Travelers to China warned of rising H7N9 threat
2015/01/21 12:40:28 Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) Travelers to China need to pay attention to their personal hygiene and seek medical attention immediately if they develop fever or cough symptoms because of a surge in avian flu H7N9 there, Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advised Wednesday. China saw 29 new cases last week alone, with the majority being recorded in Fujian and Guangdong provinces, according to the CDC. There have been 67 reported human infections of H7N9 avian flu in China since Oct. 1 last year, said the CDC, which has raised its travel alert to level 2 for several Chinese destinations. The CDC said the level-2 alert applies to Shanghai, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Zhejiang in eastern China, Fujian and Guangdong in southeastern China, and Xinjiang in western China. There is a level-1 advisory in place for all other mainland Chinese provinces and cities, the CDC said. Under the CDC's three-tier warning system, level-1 and -2 travel advisories urge vigilance and precautions, while a level-3 warning advises against travel to the specified destination. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the bulk of the H7N9 flu outbreak is in China, accounting for 504 cases of the world's 520. http://focustaiwan.tw/news/asoc/201501210009.aspx |
