The "doomsday clock" is still two-and-a-half minutes to midnight" http://thebulletin.org/clock/2017 but time is ticking and moving in the wrong direction.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_CeYOQ86Us After the visit of US foreign secretary Rex Tillerson to China Israeli News Live bring the news that there is troop-movement in Bejing.

China must be getting tired of North Korea's testing of weapons. But China may be preparing to make its points clear towards the US in a "less friendly way". So far China did not choose military answers, tried to get more economic markets (via financial infrastructures, trade deals with a lot of countries).

The US-Trump-administration seems to want more confrontation with both China and Iran. Both countries are working on answers-wich means escalation of war.

http://www.debka.com/article/25973/Israeli-Russian-clash-over-Hizballah%E2%80%99s-Golan-grab, (Pro-Iran forces moving closer to the Golan Heights are unacceptable for Israel. http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/20160/Syrian-rebels-attack-Russian-embassy-in-Damascus The Damascus offensive might indicate Israeli aid to the "rebels". Russia is seeing the Israeli air force serving IS.)

The war for Syria seems to escalete with more US troops getting involved. Growing chances that Russia (or Syria, Iran) may shoot down western or Israeli airplanes above Syria. The Yemen war is also escalating-https://southfront.org/footage-houthi-forces-launching-ballistic-missile-against-military-airbase-near-saudi-capital/

"Moderate al-quada linked rebels" can not start their offensive in Damascus without foreign aid. Houthi-rebels can not fire missiles on Riyaad without foreign aid.

North Korea is most likely preparing for a nuclear test far bigger than previous tests. Those tests did cause earthquakes in the region (the tests themselves with magnitudes M5+). http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/fail-or-succeed-the-next-north-korea-nuclear-test-could-be-a-disaster/article/2617762#!

With more cases of humans both with H5N1 and H7N9 maybe worth noting that even if these virusses do not go Human-to-Human (H2H) stay bird-to-human they still can cause a lot of cases.

On US-China relations:

Finally, in a parallel report from Axios, the website cites China expert Richard McGregor who lists 5 things he believes Xi wants from Trump in order to maintain cordial relations between the two nations:

  1. 1.Don't upend the status quo with North Korea: China's worst nightmare is that the regime would collapse and be subsumed by South Korea, which would make for a U.S.-ally on their border. It needs North Korea as a buffer state. Contra Washington conventional wisdom, the Chinese can't just snap their fingers and tell the North Koreans what to do. China and North Korea deeply distrust each other. So the Chinese hope Trump's tough talk is just bluster. (DJ-North Korea may already be close to collapse, from nuclear test that may go wrong to food-crises. When staying in North Korea means dying in North Korea you will see refugees)
  2.
  3. 2.Avoid a confrontation in the South China Sea: Xi will likely deliver to Trump a quiet warning on the South China Sea. During his confirmation hearing, Rex Tillerson told Senators China needed to stop its island building there. The Chinese want Trump to understand they will defend their interests if the U.S. pushes back. (See our Facts Matter on the South China Sea.)

  4. 3.Stick to "One China": Regarding Taiwan, they want Trump to stick with the "One China" policy. Xi was furious when Trump took a call from Taiwan's president, and wouldn't speak with him over the phone until Trump agreed to support the status quo. (See our Facts Matter on the One China policy.)

  5. 4.No trade war: The Chinese, like everyone else, don't know what Trump might do on trade. They are closely following the reports about the tussle within the White House between nationalists (especially Bannon and Wilbur Ross) and the Goldman Sachs wing, led by Trump's chief economic advisor, Gary Cohn. As Axios revealed: trade in automobiles is the big sleeper issue.

  6. 5.The big picture: Xi wants a stable international environment that allows China to continue to develop and accumulate wealth and power. They abhor the prospect of military disruptions and interruptions to trade, with Xi going to Davos this year to sell China as an apostle of the open international order to all the folks Bannon would call "globalists." McGregor says China's ideal state for America is "slow and steady bourgeois decline." Anything too chaotic — Trump's MO, basically — hurts China.

