12 Dead in 'Terrorist' Attack on Paris Satirical Newspaperhttp://abcnews.go.com/International/deadly-shooting-reported-french-satirical-newspaper-office/story?id=28050771 Twelve people have died and three others were critically injured as gunmen opened fire at the office of a Paris-based satirical newspaper today in an attack that France's president called a "terrorist operation." The shooting at the office of Charlie Hebdo was a "cowardly attack," said President Francois Hollande when he was at the scene this morning.
"This is a terrorist operation against an office that has been threatened several times, which is why it was protected," he said, without going into the specifics of the police protection at the office in the center of Paris. Photos from the scene show a police car riddled with bullet holes. The newspaper had been targeted in the past over its content, often aimed at religious groups. French officials confirmed that there are believed to be three attackers, all of whom were seen in videos wearing black from head-to-toe. Their identities and affiliations have not been revealed but one of the men is heard screaming "Allahu Akbar," an Islamic phrase meaning "God is great," in one of the scene videos.
This morning's turmoil punctured an otherwise normal day in the French capital, with the gunshots audible from nearby buildings, sending bystanders cowering. The masked gunmen were later seen fleeing the scene and hijacked a car, authorities said. They have not been caught and a search is underway for the shooters. The tragedy marks France's deadliest terror attack in decades. The government raised its terror alert to the highest level and reinforced security at houses of worship, stores, media offices and transportation.
The New York City Police Department ordered extra security to the French
consulate in Manhattan and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
said that they are closely monitoring the events in France and are ready
to adjust their "security posture, as appropriate."

The New York City Police Department ordered extra security to the French consulate in Manhattan and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that they are closely monitoring the events in France and are ready to adjust their "security posture, as appropriate."
Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper, has come under attack before. Their office was firebombed in 2011 and its website was hacked after its cover featured the prophet Muhammad. Nearly a year later, the publication again published crude Muhammad caricatures, drawing denunciations from around the Muslim world.
The cover of this week's issue of the newspaper focuses on a new book by
Michel Houellebecq, “Submission,” which depicts France led by an
Islamic party that bans women from the workplace. President Obama condemned the "outrageous" attack. "France is America’s oldest ally, and has stood shoulder to shoulder with the United States in the fight against terrorists who threaten our shared security and the world," President Obama's statement read. "Time and again, the French people have stood up for the universal values that generations of our people have defended." Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper expressed sadness following the shooting. |

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2015/01/after-charlie-hebdo-jihad-massacre-it-is-time-to-stand-for-free-speech
After Charlie Hebdo jihad massacre, it is time to stand for free speechOne of the jihad murderers in Paris shouted, “We have avenged the prophet Muhammad,” making it abundantly clear that this was a jihad attack and a response to Charlie Hebdo’s daring to mock Muhammad. It is virtually certain that the mainstream media response to this heinous mass murder will be calls for the West to restrict its freedom of expression, and not publish material that offends Muslims. If you think that is unlikely, remember that it has happened before. When the Obama Administration blamed the Benghazi jihad attack on a video about Muhammad, there were calls in the mainstream media for restrictions on the freedom of speech. Eric Posner in Slate derided the First Amendment’s “sacred status” and declared that “Americans need to learn that the rest of the world—and not just Muslims—see no sense in the First Amendment. Even other Western nations take a more circumspect position on freedom of expression than we do, realizing that often free speech must yield to other values and the need for order.” In the Los Angeles Times, Sarah Chayes noted that “the current standard for restricting speech — or punishing it after it has in fact caused violence — was laid out in the 1969 case Brandenburg vs. Ohio. Under the narrower guidelines, only speech that has the intent and the likelihood of inciting imminent violence or lawbreaking can be limited.” She then argued at length that the Muhammad video did indeed have the likelihood of inciting imminent violence, and should thus be banned. Her article was a sleazy and dishonest sleight of hand, as the law is that speech that calls for violence can be banned, whereas she was arguing that speech that doesn’t call for violence, but that might make people who oppose it behave violently, should be banned. That would be to enshrine the heckler’s veto into law and to enable Islamic jihadis to silence anyone they disliked simply by killing someone. And in the Washington Post, the gutter thug Nathan Lean (who has repeatedly published what he thinks is my home address and places I frequent on Twitter, in a transparent attempt to endanger me and those around me, and/or to frighten me into silence) declared: “The voices of hate that hope to fracture our society along religious lines should have no place in our public discourse.” Who would decide which are the “voices of hate” that should be silenced? People like Nathan Lean, of course – that is, purveyors of the “Islamophobia” myth who are determined to silence anyone and everyone who dares raise the slightest objection to the advancing jihad. Now, as twelve people have been gunned down by Islamic jihadists in Paris, we will hear more such calls for restrictions on the freedom of speech. The likes of Posner, Chayes, and Lean will blame Charlie Hebdo and call on Western media to adopt Sharia blasphemy laws, and refrain from saying or doing anything that Muslims would find offensive — including, of course, honest discussion about how Islamic jihadists use Islamic texts and teachings to justify things like the Charlie Hebdo massacre. This is the time to say, “Enough.” This is the time to say, We are going to stand for the freedom of speech. No more people are going to die for saying things that offend Muslims. The capacity to be offended and not respond with violence is essential to a pluralistic society, and the freedom of speech itself is our foremost protection against tyranny that would do whatever it willed and crush all dissent. It is time to stand, or free speech will be lost, and when it is lost, all will be lost. |

