The golden plates are people. Or unborn souls.
One was Jesus. To be brought forth as an offering to satisfy the hunger of everlasting life. ? |

Jesus Christ died and was raised on the third day, the only "God" to overcome death.

So that was my next guess. That the plates are like tablets. And if not Jesus, then someone very special.

The plates were indeed claimed to be like pages or tablets from which The Book of Mormon was translated.
Some interesting facts: Before Joseph Smith became a prophet some thought he was a charletan. He used a device called a seer stone which was a stone with a hole in it. He said he would look through the hole to find buried treasure. Later his account indicates that an angel directed him to use the same stones to translate the plates. Interestingly, after translating the plates from the "Reformed Egyptian" the finished product often included whole passages that were identical to the King James Version of the Bible then in use. Mormon scholars say that this indicates that the similarities are due to the same creator inspiring both versions. Oddly enough the KJV has a few mistranslations and the Creator allowed the same mistranslations that were in the KJV to appear in the Book of Mormon.
