Today I got my 3 month water supply. I purchased the water in 15 litre plastic containers that expire in 2008.

I have a cold storage closet in my basement that I plan on keeping the water in, however, I am not sure whether I need to keep the bottles on shelves, or if I can just put them on the floor - can anybody offer some guidance?

Also, if the water is not needed until after its expiration, can I use a water tablet to make it potable?

Thanks for any advice!!!!

Just make sure the plastic containers are not touching the concrete floor as stuff from the concrete can leach into the water.

I'm saving my used 2L soda bottles for future water storage if needed. There is no need to treat the city waterwhen filling up the containers unless of course it's during a pandemic and the city is not treating the water supply due to chemical shortages.

I do have a case of small bottles of water that I bought that have an expiry date in a couple of months. I just plan to keep that water for non drinking purposes. At the very least it can be used to flush the toilet if city water is shut off.

Place a carpet strip under the containers. That will prevent abrasion while moving.

That water should be fine well past the expiration date. If in doubt, just add some bleach or calcium hypoclorite.
