It appears that H7N9 is apparently gone as there are no new cases being reported in China.

Has h7 disappeared for good, or is China not reporting cases?  Any thoughts?

I think H7N9 is lurking in poultry markets and is waiting till the right person comes along. It is very unlikely the virus has been eradicated. I'm still somewhat wary of MERS, not much is known yet and they still don't know if there's sustained h2h transmission going on.

Nah - they're hiding it. It's still there.

Margret Chan is at the helm of the WHO!!! This is the same woman who was busted for covering up SARS when chief of Hong Kong's Department of Health.

She's basically a stooge for Chinese government

Really i think this thing is under control, but how can you trust them.

I know of one death from it today (near Shanghai) where the authorities have refused to release the diagnosis paperwork.

Two of the close family also show signs of the disease & are being kept in hospital under observation.
I am beginning to side with the conspiracy theorists on this point.

NosetoGround - can you post any links? Good find, BTW Thumbs Up
If China was prepared to hide new cases under the guise of going to reporting once a week during the first outbreak, and even refusing to tell family members of diagnoses and even deaths, they're not going to worry about keeping us in the dark. Even if it's not in the human population right now (which I very much doubt), as Kyle mentioned it's almost certainly still circulating asymptotically in the wet markets, and it'll be back.

Unfortunately I can't post links as there are none; the person who died is my fiancee's grandfather.
It's extremely upsetting for her family with the death alongside the way they are being treated but rocking the boat noisily is probably not a good thing when we need her to get a visa to come to my country & marry me.

Regarding the risk to the general population; None of the family work with poultry so, whilst I am hopeful the grandfather caught it shopping in the wet markets, for the two family members to have picked it up there at the same time is unlikely and so it seems human-to-human transmission in some form is possible.  How easily we don't know, but more tests are being done by the CDC at the moment.  I'll keep this thread updated with any news from close to the case as it comes, but I'm afraid it will need to be taken by all as anecdotal until some concrete evidence is released by either the hospital or the CDC.

I hear you. Appreciate you posting what you can, and I hope the other family members recover soon.

Apologies for not updating this thread sooner.  Rest of family recovered, but they have been told to not mention the case as it was hinted strongly that their would be problems for them if they did.
They did get some compensation from the hospital who admitted fault, but not the disease.
It seems however, that China can't keep other cases in the country quiet anymore.

Thanks for the update, NosetoGround. Gad to hear that the rest of the family recovered. Sounds like business as usual in China though. If this is a practice they've adopted throughout the country (and I'm sure it is) it makes you wonder how many cases - both mild and serious - they're suppressing, and how many deaths are either not being reported or being deliberately misdiagnosed.
Thanks again Thumbs Up
