US foreign policy is essentially one big long war against disobedience.
Bombing, regime changing, starving and destabilizing any population anywhere on earth who dares to insist on its own self-sovereignty instead of letting itself be absorbed into the folds of the global empire.
They call different parts of it the Israel-Hamas War, the Iraq War, the Vietnam War, but really it's all the same war.
One long operation to brutalize the global population into obedience and submission, generation after generation. Current Levels
Relative to the full pandemic, transmission remains higher today than during about 85% of the pandemic. There is lower transmission than during only 15% of the pandemic.
The Post-Surge Hill
Based on the current Biobot #wastewater data, it appears the PMC forecast was correct in forecasting a post-surge hill of transmission. The forecasting model began to pick up on this 4 weeks ago. The hill's peak was likely February 7, barring wastewater level corrections to the contrary. The hill has meant sustained high transmission the past month with >1 million daily infections during that time. The hill is a product of regional variation in the peak transmission day as well as some places have a bimodal or multimodal series of winter waves. The model essentially picks up on this in the third derivative, or the "change in change in change" in transmission, or more simply a surge not declining as it "should." Imagine dropping a poker chip from the top of a building, and instead of it accelerating in its speed toward the ground it actually started to fall at a slower and slower pace until a gust of wind pushes it back up into the air, and then it fell again toward the ground more as anticipated. The model was essentially tracking that motion, detecting something amiss, predicting a rebound, and now predicting a more standard decline in transmission.
Forecast the Next Month
Transmission is forecasted to fall in half over the next 4 weeks, from approximately 1.2 million infections/day today to 500,000-600,000 infections/day in a month. The anticipated decline in transmission is good news. However, it's occurring later in the calendar year than typical, and a half million infections per day in the U.S. remains catastrophic given that the risk of Long COVID. Looking at the graph of the full pandemic, note how many days the first two years of the pandemic had <500,000 infections per day, and compare that with the past two years. With politics and short-term capitalistic interests driving laissez-faire #PublicHealth guidance, mitigation continues to decline, and reinfections are common.

Persistent viral reservoirs have been proposed in Long COVID and using multiple orthogonal methods for detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA and protein in plasma we identify a subset of patients with detectable antigens, but with minimal overlap across assays, and no correlation to symptoms or immune measurements. Elevated serologic responses to SARS-CoV-2 on the other hand were inversely correlated with clonally expanded memory CD8+ T cells, indicating that restrained clonal expansion enables viral persistence, chronic antigen exposure and elevated IgG responses, even if antigen-detection in blood is not universally possible.

The high temperatures are down to southwesterly winds which have brought warm air across the country – taking the temperature in the south of the country to 18° on February 15. DJ, we did see a lot of storms so far in 2024...also connected to the SW winds... ---------------- Switzerland: The weirdest cryptic SARS-CoV-2 lineage ever From the world's leading expert on cryptic lineages. - I found (or rediscovered) another cryptic lineage this weekend, and this is the weirdest one yet. Sometimes it almost feels like someone is playing an extremely elaborate prank on me. I'm not sure even I believe this one. 1/ - The lineage is from a sewershed in Switzerland. The group submitted hundreds of sequences recently and the lineage appeared twice in samples from late last year, both times from the same sewershed. 2/ - The lineage is derived from B.1.416*, a lineage that circulated in late 2020 and was most prevalent in Switzerland. I’m still working on reconstructing the genome, but there were several revealing bits in the parts I’ve analyzed. 3/ -- Here was the first clue. The samples had lots of sequences that still had the s2m element, which meant it was not BA.2 or XBB-derived, but those sequences lacked G29742T, so it wasn’t Delta or XBD-derived. It also had T29758G, which told me this was probably a cryptic. 5/ - The samples had sequence that lacked R203K/G204R, which meant it was pre-B.1.1, but it had C28833T, which was the first clue that it was B.1.416-derived. 6/ - The wild part is the RBD. It had multiple deletions and the overall sequence is significantly changed. I would have thought this were a sequencing mistake, but the same nearly identical mutations and deletions appeared in both samples. - Almost every AA that contacts ACE2 is mutated or deleted in this Spike; could it even still bind ACE2? It’s possible the sequence is not real, but there were thousands of reads, and it wasn't a reconstruction. It was raw reads. Could the RBD change this much? Thoughts? DJ...the finding may be describing a form of CoViD with another Receptor-Binding-Domain (RBD) than ACE2 ???? Is it even a "human corona-virus" ??? Covid increases almost all lung diseases including cancer two years out after infection, even in those without Long Covid. Can you imagine the health burden as time goes forward with people being barraged with reinfections again, and again? DJ...what we are seeing on long term damage of CoViD may be "just the beginning"....It is "only 5 years old" so ; given the very high spread we may see a lot of long term damage...The main reason why SARS-1 (2003) may not be able to tell us much is the spread was very limited and treatment may have limited damage in most cases...We did contain SARS-1 in 2003...Containment of SARS-2 failed in january 2020 due to inaction by politics...(Even with the Wuhan lockdown a lot of countries closed their eyes and believed the problem would remain in China...). I'm at a garden centre. People who wear masks spend less time browsing in shops. That's why there's so much opposition to wearing masks. But gardening involves exercise. Covid affects your health in many ways that might make people give up working in their gardens. DJ...even using a mask more is "a problem" in most (western) countries...Masks have been used for centuries (may go back to the Romans and Greeks !!! Old China/India civilizations !!!) ...a lot of Asian countries use masks to limit virus spread...Could be promoted as a fashion item...but "NO"...Some countries see masks in public transport as (supporting) crime.... DJ, "Acute CoViD" would be getting milder...still on average the last two months did see in between 150 and 200 people in NL hospitals because of CoViD...so "it is not just a cold" ...The statistics may indicate CoViD -in its acute form- is still resulting in more hospital cases than even flu does...
