How much preps do you have?

We Have 12 months supply of food and water. Enough cat food also for our crazy cat. Also lots of paper and work books for my young child to work on. Spare toys she has not seen to bring out and keep her amused.

   Happy Camper, I can already see you and the neighbors lined up hand milking the cows when the electricity goes out. That is what we plan to do. Got to keep the happy campers busy doing something. We thought about buying a couple of milk cows.   ER Doc

I have a family of seven to prepare for, so I have set aside quite a few things. One of the most important items was a generator and gas. My children suffer from asthma and require a nebulizer on occasion.

argyll, I have asthma as does my 10 year old, I decided to go with the car battery and inverter, the inverter can also be hooked up to the car accessory thing to run the nebulizer also. We don't have to use it very often, but I didn't want to be without it at all. I hope that I am not sorry about not getting a generator, I keep going back on forth with it because of the gas storage issue.

I admire all the preps with big hearts, big bank accounts. They will also cook, clean up, nurse the sick, etc.  I am not ready yet to do all that for my free-loaders that will decend.  I only know of one that will carry a share of the load and I informed him he will be expected to defend and help with all the knowledge of medical EMT needed. Everyone needs to make clear it is not a free ride right up front or you are setting up a disaster. What about rules of the house? sanitary rules?? or is it just an open door policy?

My husband & I have about 3 months of food but only 60 days of water. That is the big concern. Not much space left to store more. But,I don't expect the water or elec. to go out within a month of the big bang. Hope not anyway.

i have about the same for food about 9 or 10 weeks worth. as for drinking water about 3 months, and meds. iv'e been working on they are really high, i have 2 months for my mom, 3 months for butch,3 months for my uncle, 1 month for pets, and none for me yet. our main goal is our generator on law lay we still have 30 days to get it out but still owe a couple hundred on it.

Hi, I'm a lurker who's been here for a month or more but just registered this week, so this is my first post.

Hi lion of judah: I love that handle! Welcome and glad you are posting.

At this point in time, we have about a months worth of water and only about a months worth of food, if that. We keep eating our preps and it is unavoidable. It is hard to fight off frustration when I know we are behind in our preps compared to everyone else. (As new members join I will have to remember not to lead them into frustration because they are far behind, lest they give up before they start. I admit to being frustrated now. We have rice and beans etc. but certainly not enough for 2000 cals per day/6 people, for 3 months which is what I think is the bare minimum). Please pray for us. I have asked my brother who is well off, to assist us, but he and his wife think I am nuts to be on this forum and for prepping, same old story. When my mom died he said he didn't want his piddly inheritance that we were counting on for prep money, but in the end he took it anyway and put in a pool. I had spent mine on hearing aids, dentists, doctors etc. thinking that his word was good. I could cry now not so much because of the money but because my brother made this choice. Oh well, it was his to do with as he pleased but now we cannot prep any more.

So many people are going to come to this board too late to do very much, we need to be tender with them.

Nearly upto 9 months now, but running out of space to store much more without it all becoming obvious to any who visit. My daughter was watching me doing inventory the other day and asked "can we start eating this soon?" - what do you say... she's only 7.

For any people just starting out - I started in January putting a little away each week, it DOES build up, just buy things that are on offer, buy the essentials first and then add niceties - concentrate on doing a month at a time, you will get there. And every extra that you put aside means longer without having to brave the queues at Sams/Costco/Asda/Tesco's etc. And it WILL get used sometime, not wasted money.

Don't put off doing what may save your life. I only have a spare £200 per month - about $140 I think, but I did it - you can too.
    
     
    
    

we have 6 months to live somewhat normally.

9 months if we eat normally with counting calories.

12 months bare subsistence.

I guess it all depends on how many calories we eat.  I suspect when the thing hits we will eat based on the 9 months plan, as you never know how long the thing will last.  better to go on a diet and be safe than to be sorry!

Anyone add any new preps lately? 

I have enough that I could stretch to 12 months, depending on when the pandemic started I would have homegrown food most likely before 12 months to add to that. Plus I have goats and cows and access to deer and fish. Hand pump on the well.

We have enough for at least a  year.  We won't be eating huge meals, but we will have enough to get by.  Then we have a supply of garden seeds to replant next year and start over again.  Have probably about 500 jars of canned food and bought lots of extra flats for canning next year.  We have about 80 acres, so if need be we'll turn more into garden.  Also have a huge solar dehydrator that we will use again next summer.We also have a domestic well, so we won't have a problem with water.  Just got the hand pump installed this week.

Plan A is 100 days for 5 people,

Its been a rough month.One thing after another.Im not even going to get started.Im just glad this month is ending.We will have to replace some preps this next month.But it will all work out.

Using up too much of my stuff....ugh.........but glad it is there to use.  Will try repalcing after holidays.

We should have a poll that asks "how much did you have" and "how much is left'!!!!

About a year and a half, but hard to say exactly.  Summer is long and hot here, and I can grow oodles in the garden, and that would stretch out the supplies.  This is for 3 people.  If things got really bad I know of three others that would show up.  Major supplies are in 5 gal buckets with mylar bags, oxygen absorbers, and Gamma lids.  Four wheat, two corn, two beans, two rice, two pasta, one sugar, one salt, and a partridge in a pear tree.  Actually, we have two pear trees and two apple trees.  Mandarin oranges go in this spring.