Terrorists believe in terror. They claim to have a right to decide over other peoples live based on a lack of selfreflection. No religion or ideoligy is an excuse for murder. Satire can go to far but there is a legal system for corrections. The two men who did this attack seem to think that their god is not strong enough to deal with his matters himself but needs these "fighters"to do his work.
One of the policeman killed was a muslim. Terrorists that call themselves muslim kill mostly other muslims. Extreme right-wing that were already threatening with attacks on muslim mosques and shops are no better then other terrorists. Freedom of expression is essential for democracy and progress, science. People have a right to make mistakes in learning. But only tolerance can bring western societies further, not violence or hate.

Dutch Josh, I think that you are 100% wrong.Tolerance only gets you killed or causes loss of freedom. No organization that teaches the killing of any one who does not believe like you do should NOT be tolerated and it should be eliminated.Johnray1

I, like Josh, believe in tolerance.
But I have abandoned that corner of the belief that allows for Islam. This was not a small thing to do. I really do believe in tolerance otherwise. It is central to both my person and my faith. (Jesus said: "In my Father's house are many mansions." and my Goddess said: "Some may not see me as you do, but each of you see but a part. So do not descend into warfare, show others your love and respect.") The central point appears to be the same in both statements. I have met some nice and tolerant Moslems. But I have come to understand that they were good people DESPITE being Islamic not BECAUSE of their faith. You have all heard me ranting against Islam before, so I will not repeat myself this time. But I have known and loved people from India and Mauritious, from Figi, Nigeria and several other countries, small and large, driven from their ancestral homes by the rising tide of Islam. I recognise that this faith (just this one, no other) is a cancer on the face of the Earth. I only hope it is diagnosed and treated before much longer. I do not want the world to descend into a new dark age. Jacksdad is absolutely right: JE SUIS CHARLIE! |

Yes, I believe in tolerance.
In my lifetime: India has been partitioned, and Pakistan and Bangladesh have become totally Islamic countries. All of the Middle East, Turkey, Northen Africa, Indonesia and a myriad other nations have become Islamic, including part of The Philipines. Every other country on the planet, including Australasia and the Pacific Islands is now threatned and attacked by Islamic fanatics, who always claim that they want peace and it is just a few extreemists that are causing trouble. While we stop and listen to these so-called good Moslems, they are doing what they have already done in the UK, ie. setting up government supported/encouraged organisations such as the Islamic Council Of Britain, which has helped to enshrine sharia law into the legal framework of the family courts of Great Britain. Furthermore, we have faith schools which are Islamic and of very dubious quality (very recently they were inspected and the vast majority found to be, both teaching very poorly and encouraging extreemist viewpoints. Even their boards of governors were revealed to have operated a "we shall conceal from the infadel our true purpose here" approach). We once had a politican in this country who was mocked and chided by the left-wing political parties as well as those do-gooders who wanted to be seen to be nice middle-class people. This man was called Enoch Powell MP.. He gave a speech in which he referred to "rivers of blood flowing in the streets of Great Britain" due to being overly tolerant of, in particular, Islamic imigrants. He was finally sent to Northern Ireland to keep him out of the public eye. He has since been proven right on all counts. So, as I understand it, tolerance is about 0.5 of an inch. At least for the detonator unit screwed into the hydrogen bomb that should be dropped in the controlling centre of the new, murderous Islamic State (IS), that is stirring up such evil acts as those that murdered the French cartoonists, two of which were my personal favourites. The world should be informed that if Islam continues in its present mode it will be eliminated. Isn't it time the governments of the Western world stopped pandering to alien cultures and threw them out of their countries. They do not tolerate us. "Convert or die" seems to be the call on their side. Why not on ours too? JE SUIS CHARLIE, AUSSI! |

I do not believe in tolerating those who do not tolerate me. If I am not good enough for them the Netherlands might be to small for the both of us. But intolerance is not only something from extreme muslims. Terrorism is something beyond a redline.
I am critical of my government, I do most of the time not agree with a lot of people, but that is not an excuse for violance ! Since cristianity is almost gone in the Netherlands islam might become the main religion here. But still it will be a religion of a minority with many kinds of beliefs. I am a republican and in this kingdom sometimes that can get you into problems, so I do want some tolerence !

Willobybrat,I agree with what you said about tolerance. I would rather see the sands of the middle east, turned into glass, than to see even one more American or British soldier die their.Johnray1
