Happy new year everyone. We've woken up here in the South Island of New Zealand on January 1st to a strange smokey haze over the whole island. It's the smoke from the Australian bush fires, even though they are 2000 miles away. The light here is slightly yellow. It's very weird.
Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Despite the hazy air, I wish I was there too.

Happy new year.

Happy New Year from WA

Just waiting for our turn for the fires.....

The bush is like a tinder box here.......

I think I'll be rejoining our volunteer State Emergency Service...

To help back up the Bush fire brigade....

I think we will need all the volunteers we can get.....

Happy New Year.

I wish I could send some of the rain we are having to areas that really need it. Although there was a report in last night's news that after several drier years the ground water table is still too low so I guess we also need more rain!

Happy 20-20

Here in the Netherlands we celebrate the new year with fireworks. It has been problematic for decades with riots and small fires. When there is fog the fireworks increases the fog. At least two people got killed in traffic this "old and new".

Fireworks also most likely started a fire in dumped furnuture in the hall of an appartmentbuilding here in Arnhem. An elevator got stuck-two people died that way.

Behind our central station a dead body was found-yet unknown causes.

Still happy 20-20
