As new studies are showing that the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus is mutating into various strains with different characteristics, (https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/breaking-new-research-indicates-sars-cov-2-coronavirus-is-indeed-mutating-into-various-strains-that-have-specific-preference-of-attacking-human-host-) there could be a scenario where populations will see repeated attacks coming in waves , each time with a new strain.

In an article published in Journal Of Korean Medial Science, Dr Jin Hong-Yoo from the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Korea wrote to warn that after two surges of infections in South Korea, a third wave scenario was possible if various conditions were met, including one in which a brand new mutant strain was introduced to the public. This could not be ruled out as studies are already showing that the SARS-CoV02 coronavirus is indeed mutating fast, with already a number of strains, the possibility was extremely high. He wrote in his article, “No matter how much it rampages through the whole country, the disease eventually dies out because the herd immunity will be established someday. However, what if the coronavirus that comes back is not the same as the previous one and, therefore, we are not ready for the immunity against it? Nightmares begin again. It's even worse. What's really disturbing is that there is really a report about new mutations actually emerging.   (Tang X, Wu C, Li X, Song Y, Yao X, Wu X, et al. On the origin and continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2. Natl Sci Rev. 2020 doi: 10.1093/nsr/nwaa036]  https://f1000.com/prime/737471750)  I don't know how much reliable this report is, but in any case, it is clear that mutants have appeared.”

The author mentioned that although the emergence of new mutations cannot be prevented, it is necessary to prepare for the possibility of such scenarios.

Virologists and infectious diseases experts are also warning that such a scenario is extremely likely and also the fact that very few researchers are paying attention to the mutations and the strains emerging.