Europe

https://www.rt.com/news/381261-us-romania-russia-nato-exercises/ (DJ-An Ukraine attack on Crimea might get some sort of support (info, logistics) by NATO ?)

http://en.mehrnews.com/news/124349/Refugee-flow-from-Turkey-to-Greece-sharply-rises-after-Ankara-s (DJ-Turkey does not want IS fighters from Syria and Iraq inside their country-maybe Saudi Arabia can exploit them in their wars with Iran ? Otherwise the IS fighters may become "refugees").

Middle East

(Russia will train Kurdish YPG fighters and open an air base at Afrin-NW Syria. Afrin is not far from the Turkish border. https://twitter.com/Conflicts/status/843833489522855936 An airbase there would block airroutes from Encerlik-Turkey by the western coalition. South west-near Latakia Russia has https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmeimim_(air_base) So far YPG in Eastern Syria cooperated with US forces.  (Pro)Turkish forces inside Syria now have Russian forces east and west of them. China-US relation

While press reports put the best "face"  on Secretary Tillerson's meeting with China, skuttlebutt in the Pentagon claims it was "an unmitigated disaster."

China allegedly demanded the US immediately withdraw all its naval forces from the South China Sea and Tillerson flatly refused. The Chinese also allegedly told Tillerson that China has no way to stop North Korea from continuing to develop nuclear weapons and test missiles, to which Tillerson allegedly replied "don't piss on my leg and try to tell me it's raining."  Offended, China allegedly abruptly recessed the meeting.

Shortly thereafter, North Korea test-fired a new rocket engine, while Tillerson was still meeting with China, and later announced that they would launch nuclear weapons against the US, South Korea, and Japan "if a single bullet is fired by US and South Korean troops toward North Korea."

Middle East

Korea

Commetary DJ: When the Trump-administration does not accept the present nuclear treaty with Iran Iran may (re)start its nuclear program (and the US and EU are not on one line).
China does not accept US weapon sales to Taiwan, the presence of US navy in the South China Sea.
Russia does not want Israel to sell weapons to Ukraine, attacking (pro)Iran forces in Syria (or Lebanon). For Russia-Iran-China (RIC) it is getting clear what they can expect from Trump. They proberbly co-ordinate a joined reaction in wich they will not wait for US/NATO initiatives. Russia moving into YPG held regions inside Syria fits that patern. (The Kurds have not forgotten that the US/NATO is on the Turkish side in the war against the PKK, the US helped the shah in Iran in his genocide on the Kurds before the islamic revolution.)

North Korea will continu its weaponsprogramm. Putting satelites in orbit, developing nuclear weapons. The expected nuclear test may cause "very severe damage" in a wide region inside North Korea. Possibly the biggest danger for North Korea is its present government.

The Trump-administration in the US beliefs in fossil fuels, wants to Make America Great Again. Stands behind Israel and wants to spent even more on the military.

If you want to be "great", the only "superpower" you can not shy away for confrontations with rivals.

Given the importance of the Middle East for oil. Also the possibility to involve strong partners-NATO, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan I (DJ) think this could be a possible scenario:

-Turkey can be pulled into the NATO allience when the Kurds can be used as "a foreign enemy" (supported by Syria, Russia). NATO countries can be forced to come to assist Turkey with its fight against "foreign invaders" (PKK) in Turkey and YPG etc. outside Turkey (that also would provide an excuse for a new invasion in Iraq).

-To stop any nuclear plans from Iran Israel, Saudi Arabia with US help will be enabled to take action in Iran. Pakistan already has troops in Saudi Arabia to help that country with border security close to Yemen.

-The US wants to show strenght, the Black Sea mostly will become NATO territory. Ukraine, Georgia could become NATO members. At the same time NATO forces will be active in Libya.

-Since Trump wants to show the world how great he is-also hit-and-run actions in North Korea, South China Sea etc. (Allies South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand-but an objective will be to get the Philipines on the side of the west, regain influence in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia).

The idea behind this scenario is that Russia-Iran-China (R.I.C.) can act strong because of weakness from the west. Trump believes the west is stronger and R-I-C know that, they want to avoid major wars-and their coalition is not that strong.

What may go wrong ? Russia and Iran will defend their positions in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan-even the EU-may not want to be pulled in major plans to get Putin back in his"cage".

Russia, China (and other BRICS-nations) believe in a multi-polar world not in a US leadership.

Also such a large scale military scenario is very expensive. Even for the US itself it may be asking to much (corruption and military mix given the hierarchy and amount of money involved).

