that between 1964 and 1994 more than 25 million violent inter-racial crimes were committed, overwhelmingly involving black offenders and white victims, and more than 45,000 people were killed in inter-racial murders. By comparison, 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam, and 34,000 were killed in the Korean War.

When non-violent crimes (burglary, larceny, car theft and personal theft) are included, the cumulative totals become prodigious. The Bureau of Justice Statistics says 27 million non-violent crimes were committed in the US in 1992, and the survey found that 31 per cent of the robberies involved black offenders and white victims (while only 2 per cent in the reverse).

When all the crime figures are calculated, it appears that black Americans have committed at least 170 million crimes against white Americans in the past 30 years. It is the great defining disaster of American life and American ideals since World War II.

All these are facts, yet by simply writing this story, by assembling the facts in this way, I would be deemed a racist by the American news media. It prefers to maintain a paternalistic double standard in its coverage of black America, a lower standard."

No it's not that I forgot, I simply do my best to ignore pretty much anything you have to say. Typically it's little more than your personal little issue with the war in Iraq, or horribly sexist, holier than thou insults. Need I repost my personal favorite quotation of yours? I think so:

Quote You are so full of Siht it is almost pathetic.    AAMOF,   you are
a worthless human female piece of southern ****.

Ahhhh much better. You're pathetic Diode. You are now trying to dodge the numerous questions I've addressed to you, particularly your rampant sexist nature, personified by the quote above.

If you want to cite major crimes, well, let's take a quick look at Washington DC (The world's murder capitol) Chicago IL, hell the entire STATE of Illinois, New York city, Gary Indiana, East St. Louis, Kansas city, etc. Then what about the school shootings in Red Lake MN, Columbine CO? The Son of Sam mureders you posted yourself were in NY. What about the Washington DC shooters? Take a quick look at all the level 3 sex offenders in Northern cities VS Southern ones.

Further it really depends on where you draw the line delineating north vs south. Northern people would draw the line of N v S at the Iowa border, while Southerners would draw it about 1/4th of the way through Missouri, North of the Arkansas border. Chances are an ignoramous like yourself will undoubtably try to drawn the line somewhere near Fargo ND so you can point and say conclusively that the North is statistically safer than the South.

Further you're not taking into account the monetary dichotomy between rich vs poor, nor are you accounting for the fact that southern crimes are predominantly more property, while northern crimes are more aggrivated.

Shouldn't you be off perpetrating some form of violence against a female? Considering you hate them so much...

I think you are using this excuse to pretty much ignore the facts.

The facts are that the south, no matter how you define it,  is far more
violent than the north.    Thats a fact,  Mr  pants on fire.

As far as sexism is concerned,  I happen to be very Conservative when
it comes to male/female issues.   Like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich,
I believe that females are the property of men.  Yep,  thats right, they
are, according to the Cons in this country,  male property.

Rush Limbaugh is working on his fourth wife.    That is because his first
three wifes did not live up to his expectations.   So he threw them
out.     I am a good ole Conservative and believe the same.  I, as
a Conservative,  want my females to obey me,  no matter what.

So,  you are pretending to be a Conservative yet you argue liberal
principal.

Are your pants still on fire ?????

No, that's really not an excuse. Now that you've made your last post I have a feeling that far more people will begin to do the same, particularly the womenfolk. (Who happen to far outnumber the men on this site)

If the South is far more violent than the North is, (Which it's not) it's probably because of people just like you perpetrating violence against women. Are you afraid of something? Did a girl beat you up as a child? Do you have, certain... shortcomings that you're making up for?

Are you out of your mind!?! Conservatives don't believe that women are our property! Muslim extremists do! And particularly not Newt Gingrich. You sound like someone that beats their wife dude. Now that is a particularly troublesome problem in the South: Domestic violence. You talk mean about the South, but you act like the most bass ackwards hillbilly I've ever heard in my life! Hopefully someday they'll make a pill for people like you...

I have quite a lot of respect for Rush, but if he feels the way you do about women, are you sure it was he that threw them out and not the other way around?

You've absolutely piqued my interest. I absolutely have to keep this going now. Please, do tell more of your positions on women. I do think you're throwing out a nice fat Red Herring, and are actually a liberal that's just saying how you believe Conservatives think (Quite incorrectly I might add), I can't believe anyone, outside a fundamental Islamic prison country, talks the way you do. By all means, please continue!

And when you say, "...want my females to obey me, no matter what." This says that you've got multiple females. I am at an absolute loss as to how you can have even one female see anything in you by talking like that, though I seriously doubt that you've even seen a naked woman outside of porn.

