Went back to our local food store today, tons of cases of food, sales on a lot of prep stuff.  So I fills my buggy and heads to the checkout.  I said to the girl there, what's with all the cases.  Oh , she said, We always do this in march.  HAH?  Been shopping there for more than 30 years. I have seen it in the fall around Thanksgiving, but never to this extent and never at this time of year.

kelly check the post by tnbebo408 on storing water in trash cans, something about chemicals leaching into the water dont quite remember it all but might be relavant for drinking water.
Those who will not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

Stop at the store after work with my buy one get one free coupons. Looking around for items to stock up on. I did notice they have whole pallets of flour, mac and cheese, tomato sauce on sale. Just seems they are getting more prepared for bulk purchases. I agree we are seeing this because we are more aware. Most people walking through the store are clueless. If the mainstream media where reporting the news as much as the overseas press the shelves would already be cleaned out.

Kelly, the plastic cans will leach trace amounts of volatile compounds, and I mean trace, you would have to store and drink water ONLY from them, MANY YEARS for it to harm you.

To line a can with bags is a different story, the bags would break down fast and would pollute the water in days. Real fast if in the sun or any light.

I was at a doctors and administration meeting last night at my hospital. Trust me when I tell you I must be the only doctor in my city who gives a hoot about preparing for this flu disaster should it come to be. I know longer talk about it as I suspect most would think Im crazy. I sit silently and listen to the crap of the day most meaningless policy garbage. In the meantime Im stocked to the gills on whatever  MY FAMILY AND i WILL NEED. pEOPLE ARE SO CONSUMED WITH THEIR DAY TO DAY LIVES TO CARE ABOUT THIS UNTIL THEIR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS START CROAKING. I have a bad feeling about this virus and it worries me that when it arrives whether or not its fatal, the panic will be unimaginable. I look at this as life and disabilty insurance which costs me plenty. If i DONT EVER USE THE FOOD OR MEDICINE ITS LIKE AN INS PREMIUM. gOD HELP US ALL IF WE DO NEED IT. iT WILL BE PRECIOUS AND sought after. The door is going to close rapidly once the virus starts killing people in our country. Just prep and dont woory what others think or do. Can donate the stuff to a food bank for the homeless if not used and wright it off maybe. I definitely agree most people are not preparedand will panic and freak when the zero hour approaches. Wont be fun being near a store. Good luck to all.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst!

Dokato112, you are right about people ,they will panick when they realize that they have waited to long to prep.  I live in Ms.  A clerk at sam's club told me that 3 days after Katrina hit they were able to open.  She had 2 guns pulled on her was hit and shoved because they could not let but a few people in at a time, she said it was toally insane and she will never work during a crisis again.  So guys lets keep prepping.  She also said people was pulling guns on others taking their gasoline.  She said some people drilled holes in the gas tanks of other and took the gas out.

Thank you all for your advice.   I am not sure what to do now but believe that I will forget about liners and just go with garbage can for cleaning water.  Hopefully we won't need it for drinking but we do have filters and bleach..and will be able to boil it too..so hopefully that will be enough to keep us safe.

Stopped by the store again tonight..bought more food.

I am finally finished with my inventory list also.  Whew, that a list.  I hope it's enough.

Lord help us all.  Good luck to us all.  I pray this does not happen.  Take care of yourselves.  Peace.

WE will most certainly see the worst..and hopefully the best (also) in people if and when this happens.  People will panic, no doubts there.  People will steal, loot, and who knows what else trying to claw their way into a better situation.  I guess things will be under something like common law.  They hang horse thieves, don't they?  It's really not funny.  It is likely to be very traumatic in some places..and in some situations.  That's why we are prepping..to avoid much of the fall out...and to survivie, of course.  Life is going to be different.  I hope that we have electricity, at least for awhile.  I feel that we have been such a great support system here....that it would be nice to have this forum to express ourselves..or fears..during and after the pandemic, but at the very least we all know that we are not alone.  Take care.  Peace.