North Korea may be able to do a lot of damage (EMP-satelites ? Nuclear polution ? Blowing up dams to flood South Korea ?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzsr4yRDSVk Israeli News Live; Ukraine is working on a dirty (nuclear) bomb to use against Crimea, Eastern Ukraine (with western knowledge see also https://twitter.com/m3t4_tr0n ). It would provide Russia with an excuse to move into the Ukraine. For the US Ukraine is very strategic-flying time for missiles towars Moscow from the US is 30 minutes, from Eastern Ukraine the US would be able to strike without (much) time for reaction from Russia (or Iran).

From about 1500 BC to 1200 BC, the Mediterranean region played host to a complex cosmopolitan and globalized world-system. It may have been this very internationalism that contributed to the apocalyptic disaster that ended the Bronze Age. When the end came, the civilized and international world of the Mediterranean regions came to a dramatic halt in a vast area stretching from Greece and Italy in the west to Egypt, Canaan, and Mesopotamia in the east. Large empires and small kingdoms collapsed rapidly. With their end came the world’s first recorded Dark Ages. It was not until centuries later that a new cultural renaissance emerged in Greece and the other affected areas, setting the stage for the evolution of Western society as we know it today. Professor Eric H. Cline of The George Washington University will explore why the Bronze Age came to an end and whether the collapse of those ancient civilizations might hold some warnings for our current society.

Considered for a Pulitzer Prize for his recent book 1177 BC, Dr. Eric H. Cline is Professor of Classics and Anthropology and the current Director of the Capitol Archaeological Institute at The George Washington University. He is a National Geographic Explorer, a Fulbright scholar, an NEH Public Scholar, and an award-winning teacher and author. He has degrees in archaeology and ancient history from Dartmouth, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania; in May 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctoral degree (honoris causa) from Muhlenberg College. Dr. Cline is an active field archaeologist with 30 seasons of excavation and survey experience.

Paul Beckwith recently mentioned that temperature-rise is already going exponential with a rise of 0.6C the last 5 years. https://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=3586 sea-surface-temperatures(SST) going up-means more watervapor-more clouds-more rain-more floodings. Also up till recent 40% of Sea Level Rise (SLR)came from water-expension due to warming. SLR will go up as well. More warmth is more energy, when you start to see yellow here http://cci-reanalyzer.org/wx/fcst/#GFS-025deg.WORLD-CED.WS10 you are watching at superstorms.

Another note, less landice in Greenland, Antarctica means that the landmass under the ice starts moving upward. (Both Greenland an East Antarctica have up to 2 miles/3,2 km land-ice-without the pressure of that ice land would lift 1 kilometer/0,6mile. That lifting would cause earthquakes-in combination with the "normal seismic activity" this would give larger quakes (and tsunami's, wich also could transport heat/cold to regions were it would normaly not go.) http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-24/scientists-warn-coming-california-megaquake-could-plunge-large-portions-state-ocean

Middle East:
https://southfront.org/sdf-entered-strategic-tabqa-air-base-west-of-raqqah/ (DJ; Veterans Today and some other sources claim that since IS has no airforce airfields in Syria may be used by "third parties" for supplies for IS, transporting fighters (from Libya to Syria, from Iraq to Syria)-some "groups" are interested in dividing Syria in a Kurdish, a Sunni and a Shia-part. Airfields may be usefull for that goal.)

Korea:
testsite preparations NK;
Ukraine:
JD The Balakleya munition storage had some large explosions. Israeli News Live did mention earlier the Russian claim that Ukraine was working on a dirty bomb to use against seperatists. VT did mention more often the use of small nuclear weapons (in Iraq 2003, Yemen, Syria and there may be some proof in both images, radiationmeasurements, ground samples (when possible). The reason that the usage of small nuclear weapons is not main news could be that all parties involved would like to denie the story ? It is not unthinkable that Ukraine could have SS-21 missiles from the Soviet Union time.

climate change:

Unlike others, I do NOT expect an Arctic Ice Free Summer this year. We should have 15% of the Winter Ice come October. But with 85% of the ice gone, we should see a massive increase in Methane release. Remember this summer in the northern hemisphere we will start seeing localized temperature peaks at inland sites of 105 to 117 degrees Fahrenheit (DJ 40 to 47 C) within 2000 miles of the Equator give or take a few hundred miles.