Is your head still screwed on tight? Do your waves crash a little short of the beach? A few bats in the ol' belfrey? A couple fries short of a happy-meal? A few beers short of a six pack? You a calendar with empty squares? Is your clock missing some numbers? When you took a hit from the fountain of wisdom, did you only gargle? If your brains were made of dynamite would you have enough to blow your nose? If brains were taxed how much would your rebate be? Do I get change when I give you a penny for your thoughts?

But please, I absolutely *MUST* hear more from you on women's issues! By all means, please continue!

I believe TurboyGuy1 you missed a few descriptive phases.

Okay, so we hate blacks, women....anyone else? Goddamn. I know that the american black community has a crime epidemic on their hands. But, that might have something to do with the fact that we let idiots on tv, to tell young black (and white, and hispanic, and asian) children it's alright to be "hood as BLEEP", or sell drugs, so they can have the finer things in life. We know what advertising does to people...so putting...Little John and the Eastside Boys on TV doesn't really improve matters much. There are aspects of the black community I do not like, but I refuse to lump them all into one category. That's simply ignorance.
Turbo, don't respond to this idiot, he's clearly a dirty, dumb, liberal trying to "make a point". Either that, or he's just a twat. I'm a conservative, and I certainly don't believe in being someone's property. I believe in some semblance of gender roles. I believe that men are men and women are women...and women should not try to be men (or especially these days, men, women). But, I'd like to take the time to say that this guy needs to grow up, and get laid, because I imagine it's probably been a while....if ever.
He can think what he wants about women. If he or anyone like him puts their hands on me, they're getting a 12g slug moneyshot to the family jewels.
He's a few bananas short of a bunch...and most likely some smelly hippy piece of ****, trying his damndest to be profound.
Well you aren't profound, you tard.  You're just spewing worthless rhetoric, and you need to go sit at the kiddie table, if you can't behave with the adults.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Crash_of_1929

excerpt...

The crash followed a speculative boom that had taken hold in the late 1920s, which had led millions of Americans to invest heavily in the stock market, a significant number even borrowing money to buy more stock. By August 1929, brokers were routinely lending small investors more than 2/3 of the face value of the stocks they were buying. Over $8.5 billion was out on loan, more than the entire amount of currency circulating in the U.S.[7] The rising share prices encouraged more people to invest; people hoped the share prices would rise further. Speculation thus fueled further rises and created an economic bubble. The average P/E (price to earnings) ratio of S&P Composite stocks was 32.6 in September 1929 [8], clearly above historical norms.

On October 24, 1929 (with the Dow just past its September 3 peak of 381.17), the market finally turned down, and panic selling started. 12,894,650 shares were traded in a single day as people desperately tried to mitigate the situation. This mass sale was considered a major contributing factor to the Great Depression. Economists and historians, however, frequently differ in their views of the Crash's significance in this respect.

Some hold that political over-reactions to the crash, such as the passage of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act through the U.S. Congress, caused more harm than the Crash itself.

Hi, I really like your post. The real estate market in Southern California suffered from the same kind of "bubble," caused by the false inflation of the housing market brought on by mortgage brokers and their adjustable rate mortgage (ARM).

Including the 20 percent down payment in the cost of the home loans artificially inflated the real estate market. So far, it's down 35%.

People are now finding themselves upside down, with their mortgages far more than the actual value of their homes. Now it's a buyer's market, as people are desperately trying to sell as the market continues to plunge.

Open your eyes people!

Polly, in MN we haven't gotten that far yet, but we *ARE* getting there. Thankfully I've already paid off my mortgage on the house I bought. I have a fear that if I buy another property now, the value of homes will go down further and I too will be in the upside down mortgage scam, though I will probably buy another rental property.

Thankfully, when I bought my first home at twenty-one I happened to buy a three plex in a fairly not nice end of town. The price was in the low $200,000's. What's cool is that the average rental price is $1,100/month. I've had zero out of pocket expense as my tenants have paid my mortgage for me. Crappy thing is that when house values went up, so did my property taxes. In some ways I want the housing market to tank a little bit so I can make more profit.

Eventually the market will hit a bottom, and most real estate moguls are patiently awaiting that bottom so they can buy the property up. But I digress, real estate is always a good investment, and even if the value goes down, unless you live in one of the "People's Republic of..." states, you still own something that can't be taken away at a whim.

Ever seen the movie, "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" In that movie, the Character Delmar says, and quite correctly so, "A man ain't nothing, he don't own land."

