Well - it is rare to see this kind of prepping offer. Wondering what inspired Costco to do this.
http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2018/03/10/costco-is-selling-6000-doomsday-meal-kit.html If you’ve ever fretted about what to snack on during an apocalypse, Costco has got you covered. The wholesale superstore has rolled out a $6,000 food kit featuring 36,000 servings of food that can feed a family of four for a year, according to its online listing. "Enjoy the comfort in knowing you have the essential foods your family will need to survive an emergency or natural disaster!" Issaquah, Wash. headquartered chain writes of the package. Offering roughly 2,000 calories a day per person and a shelf life up to 25 years for the freeze dried items, the Nutristore 1-Year Premium Food Kit averages out to $0.17 per portion, Costco says. From elbow macaroni pasta to instant milk, dehydrated potatoes, beef and chicken TVP as well as freeze-dried green beans, dehydrated apples and a mysterious “butter powder”, the kit certainly offers culinary creativity in its sheer size. I can do it cheaper, Costco.
That is quite scary, Med. Thanks for the heads-up. |

First thing I thought as well!! All that dehydrated stuff only works if you have access to potable water. Maybe Costco can sell powdered water to go with it?

It's getting to big business catering to preppers. Honestly, I think they're just cashing in on a growing market.

I agree 100% with this. Huge $$$'s in prepping now - they just want their piece of the pie! I thought US Costco had dehydrated pks like this for years? Maybe they got out for a bit and are back into it - but I know a few years back both Wally world and Costco US had FD food - and the Canadian stores didn't (neither in store nor online)... I remember because it frustrated me! |

I've been curious about the "prepper market" for a while now....
Since Pres. Trump was elected, a lot of the fervor seems to have left the prepper field - guns sales are 'way down, for example. I'll bet ammo sales are as well. I know Costco offered this pallet of freeze-dried stuff in the past, maybe they have a lot of unsold inventory they are trying to move? I'm no more concerned about social instability now than I have been for years, despite a flare-up now and then. Stuff can happen (solar storm, cyberattack on grid etc.) but, by and large, I feel adequately prepared without the need to stockpile a lot of emergency rations.

I wish they wouldn't refer to it as a "doomsday" kit surely they could come up with some more positive way to refer to this, lol.