As previously stated, THIS WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF WHAT I AM CALLING THE TIME OF TROUBLES.

In 2018 the heating will include another thousand miles to the North.

in 2019 another thousand miles or more. It is coming and we can not stop it. The Arctic Ice will be gone by 2019. Civilization will most likely be gone by 2020 if we do not take action now to cool the planet. We can always hope for volcanic action increase, especially from BIG volcanoes like Mount Pinatubo, as they are the ones to put sulfur into the skies. (Sulfur blocks out the sunlight and thus provides for global cooling.)

Wars:

https://aldinabazovic.wordpress.com/2017/03/27/alleged-us-air-strike-on-tabqa-dam/ The control-techniques are destroyed (by fire started by IS ?) which could mean the dam is not able to fully control waterlevels. If the dam would break it would put Raqqa under water. Northern part of dam under SDF (US) control, southern part still in IS control. (Other sources claim there was no serious damage at the dam-it still functions).

http://warmonitor.net/news/2017/03/27/war-with-north-korea-inches-closer/ In november 1983 the Soviet Union assumed that NATO-exercises were meant as a surprise attack on the Warsawpact and almost attacked NATO themselves. NK may draw wrong conclusions also.http://defconwarningsystem.com/2017/03/25/what-a-korean-war-could-look-like/

DJ, the international community is aware of the dangers an escalation in Korea can bring. There will be more testing, exercises, THAAD etc. So far each escalation brought (indirect) communication on how to react on the event. The number of countries involved stayed limited. Japan and South Korea leave military action on the US. China and Russia would like to have more control on NK. North Korea itself has a clear (but insane ?) leadership.

Another nuclear (underground ?) test in NK is expected the coming week. The test is expected to be much stronger then previous tests. It is not unthinkable that this test could go (very) wrong; fast way-causing a large earthquake (earlier test did cause M5/M5.5 range quakes), The explosion itself is supposed to be in a tunnel-blocked by concrete. But when the blockage blows away what was meant to be an underground nuclear explosion could come above ground-with lots of radiation problems and possibly much widespread damage. In short NK could blow itself up.

A slow way in wich things go wrong is leakage of radiation into water, atmosphere, destabelizing coalmines in the region. It could produce seismic pressure wich could result in an earthquake in the region.

The test itself is already a big problem. Working on missiles and (war)satellites is another problem.

How do you deal with a nuclear armed mad man keeping a country hostage-in wich most of that country follow their leader blindly ? Agression proberbly creates more madness. The Chinese aproach of talking may be the only solution when you want to avoid serious problems. "Limited international action" could be possible when the US, China and Russia would discus it. Taking out NK satellites could be a step. When THAAD indeed is meant to keep NK under control China and Russia may be interested in limiting strike-ability from NK.

Economic "weapons" could maybe convince NK to change its way. Could a de-militarized Korea be united ? Would the US, China, Russia guarantee the safety and neutrality of Korea when that would make the region (and world) more safe ? More weapons destabilize the region further-it is time for good communication with the US, China and Russia and make a plan.

^Thanks, Dutch Josh, great information as always!!

The increase in global temperature is causing the Arctic jet stream to behave strangely, it whips around and dips far into countries of the Northern hemisphere, resulting in the turbulent and unpredictable weather we are encountering.

This is high-level stuff, but it explains it perfectly:

The jet stream, which Mann describes as a "ribbon-like air current that travels eastward … in the lower part of the atmosphere where weather happens," exists because of the difference in air temperatures between the subtropic and subarctic regions.

The eastward-flowing air isn't one completely steady band. Slow-moving waves that travel from north to south often appear across the ribbon of air. It is those particularly large undulations, called Rossby waves, that researchers link with extreme weather, because of the intensely low or high pressure systems they bring with them.

In a warming world, these Rossby waves are getting stuck in one place for a long period of time, Mann and his colleagues say. And this means that a region under the low pressure part of these waves will experience intense, prolonged rainfall resulting in flooding. The regions under the high pressure systems will be stuck with hot, dry conditions conducive to drought and wildfires.

What's making these waves static, or at least slowing them down? Mann points to the warming Arctic. The tropics aren't warming as much as the Arctic, so the temperature gradient from north-to-south is less extreme. As the temperature differences that create the jet stream decline, the jet stream's dynamics change.