"   No, that's really not an excuse  "

Of course it is.   See how you managed to slink out of the north/south
crime rate argument so easily ?

Crime in the south is rampant.   The violent crimes of the south
are double that of the north.  You are more likely to get mugged in
Macon, GA  than you are in NYC.  And thats a fact.

I am on my fifth wife.  The first four were not up to expectation.
I consider myself to be in the same wife trashing club as Rush
Limbaugh.  Got a problem with that ???

Johnray, I think you need to read the entire post before you jump on someone. She quoted Diode's woman bashing, and considering that she's a woman, I think she takes woman bashing quite personally.

Mom24kids, if you want to get your quotes better understood you need to put "quote" in brackert [] in front of the text you want to quote, and /quote in brackets [] behind. That way you'll get the nice quotation boxes.

Anyway Diode, Again you're comparing apples and automobiles. By your same logic I can say that you're 500 times more likely to be mugged in Washington DC, or Chicago than you are in Houston TX or Pensacola FL. What you're citing is that it's more dangerous to live in one city than it is in another, without taking into account even one single other factor as to what's going on. Further, I can safely say that you're more likely to be mugged in the entire state of Illinois than you are in the entire state of Arizona. I'll totally agree that by and large the Southern cities are noticably more dangerous, but if you make a grand generalization, saying that the ENTIRE South is dangeorous, and the entire North is safe, or that the entire South is more dangerous than the entire North you're wrong.

You're on your fifth wife!?! Cripes man! After your third time through the ringer did you even think that there might be something *YOU'RE* doing wrong? I'll wager that your little, "women being your property" thing is why you're losing out, time and again. Maybe you should get to know your potential wife a little bit better before you get married to her. Hopefully then you won't be able to continue to sully the gene pool.

I was insulted that any man would talk like that about women.I am also a doctor so I do mean that these people need professional help.I know that it is possible for any one to make a mistake, man or woman, but to insult all women and put them down like this, these people need professional help.Plus this kind of talk makes all men look bad and I do not like that.Johnray1

hi johnray,,i think you misconstrued what i was quoting from what i was saying,,
we are in total agreement,,the guy is insulting,,and that type of mindset does indeed warrant professional help.
in my first post i was being "sarcastic" when i noted that his first 4 ex wives must be jumping for joy now that he has left them,, and glomed onto wife number 5.
so you see,,we are in agreement.

thanks turboguy ,,i think i got into trouble when i lifted diode's quote from someone else's post,,so it didn't show the quote came from diode.

no worries =)

I came in late on this thread.  Where did the conversatin on the imminent collapse of the economy end?  so I don't have to read through all the last posts.  Thanks.

BTW, check out how the markets closed yesterday.  Wall Street is getting nervous, and that isn't a good sign.  They hear things before we do.

It really stopped at about page three, but bits and pieces have been trickling throughout the rest of the thread. I've tried a couple times to get this thread back on track, but it just goes back every time.

Muriel, are you sure that wasn't just end of the week profit taking? That's what I took it as. If it's down nearly 200 points again Monday I'll raise one eyebrow, if again Tuesday it's further down then we can start paying attention.

Personally I won't start getting worried unless we have a week or two or consistent downs. Unless we have that I seriously doubt that it's going to crash bigtime. With the rising inflation though, I fully expect to start paying more at not only the pump, but at the grocer too.

BIS warns of Great Depression dangers from credit spree
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
Last Updated: 9:02am BST 25/06/2007

The Bank for International Settlements, the world's most prestigious financial body, has warned that years of loose monetary policy has fuelled a dangerous credit bubble, leaving the global economy more vulnerable to another 1930s-style slump than generally understood.

"Virtually nobody foresaw the Great Depression of the 1930s, or the crises which affected Japan and Southeast Asia in the early and late 1990s. In fact, each downturn was preceded by a period of non-inflationary growth exuberant enough to lead many commentators to suggest that a 'new era' had arrived", said the bank.

The BIS, the ultimate bank of central bankers, pointed to a confluence a worrying signs, citing mass issuance of new-fangled credit instruments, soaring levels of household debt, extreme appetite for risk shown by investors, and entrenched imbalances in the world currency system.

"Behind each set of concerns lurks the common factor of highly accommodating financial conditions. Tail events affecting the global economy might at some point have much higher costs than is commonly supposed," it said.

The BIS said China may have repeated the disastrous errors made by Japan in the 1980s when Tokyo let rip with excess liquidity.

"The Chinese economy seems to be demonstrating very similar, disquieting symptoms," it said, citing ballooning credit, an asset boom, and "massive investments" in heavy industry.
