NEW YORK (AP) — The Latest on the new coronavirus outbreak (all times local):

2:45 p.m.

Washington state health authorities now say six people have died from coronavirus.

At a news conference Monday Dr. Jeff Duchin from Public Health – Seattle & King County – said five of the deaths were people from King County and one was a person from Snohomish County, north of Seattle.

Researchers said earlier that the virus may have been circulating for weeks undetected in Washington state.

Article doesn't say whether he was being treated for it, or if they thought of it 'after the fact', seems odd he died a week ago and it took a week to get results if they already knew he had it.

Not really a mystery.  He may have been a presumptive case and was tested, and died before the CDC could confirm it.

7 dead, 27 positive, will rise fast from here.

The #coronavirus cases in Washington state rise so fast, I can’t keep up tweeting.  LATEST UPDATE: 27 people tested positive for COVID19 and 9 have died in that state alone. (WA- DOH)

There is a HUGE cohort of hidden cases in Washington.  You can't find, identify, contain or treat them if you don't have tests done to see whom they are.

I work in this industry so I want to share my feelings.    This story judges the event by what we know now, not what we knew then.   We where being told that the risk of COVID19 was very low and there was NO community spread.  Remember this was the first known major outbreak of the virus.  In my workplace we have also experienced a wave of illness in the last couple weeks.   If you went to the doctor and suggested covid19 they would literally laugh at you.  At my work place, we have put up tons of signs and every visitor and vendor now has to fill out a questionnaire before entering the the building.  So we are doing all we can but will that really make a difference?  I will give my workplace some credit because they have stepped up when it comes to cleaning and sanitizing the place.  Every surface gets cleaned with bleach a couple times a day.

At least in California we have very strict state mandated staffing ratios that we must maintain or we are fined.    We feel very strong pressure not to call off sick.  If i want an "excused" absence I have to call/text two supervisors and call the building 8 hours a head of time.   If we are short staffed it is likely you will be told no you can't take the day off.    To my companies credit if you come to work sick they will make you put on a mask and sometimes they will even send you home.   They "say" don't come to work sick however the policies in place make it very clear they don't want call offs.

Another thing to remember this isn't a hospital, this is peoples homes for the time being.   We have 90 residents 2 or 3 to a room in a very compact building.   Approximately 100 staff serve those 90 residents every day.    We probably have 50-100 visitors a day.  We have 20-50 vendors a day.  We also often have student nurses.   We have WAY to many people interacting in a very confined space.   There isn't much  you can do.   We do the best that we can to take care of ourselves and the residents, but we can only do so much.   It is what it is.

When I read it I felt bad for the old folks, they had a good time I'm sure. Most homes have a robust social schedule for them. The sad thing about getting old is that inside you are still that vibrant person you were decades ago. That's the rub about aging! I realize health workers did their best, who saw what was comnng down the pike.

I have a couple of cousins whom I am not close to,I talk to the brother on occasion, his sister not so much. she lives in Bellvue WA. I called him last night, once thru the pleasantries I asked if he had talked to her lately, telling him about the outbreak there, then asking if he and his wife were preparing. His opinion on this is it's no big deal. I asked where she worked, she is an RN,NICU.Evergreen Health Medical Center! Isn't that ground Zero? I was blunt, please call, find out what is going on on the ground and then call me,well I am still waiting!

How long till the hospitals are reaching overload.  Italy is having a smash up time right now.   From my experience people in the stares will go to hospital for the smallest thing.  Thereby bogging down health care

I'm surprised that people aren't rushing to remove their elderly relatives from care facilities.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.