Thanks CRS,DrPH,

Syria:

Both Assad as "the opposition" are able and evil enough to use chemical weapons against the population. https://www.rt.com/news/383444-syria-gas-attack-idlib/ While NATO is moving more troops towards Syria https://already-happened.com/2017/04/03/us-ro-ro-ship-liberty-passion-carrying-military-vehicles-is-heading-toward-beirut-lebanon/

DJ: In the past "alternative media" brought news of Turkey and Saudi Arabia preparing to intervene in Syria "against IS". The west claims to "protect human rights" and blames Russia for its intervention in Syria "wich made things worse". IS did sell oil to the west via Kurdish traders, Turkey (Erdogans family). Still the plan seems to be that Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia will intervene in Syria and "to get rid of IS you have to get rid of Assad" http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/20268/US-Ambassador-Haley-the-UN-SC-will-focus-on-Iran-instead-of-Israel With the latest terror attack in Russia https://www.rt.com/news/383486-petersburg-metro-bombing-facts/ Russia will fight even harder against IS terror groups in the world. http://www.veteranstoday.com/2017/04/04/new-york-times-israel-is-provoking-the-next-war/

https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201704061052346294-syria-double-blow/ Turkey is "expanding its borders inside Syria".

In Syria a new offensive is started by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and "russian speaking fighters" https://twitter.com/NeilPHauer/status/849905297460142081. (DJ) Russia, Iran, Syria will increase efforts to gain grounds as much as possible in the short term. NATO forces are already inside Syria; US, French troops in eastern Syria with Kurdish fighters in the Raqqa-region. UK special forces also involved ? Turkish troops are fighting Kurdish groups in northern Syria. Several NATO countries, KSA, Israel have aircraft in the region.

US is preparing large scale troop movements from near Beirut-Lebanon and Aqaba-Jordan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIm98J2czb0 (Israeli News Live) Also in Jordan there are already several thousend US, UK etc troops. US and Turkey are expanding airfields inside Syria.

If Russia accepts this they loose their position in the Middle East. They are proberbly preparing reaction-plans, "red lines" .

http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/20283/Explosions-reported-near-several-Hizballah-positions-in-Syria More or less confirmation of Israeli airstrikes in Syria last night.
(JD) Debka claims Russia is giving Israel (and the US) "room to attack inside Syria" (both Hizbollah and SAA targets. ) I (DJ) think they have it very wrong. Russia has done so much to get its position in Syria, Iran wants to protect shia-muslems and a connection to Lebanon. Russia, Iran, Syria will not allow US/Israel actions when they can stop it.

On http://www.defconwarningsystem.com/phpBB3/ there is a discussion about the possibility of "limited war" between the US and Russia (or Israel and Iran ?). CHinese leader Xi is visiting the US these days. Proberbly that could stop escalations for the moment. Unless North Korea does it nuclear test.

Russia will not accept US taking over Syria. https://already-happened.com/ message 1 US misiles strike Syria, message 2 UK troops in Estonia.

The Pentagon gave Moscow the heads up because they knew what was at stake.

So Moscow decided to back off - in exchange of SOMETHING every one of the key players is mum about.

The Tomahawk show was the Pentagon way of smashing the credibility of the Russian Ministry of Defense – which explained the “chemical attack” was actually the result of the bombing of a secret Jabhat al-Nusra warehouse manufacturing sarin gas.

Now the Russian Ministry of Defense is naked.

There will be a response.

At this time, we are holding at DEFCON 5. We continue to monitor, and are waiting to see what Russia will do.

Although Russia has stated that this represents and escalation, we do not believe that this will be more than a minor incident. We do believe Russia will do something, but may be more on the diplomatic front rather than militarily.

We do not believe there is any cause for undue public concern at this time.

We will continue to monitor and report as necessary throughout the night.

(DJ: The US informed Russia about the coming strikes. Russia had a chance to move their personal from the airfield(s). Pepe Escobar suggests that there was a deal with Russia and for that reason Russia did not shoot down the US cruise misiles.)

