I found this on another group and didn't see it in a search of this forum, so I thought it would be a good one to share. This tonic was one used in 1918, and I talked to my osteopathic doctor about it and he liked it and thinks it is a good remedy for mucus among other things.
So...you take equal parts of: Raw ginger, chopped Raw horseradish, chopped Raw garlic, chopped Raw white onion, chopped The hottest peppers you can stand Raw apple cider vinegar Fill a jar 3/4 of the way with the chopped ingredients and then add Raw apple cider vinegar, like Bragg's, to fill the jar. Seal it and shake it several times a day for 3-4 weeks. Keep it in a cool dark place. After the time's up, strain, don't worry if there is some stuff in the bottom of the jar, it is the 'mother' of the brew. It does not need refridgeration because of the vinegar. Dosage is 1 Tbsp. twice a day, at the first sign of cold or flu. Be careful not to splash this in your eyes, it burns like pepperspray. I'm thinking some of this in a spray bottle might be good for self defence. Some folks add a bit of tomato juice to help it go down. Just the smell alone is enough to open your sinuses. I can find more info if anyone is interested. |

Sounds like my great -grandmother's chaw chaw. At the first sign of cold, cough or flu, we got a heaping tablespoon of the vile stuff several times a day with an organge juice chaser. However, our symptoms disappeared quickly, and we were back outside playing within a day or two. I think this mixture may be similar to that Asian sauerkraut sold for outrageous amounts of money on EBAY. Just mix store purchased chaw chaw with sauerkraut & eat a big whopping tablespoon several times a day after becoming ill with cold or flu like symptoms.
My great-grandmother is 96 years old and eats this stuff EVERY day. |
