The US was much harder hit by the H1N1 pandemic then most European countries. Although the number of people who died the last 9 months of 2009 due to flu is within the normal range for the flu, the age-group is not. Expressed in years of life lost the 2009 pandemic compares with the pandemic of 1968 (average age in 68 was 62 years old with life-expectancy 71, in 2009 average age was 40, exptancy then was 79). Because H1N1 did not stop in 2010 the total deathtoll till 2013 might come to 400.000.