From David Wasdell of the  Apollo-Gaia Project;
“It is with the utmost concern that we draw your attention to the fundamental methodological flaw in the determination of the value of Climate Sensitivity that is embedded in the Summary for Policymakers of the Scientific Workgroup of the 5th Assessment Report of the IPCC. The error was replicated in the Reports of Workgroups 2 and 3 and carried forward into the Synthesis Report. It has been used as the given basis for every subsequent publication. Our radical analysis of Climate Dynamics has generated a new and robust value of “Earth System Sensitivity” which has profound implications for:

• The relationship between temperature change and cumulative carbon emissions.
• The calculation of “available carbon budget”.
• The evaluation of the INDCs.
• The terms of reference of COP21 in Paris (30 November – 11 December 2015).
• The future global strategy for climate stabilisation.”

https://robertscribbler.com/2017/04/26/key-heat-trapping-gas-crosses-410-parts-per-million-threshold-highest-level-in-past-5-20-million-years/

These levels now correspond with the Miocene Climate Epoch when seas were 120 to 190 feet higher than today and when global temperatures ranged from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius hotter than preindustrial averages.

Record Rates of Accumulation

These new records come following two years of record rates of atmospheric CO2 accumulation. According to NOAA, carbon dioxide accumulated by 3.03 parts per million during 2015 and by 3.00 parts per million during 2016. These now represent the two fastest rates of carbon dioxide accumulation in the climate record to date. By comparison, the substantial warming at the end of the last ice age was accompanied by an approximate 0.01 part per million per year rate of CO2 increase averaged over 10,000 years.

When taking into account the many elements that are contributing to warming, a potential warming of 10°C (18°F) could take place, leading to rapid mass extinction of many species, including humans.

DJ: Eventhough human CO2 production is slowing down feedbacks are escalating.

The person behind this Zero Hedge article must be blind-thinking climate change is only a matter of CO2. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-04/global-warming-alarmism-goes-11-stephen-hawking-claims-climate-change-could-turn-ear

http://cci-reanalyzer.org/wx/fcst/#GFS-025deg.ARC-LEA.T2 Some parts of Greenland are above melting point.

War:

In the "war for the Middle East" US may move south from Raqqa to get control over the Iraq/Syria, (border) Russia may move east from Palmyra.  https://southfront.org/military-situation-in-syria-on-july-5-2017-map-update/

EU-US relations: https://www.rt.com/op-edge/395270-us-german-relations-trump-russia/ US sanctions for EU companies working with Gazprom do not improve EU-US relations.

DJ: There is a risk that the US will act on its own in South Korea before the G20-top/Putin-Trump meeting coming Friday in Hamburg Germany. This G20-top may result in forming aliences in several conflicts-not solutions. (Most likely the US will use cruisemissiles against several military targets in NK-China and Russia have had all the time to prepare for that-and in trying to "controll the conflict" may shoot most of the US missiles out of the sky (like Russia did in Syria). The messeage for the US will be: 1- Russia and China stand united on NK. 2-No actions on NK without Russia and China from anybody. 3-Russia/China have the capacity to shoot down US missiles-and do so when they think it is needed. 4-For NK the message is also clear; Russia and China can de-escalate but also could give the US the Okay to do "their thing".

Major risks are; misinterpretation by the US-shooting down US missiles is not an attack on the US military. NK could "go wild" were Russia and China may need to do much more-worst case invade NK.

Why would Russia and China react that way ? They want a multi-polar world with not only the US as the only superpower. Russia and China have a lot of reasons to see the US as an enemy; from US support for IS to selling weapons to Taiwan/South China Sea conflict, the trade/sanctions war.

Russia and China are willing-proberbly-to go very far on actions against NK-wich they-as neighbours-consider a big risk. But they want the US to talk with them on equal bases. And also they would like the US to take away THAAD-stop military drills in SK etc. The US is not willing to consider Russia and China as equal. That is the basics of the conflicts.

The G20 at best could provide openings for talks, peace etc. at worst they have failed before they started.)

Korea:

https://southfront.org/trump-plans-pretty-severe-things-retaliation-north-korea/ After blaming China for not doing enough trump comes up with more words. The US may start losing allies when this is the best they can do. Maybe the Trump-Putin meeting tomorrow (Friday) in Hamburg Germany may bring some real solutions. Russia and China are not pleased with the US role in Korea.

Middle East:

http://www.moonofalabama.org/2017/07/the-saudi-qatar-spat-qatar-and-iran-are-winning-while-mbz-and-mbs-lose-face-.html# The US did sell weapons to Saudi Arabia wich gave those weapons to "rebels" fighting Assad in Syria. Also Saudi Arabia used those weapons in Yemen, now even making threats against Qatar-the outcome is that the "saudi royals" are afraid to leave their country fearing a coup.

Watch the methane release in the Arctic and remember that the IPCC has never been right once on any political decision. As a political body, their politics sucks.

Their initial assessment of Methane (a political decision) was that it had a global warming potential of 21 times that of CO2 over 100 years.

They then revised that to 25 times that of CO2 over 100 years.

Recent Figures used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Methane’s Global Warming Potential (GWP) values for each ton of Methane are 34 times more than CO2 when viewed over a 100-year timeframe, and 86 times more over a 20-year timeframe, and 108 over a 10-year time frame.

34 over 100 years.
86 over 20 years
108 over 10 years
??? over 1 year

They do not stipulate what the GWP is for the first year or first five years it is in the atmosphere. They need to but refuse to do so, because the prospect is scary. If you look at the tremendous warming effect in the Arctic as Methane is released from the permafrost and the sea it would appear to be well over 200 but for the time being, we can estimate and just say 200.

The actual GWP value probably varies slightly based on other factors, like temperature, humidity and other gases in the air that offer competition for the same heat energy wavelengths.

The only good news about Methane is that its GWP diminishes over time relative to CO2 because methane stays in the atmosphere for only 10 to 12 years, whereas CO2 lingers for hundreds as long as it is in excess to nature.

If methane is credited with a 200 GWP and there is approximately two ppm of methane in the sky than the CO2 equivalent is up near 800 when the effects of Methane and CO2 (420 ppm) are combined. That is part of the reason why I expect to see far more rapid warming in the coming months.

Satori, maybe it is correct to say that at least Trump is open in his support of fossil fuel. Most other "leaders" claim they want change but do not act to their words. I do not expect miracles from politics-it is-at least for now-up to citizens to change things.

Sharing information, education "at the grassroots" might be the best option for now. Fossil fuel is in power around the globe-citizens can try for smaller ecological footprints.

Satori, when I look at smoking and how not that long ago over 50% of the people smoked-it now has turned into a small group-I am optimistic.

Most people do not have such a large eco-footprint. A small group with a big eco-impact has to change.

Steps are easy, less meat, less driving a car-also saves lots of money ! When it is also becoming the fashion things may change ! (But I do admit that that in itself is not enough. Political change is also needed ! Stupidity is widespread- but pioneers lead the way the flock may follow !)

How Deeply Will Rising Temperatures Cut into Crop Yields?

https://insideclimatenews.org/news/21082017/rising-temperature-agriculture-crop-yields-climate-change-impact

"

A sweeping study examining decades of research says that yields of the globe's most important crops—providing two-thirds of the world's calories—will plummet as temperatures rise.

For every degree Celsius that the Earth warms, corn yields will go down an average of 7.4 percent, according to the study, which focused on the effects of rising temperatures and did not directly examine other influences related to climate change.

Wheat yields similarly will drop by 6 percent on average for every degree Celsius that temperatures rise, rice yields by 3.2 percent, and soybean yields by 3.1 percent, according to the study."

Politics is no fun when reality does not bend for the politicians. https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/11/24/from-an-open-internet-back-to-the-dark-ages-2/ Also in "the free-west" internet-news is getting under political-market-control. The public has to be protected from "fake news" and the politicians decide on what fake-news is.

Of course global warming is "very fake" according to most politicians. Those politicians-paid by "oil-and-arms" at best talk about "controleble climate change" "effecting not us but future generations in 2100".

Arctic-news has been following global warming for years and with knowledge. In their models things are going so far as they expected, calculated. (Not like the IPCC which left out many "uncertain" factors like water vapor, methane etc.). According to Arctic News-based on NASA data- october 2017 did see a global temperature rise of 1,5C since pre-industrial time (=1880 ? 1750 would be more correct but then we would be even more be "out of control"). A.N. expects the 2C above maybe even in 2021.

In their models of accumulating global warming factors we may have 10C+ by 2026. (But of course that is all fake news-trust your politician-they never lie.)

In their models they take in the account that 93,4% of the warming went INTO the ocean. Taking measurements on the surface is a big underestimate. DJ-If indeed global warming is going exponential-sealevelrise will go exponential as well. There are lots of indicators for that from Greenland, Antarctica, Himalaya. It does not realy matter if the 10C+ is in 2026 or 2030. Life will have stopped much earlier.

https://www.facebook.com/JoseBarbaNueva is expecting a "nuclear winter" . With the very limited knowledge I have I do not believe that nuclear winters can safe live on this planet. But it will end all with the push of a few buttons.

Thwaites and Pine Island sprawl across a plain over 150-miles-long, and inland widen to a reserve of ice two-miles-thick that’s about the size of Texas, according to Holthaus, who says there’s no doubt the ice will melt. The question is not if, but how soon. Should the two glaciers collapse, every shoreline and coastal city could be inundated with water, leaving hundreds of millions of climate refugees homeless. And those events could happen in 20 to 50 years – too fast for humans to adapt.

Even based on IPCC-data Dutch Met Office does"not rule out" a sealevelrise of up to 1.8meter by 2100.

IPCC works with models. When you follow https://www.facebook.com/paul.beckwith.9, https://www.facebook.com/JoseBarbaNueva you know there are very serious flaws in the IPCC data. In their models they introduce not existing technology to get CO2 out of the atmosphere, ignore methane and water vapor.

When even with those incomplete data a sealevelrise of almost 2 meters in stead of less than 1 meter is a serious consideration more realistic scenarios (not the "political"IPCC lies) may be closer to "doomsday scenarios".

There is a supervolcano under Antarctic ice. Major seismic activity in polar regions can be expected which will push large chunks of ice into the ocean (causing tsunami's). Those geological events can not be put in models-there is not enough data. But the risks for abrupt events may be far greater than any "politics" is willing to deal with.

(And so much more-indications that climate change is getting faster and more extreme. "Politics" is working for oil companies, military, banks. Only a few countries are willing to see the dangers but those countries may be under the sea within a few years.)

http://arctic-news.blogspot.nl/2017/12/fires-threaten-santa-barbara.html Is this wildfire a "negative feedback" in the climate change process"? Part of http://arctic-news.blogspot.nl/2017/05/abrupt-warming-how-much-and-how-fast.html ?

In this "exponential" model temperatures will get 10C above the pre-industrial level by 2026. When you would have to translate that to sealevel rise you may have to think of "super-exponential"(explosive) models.

In an exponential model https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_growth you get the hockey-stick model. In a given period growth doubles. For example; sealevelrise would be 2mm in year 1, 4mm in year 2, 8mm-year 3, 1,6cm-year4, 3,2-year5 etc. Already very dramatic-only "years" are partly human ideas.

What I think of "super-exponential" model would be double growth but time would halve. So year 1 would be 2mm growth of sealevelrise, but 6 moths later it would be 4mm, to get to 8mm 3 months after that, 1,6 cm only 1,5 months later (cummulative in 1 year and 10,5 months would bring "growth" of 2+4+8+16mm=3cm with another 3,2 cm on its way in just a little more than 3 weeks).

The "Thomas Fire" will destroy wood and give way to a desert. With methane CO2 and other green house gas going up fast the "global ice conditions" are worsening by the hour. Freezing-point is a hard turning point.

https://patternsofmeaning.com/2017/12/19/what-will-it-really-take-to-avoid-collapse/

Along with their warning, the scientists list a dozen or so examples of the kind of actions that could turn humanity’s trajectory around. These include indisputably necessary strategies such as halting the conversion of native habitats into farmland; restoring and rewilding ecologies; phasing out fossil fuel subsidies; and promoting dietary shifts toward plant-based foods. With the future of humanity at stake, why aren’t we already doing these things? What will it really take for our civilization to change course and save itself from destruction?

Ignoring climate breakdown

We can begin to answer that simply by looking at the media’s reception to this warning. With fifteen thousand scientists—including Jane Goodall, E. O. Wilson, and James Hansen—declaring a potential catastrophe at hand, you might think this would make headlines everywhere. Think again. While it led to a few short articles in select publications around the world, with the one commendable exception of CNN, it was virtually ignored by American mainstream media.
